Good structure and tannins, with a little cassis fruit and leather but overwhelmed by gamey and Bretty notes. It’s volatile too, and needs drinking up. Past its best. CHP 86 pts

Consistent with previous note. Perfect ripeness and lovely balance. This wine doesn’t pretend to compete with a Grand Cru Classé but with its Cru Bourgeois status it more than delivers on all fronts. Just lovely. No hurry with this vintage although it will change in style over the years to come due to further ripening.

Coravin fun - 1995 & 2005 Bordeaux (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Cream, sweet plums over savoury blackcurrant, touch of caramel; polished oak, sweet spice, with a smidge of mocha, a little raspberry note with time. Juicy, creamy, talc textured tannins have a slightly chalky butt, again sweet plum over savoury blackcurrant, non intrusive alcohol warmth . Quite complete for such a relatively entry level wine.

Supper with friends (Chez nous): From magnum. Decanted a couple of hour ahead of drinking. For its modest place in the classification this is classy wine. There is a definite cassis and sandalwood character to the the nose. Tannins resolving beautifully but with time in hand. There's a cracking texture here too. Some smoky tea notes emerge in time.

Fine mid ruby, garnet to rim. Black and red fruits. Good balance, acidity. Tar and ink too. Great lunch time claret. Just lacks concentration and length compared to a classed growth.

Just to add to my note of over a year ago and to say that this is still drinking superbly with life ahead. Excellent fruit, complexity, sweet spice, long and attractive on its own and with duck a l’orange. Great value and always a great buy en primeur. Sadly, this is the last of a dozen. On to the 2009.

Bought 3 cases of this for a song in 2010 in a Belgian supermarket and tucked these away in the cellar to try a bottle every now and then. Still 14 left and this is now superb in terms of balance, fruitiness and ‘Bordeaux-ness’, if you know what I mean. Blackberry and blueberry aromas, hardly any detectable tannins. Lovely perfume. Always a reliable choice in good vintages. Just love it. Agree with Oldcabman that this develops more depth of flavor after a few hours with some air! Goes to show that this wine has the potential to keep on shining in the years to come.

Very good cru bourgeois claret. Fully mature now with some complexity on the palate and the nose. Still a fair amount of fruit. I hope it will stay on this plateau for another year or two, since I have another case in the cellar.

Do yourself a big favor - open this wine, pour it into your favorite glass, and go do something else for a few hours!!! Evolves in the glass, showing slightly candied fruit and integrated tannins. So good with grilled beef!

No detail to add to my last note except to say that it needs at least a couple of hours after opening before it begins to show but is then a very attractive Cru Bourgeois. Drinking well with many years ahead (if stored well). Gorgeous next day - excellent fruit, complexity, sweet spice. Superb. No hurry.

From Coravin. Aromas of black fruits; a combination of brambles, plums and blackcurrant, with earthy elements, sweet spices, a little leather and aniseed, a touch of blood and mint. In the mouth it's juicy and savoury spiced whilst being a little sweetly fruited. There is also an aniseed note here, with a little leathery edge to the surprisingly softly grained tannins. Finishes with a little alcohol warmth. Beginning to show some tertiary but this is possibly a little too young for me.

I can't believe it is 4 years since we last tasted this vintage of Beaumont. As before, it was very approachable soon after opening and showed a very deep colour and a rich, spicy nose. Quite a big wine but restrained, with rich, dark fruit and spice on the palate. The fruit was complex but not 'sweet'. Tannins provided a firm backbone but were nicely integrated and softer than before. It was good with food and opened nicely over a few hours, showing increasing complexity. A sample was retained to see how it survives over a day or so. It was definitely better after 24h showing an intense, spicy nose and a complex, soft palate. Not great claret but very good indeed. I think this is certainly ready but has life ahead. 90+

2 bottles drunk on New Year's Eve. No discernable difference. Both were fully mature with soft tannins and enough fruit. Excellent example of what a top cru bourgeois should be, much better than my Potensac from the same year, but lacking the extra character of a great wine. Glad I have 12 more, but I won't keep them too much longer--perhaps another 2 years before they start to dry out.

Decanted for 2 hours which it needed in my opinion. Very different than my last bottle. Much darker fruit profile, traces of oak. Would never guess this was a 14 year old cru bourgeois, punches above its weight. I would agree with others that it is drinking well but no rush.

Very closed at present, which is very common with most left bank 05s. Stylish and polished blackcurrant fruit, which while on the austere side, definitely shows good concentration and depth. Secondary characteristics are barely evident, needs at least a 2-3 hour decant. Good structure, really captures the spirit of Medoc even if it seems a bit generic.

