1 hour decant. Bricking evident in the glass. Still vibrant aromas and fruit on the palate. Tannins really showed up at about the 2 hour mark - but agree with the others who say that this might not be so good on Day 2. A lush experience - could easily be mistaken for a California cab.

Consistent with prior note, if anything more elegant and succulent than the last bottle. Rich black cherries, hints of grapefruit and blood orange, faint floral notes. Better with a decant. 2 more bottles and will be hard to hold off on them.

In good years the standard Brunello of Casanova di Neri performs like a high end Brunello. Give it 10+ years at a minimum and enjoy. The 2012 should not evolve further, I believe. Will finish my reserves this new 2024.

Earthy, red cherry, medium plus tannin. Earthy, still very fresh, light cinnamon spice. Great with these Alba White Truffles. Very meaty texture (especially next to the 2000 Caparazo).

Clear pale garnet; clean medium plus nose of leather, balsamic, soil, wood and red currant jam; dry; high acidity; high tannins; high alcohol; medium body; medium plus to pronounced flavour intensity; palate is tarter with addition of tar, black licorice, dates and cocoa; long finish; drinking very nicely now but will also be lovely in 5 years; lean and elegant with enticing tertiary notes

The Brunello is in incredible shape. Thankfully I still have a bunch around. Beautiful dark cherry nose with baking herbs on the nose. Some secondary notes coming through as well. The following flavour profiles items leather, oak, tobacco, smoke, pepper, and balsamic. Succulent, smooth and delicious. Excellent vintage.

Drinking wonderfully, needed about an hour in the decanter to fully open up. Ripe fruit, singed blood orange rind, leather, cherry, and that quintessential Tuscan sunshine flavor. Excellent. Will be hard to let the other bottles keep aging considering how well this is drinking, but I think this has legs to go a bit longer.
Exactly what DAWGBYTE says below......very similar bottle with the exception that I decanted it for 90 min and I think it was best then and for another 90 minutes. The nose was quite fragrant, floral and cherry The palate was full of cherry, was very balanced and the mouthfeel was so smooth and crushed velour like. Later in the evening this seemed to fall off a bit and I probably would have given it an 89 then.....in the early going this one drank younger than a '12 to me. Minimal bricking just starting to show up.
I decanted the wine for 2 hours prior to serving. This Brunello had a nice core of cherry, sandalwood and a hint of herbs. The nose seemed to outshine the palate, which leads me to believe this wine is still on the young side. On the palate it was pretty much a one hit wonder with beautiful cherries, red fruit with some herbaceous notes at mid-palate. Medium acidity and fine tannins. The finish didn't last very long.
This wine was enjoyable, but I was expecting more.
Finally reached its performance window. Elegant wine like a great Brunello. Nose and palate evenly beautiful. Just the finish is too short to score even better. Reminds more of a Bordeaux than an Italian.
Decanted and no wait. Soft cherry and a touch of spice. Modest tannins, lean texture and less aromatic than our last bottle. Not sure I see a reason to wait on this one. Tasty now and do not sense significant upside.
With Peter Lahr at home during his visit for wine tasting this weekend. This was a beauty, with very fine fruit in the nose and mouth, redolent with cherry and ripe fruit. Did not need a lot of air to show its stuff. 4-13-17-9: 93/100.

A decent wine overall with medium tannins, medium body, a good finish & decent length. I was not blown away by this wine like I was the last time I had this wine. Better then good. But not quite epic like the last time. Will not be rushing to buy another bottle.

Opened to breathe for 2-3h on Fri pizza night. I'm getting leather, eucaluptus, on the nose. On the palate, cherry, mineral, graphite, tannins and acid. Well balanced, and overkill frankly with pizza.

Nose: barnyard funk, ocean, leather, blackberry Medium bodied After an hour in the glass, tannins lightened and wine tasted markedly yummier with more body & mouthfeel
Very balanced, with a lot of flavors in a smooth rich mouth. At its peak now. Very different from the 2010. Both are excellent now. The 2010 will be good for a longer time I guess.
Pretty fantastic for non Riserva. Exactly what you hope for from Brunello. Fantastic for $50, esp when you consider the 2012 Cerreratalto at auction is $300.

