Restaurant note. Not sure, but I believe 1 hour decant. Spicy oak, algae, bright young red fruit, vanilla, very young. After 3+ hours red rasberry and black tea. While clearly a really good wine- it needs several more years to approach potential and will last a long time.

Vanilla oak and still a bit closed. Even after an hour it was still just starting to unfurl its wonderful sweet and slightly sour cherry fruits. I suspect this wine needed at least 5 hours of air to do it justice or at least another 5 years in the bottle.

Youthful all around starting with the robe. This has a very long life ahead of it. If you’re drinking this you’ll definitely want to decant. Will improve with more age as the oak is still integrating believe it or not.

Nose: bubble gum, red flower, hints of hawthorn berry, red fruits, herbs, cherry Notes: beautiful flowers and bubble gum nose. Rather balanced and harmonious palate. Coming from a legendary vintage of the 90s I do believe this wine has a long road ahead of it despite its readiness now. Drank after breathing in the bottle for 1 hour. This is certainly a great demonstration of Bonnes Mares and Vogue at the same time, with excellent fragrance yet a solid and muscular structure plus a chewy texture to the wine. Once it passes the 1.5 hours cherry and dark fruit aromas begin to come up. Quite a change of style has appeared and I am pleasantly surprised that the lively and lighter red fruits aroma and palate has evolved into a feast of cool, dark fruits. Although I have no objection that this is an extremely complex and pleasant wine but I would have a bit of reservation on the finesse and elegance of it. Drink: now - 2038 Rating: 92

Fabulous and immediately captivating bouquet of maraschino cherry, tobacco and cocoa. Fine acidity and persistence. Score based on the 4 bottles which showed particularly well. The rest of the case tonight all showing various degree of evolution, decline and stew fruit. All still very drinkable and some even improved and ameliorated with air. 1 was corked.

This bottle was surprisingly primary drank next to the great 1990 Vogue Musigny this had a meaty savoury bouquet and was still so fruit forward. Good potential but just needs a whole lot more cellar time. 92-94

Full body, dark robe. Initially noticeable oak that integrated very nicely after opening and resting in the bottle for about 1.5 hours. Very nice balance of dark fruits and oak with good balance, complexity and finish. Paired beautifully and stood up to a heavily seasoned pulled pork.

Decanted one hour. After another half hour in the glass it’s in full glory. Lovely floral, red fruit and spice on the nose. The wine is nicely balanced with a deft touch of oak. Layers of red and black cherry with herb and truffle accents come through on the palate. The wine has good energy and is still youthful so it should be able to improve further with time.

To me this doesn’t even smell like Pinot Noir, let alone Burgundy, let alone Bonnes Mares. A cough syrupy and lacquered style about this whole thing. Very disappointing given the vintage and vineyard.

Exceptional ...... Drank blind as part of a 3 wine flight and all five of us thought that this was the 2009 Mugnier Clos de la Marachelle. Quite incredible given the difference in age ...... The de Vogue was youthful with an extraordinary nose. It also wasn't as sturdy on the palate as some other tasting notes suggest. We found it refined and, surprisingly, quite pretty. Plenty of time yet - I have one more bottle and will honestly wait a minimum of 5 years.
The joys of tasting blind.....

Vogue Bonnes Mares 1999 sang tonight, the terroir speaks really loudly. Deep and brooding, black and linear that makes people think deep into the wine. The dried herbs and rich structure that is more Morey than Chambolle, none of the wildness of Chambolle. Powerful and deep, still needs another decade of ageing. Stunning wine with great poise. I couldn’t believe that Vogue eliminated 50% of healthy crops in 1999! Showing how abundant the yield was in that vintage. Drink from 2027. (94-96/100)

Comte de Vogue 1999 dinner: The nose already showed that this will be different than all other Chambolle in this line up. More earthy tones, dark fruit. Grippier tannins but rip ones, not drying. A very good wine no doubt but not my favorite tonight.

Drank at Gary Danko. Was opened and decanted 4 hrs prior. Crazy nose. Tobacco cedar box, flowers, fruits, unfathomable complexity. Mouth: so young, already very good. Some tartness, but delicious. Glad we had it decanted. Revisit in 10 years.

Dark ruby in color, still got loads of residual oak and slight candied fruit. As expected very ripe yet with good depth, decanted for another 2 hours the wine toned down a bit but still very primary. Need a lot more time to get rid of the intruding oak.

Stylish nose of brown sugar and creamy fruit. Concentrated, but I thought this lacked depth and was a bit flat. This felt somewhat muddled and manipulated to me, and lacked the purity of material I really seek out in Burgundy. I felt similarly regarding all the Vogue wines of the evening, to differing degrees, though this was the wine that I felt showed off the stylistic issue the most.
In the flight of 3 Vogue BM ('95,'99,'05), this was certainly my least favorite, though from what I remember others at the table preferred this to the '95

Very deep colour. Nose initially closed but opened over 2 hours to reveal masses of blackberries, dark cherry and plums. Some earth and mineral characters follow. Palate rich with that de Vogue gloss : nice austerity balances the palate and provides length. Very fine Burgundy with plenty of life.

Back vintages from three Burgundy producers with Tryffelsvinet (Grappe, Stockholm): Rather powerful nose with ripe cherries, spice, and some animal notes. Full-bodied, palate with ripe cherries, some sweetness of fruit, good acidity, spice, mineral, medium(+) tannins. A wine with good power and fine development, 94 p. Compared to the 1999s from de Vogüé, this shows darker fruit and more spice notes. This is a wine that is both polished and powerful, but that isn't as velvety as the Musigny VV or Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru. As usual, Bonnes Mares shows more of a "standard style" of a high class Côte de Nuits grand cru.

Drank over 4 hours. Big, bold, dense nose of dark fruit, minerals and earth. Iron. Even after of few hours this was tight although some sweet red fruit and spice came out over time, but you could tell it was holding back. Long dense finish. Needs several more years.

Small Pre-Auction Dinner Hosted by Zachys: This took a lot of air to get moving. I've had this wine a few times and the 99 still needs cellar time to come around. Very consistent with the post 90 Vogue BM style. I think there's more wine than the Drouhin here and one should wait for further development. Once again a solid Vogue BM which did not move me.