Pop and pour along with a 2013 Te Mata Coleraine. The Coleraine with a haunting perfume including a nice whack of vanilla oak but such a drinkable wine already. The Beaumont with obvious bricking colour and recognisable Bordeaux nose but also very inviting.
I found the Beaumont has a hint of caramel on the nose. Drinking provides a lot of enjoyment from the medium-full body of dark fruits in a forest setting with slight cedar and smooth tannins.
After some warming up and breathing, this started to shine and showing classy darker fruit with all that Bordeaux tannin and structure. Really good with a chicken sausage and more luscious again after a couple of hours.
A fine Haut Medoc effort which is drinking really well now so I think get into it and enjoy. Excellent QPR from a great Bx year.

Well well well. From my previous bottles, I thought that the fruit was drying out a little. However, a half open bottle left out overnight and placed in the fridge in the morning showed beautifully the second evening. Dark plum fruits emerged from the background and merged with some lovely minerally flavours to provide a much more interesting and successful drink. The upshot of this is that I will leave my remaining bottles well alone for a while longer, or at the very least decant and abuse them the day before! Nice

Dark ruby. Still pretty closed up. Very dark fruits, liquorice and tar spectrum. Plenty structure and good acidity. For me, still needs some time if stored properly.

Tasted on two occasions. First pop and pour along with a 2008 Wynns Black label Cab and a '12 Yarra Valley Cab. Immediately recognisable Bordeaux but subtle and inviting. A good darker colour with age showing some bricking. Dark fruits in a forest setting.
After some warming up and breathing, this started to shine. The Wynns definitely richer sweeter fruit but the Beaumont showing classy darker fruit with all that Bordeaux tannin and structure. Really good with a chicken sausage and more luscious after a couple of hours.
A fine medium bodied effort which is drinking really well now but will clearly also age further.
Second time 2 days later after decanting off into completely full 250ml bottle and sealing. Opened this tonight and its better again. Still that lovely dark fruit and seems a little sweeter, great structure and totally enjoyable with corned beef.
Drink or keep. 90pts easily.

This was good. Nice complex interplay between smokey oak and ripe opulent silky black, red and blue fruits. Ends longish and fresh with good tannin. This is tasty. Can be cellared for a couple of years. Is an 89 on Day two.

Deep dark red fruits and minerals. I would probably - on a good day - suggest this is a right bank wine, because there is a relatively muted appearance by the Cabernet Sauvignon. Tannins are ripe abd there are lots of them. Very delicious.

Fragrant red and black fruits. Floral and slightly autumnal, with fig and spice cake aromas. Plush entry. Admirable depth and juicy acidity in the midpalate. The slighty spicy finish has nice grip. As noted, this is ready to be enjoyed now and over the next few years (89+).
Easy drinking and round textured, the wine is filled with ripe, sweet, juicy plums and black cherries, with an earthy, forest and tobacco note to make it even better. There is no reason to hold this any longer.

Medium/deep ruby/garnet core, pale garnet rim. Nose is quite developed, with cedar blackcurrant fruit, smoke, touch of mulchy undergrowth, spice. Medium/full bodied, attractive dark cedar fruit, quite soft across the mid-palate, quite rich too but there is good offsetting acidity, notes of earth, and a very good length finish with vanilla notes and a few dusty tannins at the tail end. This is completely delicious and drinking quite well, although I suspect it will go for another 10 years.

Hmm, seems more like a 2003 (over-ripe vintage) than a 2005 claret. Warm, with dry bitter tannins. That said, it's better than many of the over-hyped "sleeper of the vintage" cheap Bordeaux from 2005.
Drink now.

Still drinking very well ... which is good, because I have three more bottles to get through. :-) I'll probably try to do so in the first half of next year. Really agree with the comment, "Silky with a dusty palate."

My penultimate bottle from a case of 12. Now fully mature, but still showing good levels of blackcurrant fruit. Silky with a dusty palate. A good wine, but must surely be in its later stages of life, I shall drink my last bottle soon.

We have enjoyed the odd bottle since 2013 but thought it might be getting closer to maturity after 10 years. Decanted - very approachable from the off but left for 5 hours. Deep colour, great legs, rich nose developed in the glass over time with spice incl. cinnamon. On the palate - spice, rich dark berries, damson, maraschino cherries, ice cream, toffee towards the end. Still some dusty tannins but these were nicely integrated. Very long - the fruit and spice persisted in the mouth. Lovely wine. Bought en primeur for £8.60 ($13) incl. taxes and stored by importer until 2012. A superb bargain. We still have over half a case and I expect it to drink well for some years, yet. Note: the wine handled roast pork with stuffing etc. superbly. Very pleased with this wine which performed beyond expectations.