(5/5) - Still fairly opaque ruby with only the slightest hint of traditional oranging at the rim. (14/15) - Fantastic nose without even a real decant just open bottle time poured in a wide based glass. Traditional cherry, tobacco, dew, licorice as well as some more savory baking spices. (13/15) - On the palate a touch acidic at first but this actually fades with air time some and becomes lifting. Good front to back on the palate and even side to side. Cherry, tobacco, still pretty tannic and should continue to age well. (7/10) - Overall this is very good and a great value if found around $50 or so. Great with traditional Italian cuisine or even just a good pizza.
Beautiful cherry notes with a little sour Brett aroma in the background and some red licorice. Has great acid and tannin with long dry finish. A little austere at this time but I like it! Wish I had a dozen more to drink :( Will probably wait 3-5 years to drink the last one.
Going to 93 - on the nose you are getting beeswax - something new from me - on the palette you are back to normal - its cherries, blackberries and black currant - medium tannins and acidity - well integrated - a great wine - happy to go to 93.
Blind tasted. Guessed Italian Sangiovese. Dark with brown hues. High-toned nose, earthy with nail varnish. Spicy with some alcohol bite. Profound and tasty. Plums, prunes. Expansive yet fresh. Very long. Too moreish!!
Needs a 1.5 hour decant to start opening up. Quite a lovely wine. Excellent with tomato based dishes. I expect the Tenuta Nuova and Cerretalto to be 95-97 points.
This is a general comment on the producer. I found myself distracted during tasting but this wine kept recapturing my attention. The quality comes through at every sip and unfolds This is my first experience with the normale white label from this producer, as the tenuta nuova is consistently my favorite Brunello for its high quality. Now I wonder why I haven’t invested more in the normale!

Median garnet. Med intensity on the nose, dry rose pedals, dry herbs, dried mushroom, black tea, meaty, liquorice, fennel seeds.
Dry, high acidity, high tannins, high alcohol, med+ intensity, dried plum, black tea, med+ finish. This wine has a lot of characters of Barolo. The notes is coming through on the nose slowly.
Overall, very good wine. Opened a bit early, tannins are still a bit prominent, will be better in a few years.
This wine is just AMAZING to pair with fennel salami! Tannins desolved with the food and the fennel salami brings out the sweet fruit and umami flavours of the wine. Also, tried it with Lonza which sings out blue cheese characters together. This is how the Italian wine should be consumed!
Opened to breathe with Thanksgiving leftovers. An hour after opening, there were baking spices and vanilla on the nose, on the palate bright red fruit, faint tannins, and acid in the finish which is really helpful with a hearty, salty turkey and stuffing plate. In the early stages, this really shines with food, less exciting by itself as a sipping wine. Three hours after opening, this is a completely different, more sophisticated wine. The nose now evokes dried tobacco and vanilla, the palate has a longer more complex flavor profile, more potting soil, more black pepper too. 92/93
very tight for the first half hour with all the potential waiting to show itself which was gratefully shared over the next few hours blueberry, forest floor cassis and beginning to evolve secondary notes years of life left
Just starting to show age, light rusty orange notes in color with the wine having released a majority but not all of its tannic bite. The wine maintains sum light hints of fruit and is starting to mature and settle. A solid drinker as well as food wine.

The wine is great - I am between 92 and 93 - but will also this time stay at 92 - but clearly 93 was something I thought about - I am just getting more of everything this time - and still so well balanced. Sure we will get to 93 - the wine is still improving.
On my “around the world” tastings I decided to try this Italian Brunello that I had picked up 2 years ago as it was ranked #4 in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 from 2017. With a decant for over an hour this Brunello revealed an amazing mature looking medium garnet colour. To the nose this wine exuded aromas of oak, balsamic & cocoa. On the palate this full bodied Brunello provided complex notes of cocoa, chocolate, balsamic & cherry with a silky smooth finish. This was an epic scoring wine that is certainly on the verge of legendary status that will leave me with a lasting memory that I won’t soon forget.

Another bottle confirmed this wine's breed and quality. More dumb straight from the bottle than before but in an hour loads of interesting aromatics on the nose and palate. A rich herbiness combined with slightly sour cherries with smoke and spices. Lovely.

Deep Ruby red, cassis, plum, vanilla, black cherries, vanilla bean, dark roast coffee, eucalyptus, leather, medium high acidity, full bodied, well integrated tannins long finishing. Pairing with beef
Opened to breathe for an hour. Smooth, mineral and perfumy red fruit and cedar on the nose and palate, some earthiness, acid faint tannins and a clean long finish. Excellent balance with Chinese food tonight. Open for business, this is ready to enjoy! 93/94

Tart but nice. Seems to me to be on the downhill slide. Not exactly the blockbuster the critics predicted, and not as dense or long as I remember from earlier bottles.
Still young but a lovely wine with a lot of upside that you can really pick up on with a bit of coaxing in the glass. Sweet cherries, herbaceous, dark chocolate, blueberry compote. Going to be a very good wine over the next decade.

PnP into gabriel glas. Transparent ruby color without significant bricking. Warm and inviting open nose showing secondary characteristics of leather and iron ore along with spiced cherries and red fruit, even a touch of iodine. Flavors on the palate follow as expected and there is clear evidence of a developed wine here. The body is medium, with concealed alcohol (14.5%) and soft on the palate with present but relaxed tannins - For my taste, it is into the drinking window but still with some gains to be made over the next 3-5 years. I am also someone who thinks that Brunello at this level should be consumed before 15 years time. All in all a delightful showing from this bottle, purchased at retail and moved between several fridges over the past few years.

The colour is clear ruby. Generous nose with the purest aroma of cherries, mixed with spices and some wooden notes. On the palate, the wine is medium bodied with fresh red fruit, a bright and gripping acidity and well integrated tannins. Smooth and delightfully clean and fresh, this will continue to improve for several years to come. The Cerretalto and the Tenuta Nuvova may well be the flagship wines of the estate, but the White Label should not be overlooked. Great qpr.

Lovely Brunello - good straight from opening but did develop over 2 hours. Pale orangey red, cherries and spices on the nose but lots more on the palate - tobacco, spices (nutmeg & clove) with soft mature tannins.
This is really lovely. Acidity is elevated and the structure is firm, but there’s great ripe cherry fruit to smooth everything over. I don’t detect much in the way of secondary notes, but the cherry fruit is really pure and beautiful.

Super beau brunello. RQP ****

Gorgeous pale red in the the glass. Aromas of sour cherry, tar, tobacco, mushroom, aged leather, and tomato paste and with time some vanilla bean. The palate carries fresh acidity and dry medium-high tannins with flavors of cherry, dried strawberry, tobacco and a hint of clove. Excellent with some breathing time better still in a couple years!

I last had this two years ago, and thought the wine was as good as WS advertised: dense, complex, long. But the this recent bottle was just the opposite. Flabby, thin, and relatively tasteless. Part of me suspects the bottle has been damaged (likely by heat), but it may just be not holding up well in the cellar.

91-92pts. Ruby color. Really beautiful nose. Nice Brunello, showing off a lot of attractive red fruit, dried tomato, earth, with medium body and acidity. Decanted for 2 hours and was drinking fine - will be interesting to see this develop more from here.

As others have said this is really drinking very well right now. It might shut down, however, I doubt it. 93 might seem high but I love the purity of fruit and the perfectly balanced tannins. There are notes of strawberries, figs a little balsamic with a nice cedar finish. A whiff of smoke on the nose as well. 93! I wish there were more available!

I can really only repeat what I wrote in my last note - this wine is really drinking well already - clearly staying at 92 - and you are still not getting a lot on the nose - great potential for the future.

A nose of cherry and berries with a palate that followed suit. A nice finish. We drank half the bottle and my cousin finished the other half watching the World Cup. His comments were that is was much better the second day.
Wine was splash decanted and then served 30 minutes later which impacted the score by 1-2 points. Didn't note color. Orange peel (slight), black cherry, cherry, and herbs on nose. Palate was all fruit with little complexity. Medium body, medium acids and medium+ finish. I guessed a young Chianti Riserva from a good producer. 91+/- (should improve with age).

Tuscan Tasting (Trelio, Clovis CA): 90-92+ Much more oak than most of the previous bottles in the line-up. Very nice dried roses and vanilla on the nose. Dark fruit, spice, bigger tannin, fairly heavy alcohol, much more new world in approach. This has plenty of life and will likely improve for quite some time.

Dark in the nose - actually not giving so much - on the palette you get a lot of mature fruit - it is cherries it is blackberries and I think a hint of black currant - medium acuity and tannins - but very well integrated - I think this is a great wine that is drinking well now - but will improve further - I am starting at 92 and have great hopes for the next bottles.

More deep purple color than I'm accustomed to with BdM. Still a baby, but showing really nicely now after 4 hours in the decanter. Lots of flowers on the nose--roses especially, but violets as well. Baking spices are evident as well. The fruit component is more dried than ripe, but it begins to flesh out in the glass. The mid-palate is initially a bit hollow, but also begins to flesh out as time goes by. Plenty of acidity, but I wouldn't call it "juicy"...Tannic structure is what you would expect from a baby Brunello--extremely fine grained and spread across the whole palate. This will benefit greatly from another 3-5+ years.

My 2nd time drinking this; each time after 4 to 6 hours in-the-bottle decant. It has impressed each time! Medium-dark garnet color. Medium to medium-full body and elegant. 2010 is chunky compared to this. Nose of cherry, some raspberry and a whiff of dark balsam note and vanilla. Flavor in the medium-ripe cherry spectrum with faint vanilla and licorice spice. Nice, fresh and smooth with fine round tannin and medium acidity. It went superbly with roast duck! Yum! No hurry though and this can easily go for 10!

Smooth and savory. More fruit and elegant style of Brunello vs the more concentrated and bold style. No rough edges, 1 hour of slow ox drank over 2. Was a really nice match for artisan pizza. Will definitely benefit from more bottle age.

already drinkable with a good decant but has potential in 5 years. Color is dark garnet. Nose is still a bit restrained. Red cherries, flowers, spices and vanille. Tears are medium high. On the palate tannins are still medium high (Still young afterall) a little chalky in the mouth but very round. Alcohol is medium acidicity is medium high. We get a taste of roses, macerated cherries, some tobacco, vanilla and a long finish a little sweet. I can't wait to try another in 2 years. Great wine.