Starting to enter its drinking window in my opinion. Decanted 3 hours since it was completely shut down on opening. High toned red fruit on the nose. Similar profile on the palate with cherry and cranberry dominating. Nice acidity to keep it fresh. Tannins still noticeable but not detracting from the wine. I will keep my last bottle for another couple of years.

Decent claret, I drank a bottle previously which was rather light weight and green. It now feels like it is entering it's drinking window. Decent fruit, smooth enough, a light tang of green in the aftertaste though and you might smack it's bottom for being a little hollow on the mid palate. At the moment though it's not a patch on the 04'

A good Bdx, a bit rustic perhaps. First night, plenty earthy fruits, some redcurrant, bit of blackcurrant. Fine acidity. Medium length. Second night a bit less red fruits, the tannins a bit coarser and more obvious. Plenty structure here. I'd leave off for a while and try again.

Popped and poured, consumed over 6 hours. Nose: Medium expressiveness, dark flowers - violets, earth, and a little stink - barnyard. Palate: Medium bodied, subtle blue fruit attack, good acidity, ghostly mid-palate - where did it go?, a little spice driven back-end kick. Finish: Short sense of tart dark fruit and spice. My last of 3 bottles, the last consumed 5 years ago, this has evolved very little since then.

The first bottle of 5 dozen. Very disappointing indeed. Overripe and over extracted. At first, chocolate and stewed plums. Muddled and not particularly pleasant. I don't think it will improve. Will try another bottle or two but I think it's one to sell. Another casualty of the Parker influence? Such a pity, the 2000 was terrific quality for the money. Got quite a bit of the 09 too, I wonder if that's as bad as this too.
Tasted back to back with Beaumont 2008. This is the better wine and drinking beautifully right now. As per earlier reviews great VFM and great 'intro' to Bordeaux.

I have not liked most all the Bordeaux wines I have consumed, although relative to other wines I haven't many of them and none have been high on the classification list. But I bought a case of 2005s to give them a try as the folks at K&L (and many other places) raved about them. Well, now after a few years of aging I can now say that I'm a fan. Although not from a top-notch chateau, this wine has the fruit of a mellow CA Cab yet the complexity and "good funk" that I was looking for.
Nothing earth-shattering about it, but an exceptionally great value as my local Trader Joe's is clearing out their stock @ $14.99 a bottle. It's just a well-balanced Bordeaux with plenty of flavor ... I'll be picking up several more before they're all gone.

Pnp on Day 1 the rest of the bottle consumed on Day2 with the cork replaced after Day1.
This was a very nice wine on Day 2, it was totally smooth and balanced for taste, tannin and acid, nothing out of place. You could drink this on its own and find it totally enjoyable. On the nose the fruit (blackberries, plums) floated out of the glass with a little vanilla. With taste, more blackberries and plums, some leather and vanilla. This was a fuller more dense package having gained some weight overnight. The alcohol and some dusty tannin was not around, like it was on day 1, today it was a total wine, just nice even with tomato soup, bread and cheese. I compared this wine to some $85 wines I had tasted over the weekend and this was not that far behind it.

Popped and sat for hour or so which softened it a little. A nice wine that is unmistakably bordeaux but not much complexity. As a $14 everyday bordeaux, this is a winner.

Very enjoyable. Smell is just pure left bank. Lovely rich fruit and a little spice and mint. Nose is 92+. The mouth however is a little short. Attack is great, with plenty of blackberry and meat, but the mid palette just doesn't compare. The finish however, is very interesting. Deeper meatiness kicks in which transforms to smoked bacon after 30 seconds+. Really surprised to taste this in a wine!

Aired in a decanter for 2hr and drunk with Cheese and Baguette
Improved some from 18 months ago, the aromas were quite pronounced of Sweet Cherries, Plums, spice and a little oak. This light to medium bodied wine is developing well exhibiting Red cherries, some vanilla, some alcohol in tandem with very fine smooth tannins and lifted acid, none of the components are overwhelming. It has come together very well. In fact it has a finesse and elegance about it. This wine is certainly not over the top or in your face.

Oak, barnyard, blackcurrant, coffee, vanilla nose. Soft and rounded, fruit-oriented taste that sadly lacks structure in the way of acids and tannins. A quite anonymous and boring bordeaux, with a somewhat spoofulated feel to it. Is this really an 05? The future certainly doesn't look bright. Four tasters/drinkers agree. Rest of the bottle goes to cooking.

A very nice old school Bordeaux that seems to have reached its optimum drinking window; soft tannins, dark berry fruit, tobacco, well integrated oak and a hint of bitterness on the finish. Spice, leather, pure dark fruits, oak and earth on the nose. The palate is focused, juicy and superbly structured. This is classic Bordeaux at a competitive price. You can really taste the quality of the fruit here. Great acid, the tannins have softened beautifully and have left behind a surprising silkiness. This has a few years of life ahead of it but is drinking absolutely beautifully now. I should have bought more of this stuff!