Opened with 4 hour decant plus 1 hour in the glass. Medium to darkish ruby in the glass. The nose is rich and generous - cherry, berries, leather, tobacco, and lovely spicy floral notes - all of which carries over to the palate revealing an exceptional Sangiovese full of cherries, berries, tobacco, with chocolate mocha & spice notes all wrapped in a nicely integrated, smooth mouthfeel and long lingering finish. Still young - another two years+ in the cellar will reward the patient. [SnowBound 2017 event]

LOVE me some Casanova di Neri, been drinking more of the Tenuta then the white label, and looks like the 04 is my last go at the white. This 2012 shows more of a red fruited wine than I remember from these. In fact, kind of reminds me of a riper vintage Burgundy from somewhere like Vosne! There's a gorgeous dusty sandalwood spice in this...some white pepper, tobacco, and exotic wood smoke. The fruit is pure and liqueured with fresh crushed raspberry, cherry, rhubarb, pomegranate...firm structure with super lifted acidity, mineral crunch, and dusty spicy tannins. Lot of exotics in flavors...tobacco, camphor earth, slight tar, leather, dried cherry, licorice...pretty florals...but MAN I can't get over how translucent and kind of feminine(for Brunello) this wine is! Love it! Age should do wonders, but air it out for a couple hours now and enjoy!

Early on seemed far too young to drink. But after it opened up slight tannins came through to offset some of the fruit. Could have sat for several years but wanted to sample the 2012 vintage. Should be good.

Casanova di Neri dinner (Ai Fiori (Langham Hotel on 5th Ave)): Clear step up from the Rosso. This one you can tell is more built for some age. The oak is apparent as well as still that plummy red fruit and some licorice and a bit herbal in nature. It feels not quite together right now, like it needs a few more years for everything to integrate a bit better. Think it will be really good. For many at the tasting this was a favorite and very good from QPR perspective.

Tasting at the Casanova di Neri Vineyard, huge impressive estate of more than 500 ha of which around 60 is vineyards. Beautiful 13th century stone houses. The white label standard Brunello is from vineyard in the eastern part of Montalcino, next to the production facility and home of the di Neri family. Aged in old Slavonian oak. Subtle nose with raspberry, wild strawberry. Slim body with friendly tannins and virile acidity. This needs more bottle time, aeration or both.

Dark garnet in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of dried herb & earthy/dusty notes, minerals, toasty oak & vanilla in the background. Medium-full bodied with a good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & plums with herbs, earthy notes, some cocoa, minerals, toasty oak & vanilla. Lingering finish. Appears to be readily accessible at present with decanting and extending airing but it should develop further with additional aging.

Fremragende brunello. Kraftig smag, men let i strukturen. Nydt over 2 dage.

With Peter Lahr at home during his visit for wine tasting this weekend. This was a beauty, with very fine fruit in the nose and mouth, redolent with cherry and ripe fruit. Did not need a lot of air to show its stuff. 4-13-17-9: 93/100.

Color: Garnet
Nose: Rich plum, black current.
Palate: Light acidity, fresh rich flavors. Raspberry and prune. Not as old tasting as many Brunellos
Body: Medium with balanced acidity. Very well rounded and structured.
Finish: Slightly tannic with a zesty finish.
This bottle could use a few more years to smooth out, but is a very nice bright Brunello at the current time.
Opened up after 3 hours and was delicious. Will be incredible in 3 - 5 years

Great qpr.

A captivating aroma of rose petals, cherry, tobacco and spice. Much the same on the palate and very open after an hour and a half in a decanter. Impressive now and miles to go. Exceptional pairing with the wife's Bolognese pasta. After trying it in a restaurant several weeks ago we loaded up. So glad we did.

already drinkable with a good decant but has potential in 5 years.

Another one of those wines that need to age before really appreciating it. Big tannins with floral notes and specially a tobacco pipe like finish that will be spectacular in another 5 years (2022).

Fresh dark cherry, cedar, dried rosemary, crushed red rock and flower shop. Precise and long, with silky tannins and a savory entry; very androgynous. Still a baby, this will age well and provide years of study. Drink 2020 - 2032.

Dark & brooding nose upon open, palate is med+ and intense. This hits all the notes you want for brunello, and it's showing beautifully out of the gate.

Tasting, brief note. red cherry with sweet spice aromas. Similar flavors with very firm tannins middle forward. 90+ point potential, but this needs at least 5 years in the cellar, more likely a good decade.

Fremragende brunello. Kraftig smag, men let i strukturen. Nydt over 2 dage.