Very slightly evolved nose that still has some ripe red fruits aromas with some mint complement the round, soft tanins leading to a nice long finish. This wine is some kind of miracle from the 2005 vintage. On the second day the wine was developing dark chocolate/coffee aromas and flavors. My friend thought it was a 25 dollars wine though I bought it at 10$ two years ago.

Ripe black fruits, cocoa powder, graphite, marzipan, flowers, & a tinge of spice, framed by a nice balance of acidity and cedary tannin. Fills out and becomes more serious (in a good way). Drinking quite nicely at this young age, with still some room to grow. (Now-2019) (88-90pts).

This is an entry level claret's older, darker, jockier brother...Maurice Claret. Still hiding a bit in its shell (should show better in 12 months) this tends to be dense and clumsy up front and fall off a bit in the middle. The finish is really sly, sneaking and creeping, and the coconut vanilla creme cassis is the star here. Little chalk, fairly impressive length.

I really like this wine. It's not flash but a good solid claret with pleasant structure and fine grained ripe tannins. Not the fruitiest wine, but that's not what i'm looking for from it. Perfect for mid week suppers.

Color Dark Red, nose quite muted, but there were hints of licorice, plums and cherries. The palate was light bodied with some sense of fruits, smooth tannin and some hints of acidity, good balance. There was a slight sensation of oak on the back of the throat, but this was negated if the wine was drunk with food. Overall a very nice wine to have with lunch or dinner, very enjoyable. Great QPR. Typical Bordeaux qualities. It took a hit in my points department for a mid palate that is a bit thin, and some bitter tannins. These persisted on day 2 and it lost some body. It was better on day 1 with decanting. So contrary to notes below, I'm not sure this will get any better with age.

Attractive old world nose, barnyard, cedar, fruits and caramel. This is reflected nicely on the palate that leaves a relatively sweet impression for a bordeaux. Very tasty, smooth and interesting. Poured straight out of the bottle (and sipped at the social gathering, so no real notes) decanting would likely help.

Popped 1 hour before first pour and consumed over 5 hours. Nose: Initially tight, dark fruit, black pepper and with a good swirl some floral scents. After a few hours the floral scents - violets come to the forefront and some barnyard stink shows. Based upon the nose alone this is a 90+ wine. Palate: Medium bodied, heavy tannins, black pepper, with little fruit showing - pretty consistent over entire consumption period. Finish: Short and tart. Still potential for this to come into balance - just not there yet.

One of the good QPR wines for Bordeaux 2005. Balanced, with aromas of cassis, pencil shavings, leather, and spices. On the palate there is abundant fruit but in a cool, restrained style. Quite mature to be a 2005, this wine is very good for its price point. Avoid aeration in a decanter, as it develops nicely in the glass. From now until 2016.

Dark purple. Pretty floral aroma with some dark fruit mixed in. Medium to full bodied mouthfeel with a creaminess coming through and lots of currant and minerality. Still somewhat muted and in an awkward phase. Ends evenly and in balance. Much better on day 2. Hold off a few years if you can. Score will also improve with more time.

Double decanted. The wine tasted dumb, as if it had been stunned--lifeless. Two days in the fridge, clean fruit with a little olive and earth. @$14, an awesome value

Dark crimson. Sweet oak and black fruit on the nose. This wine has a good structure and quite a polished style but there is weight underneath it all. Long juicy fruit and sweetness on the palate, plenty of cassis and mint. And an appealingly ripe and grippy finish too. This will be lovely given time! 13.5% alc.

Un peu déçu d'avoir bu cette bouteille aussi jeune car je crois que ce vin sera à son meilleur dans quelques années. Pour l'instant, un passage en carafe est nécessaire afin de l'apprécier.

Drank this one year ago. Fruit has become more forward, still has some earth and tobacco. Tannins have rounded off a bit but still a little gritty. FInishes off with some wood. Overall it's evolving and a pretty decent wine and worth the $16. Drink now or hold

Drank a day after opening. Agree with the new worldy characteristics: immediate jammy sweet fruit with some vanilla on the nose, that faded; but with the acidity that makes it unquestionably bordeaux, still with strong but not overpowering tannins, suggest it will get better over the next couple of years. Medium length. Good value for money Bordeaux and noticeably better than the underpowered 2002 vintage.

Bordeaux 2005 and 2006 Tasting; 10/22/2009-10/26/2009 (Wine For Asia Singapore Suntec): Standardish bordeaux nose but this has gotta be the most all-rounded palate tasted among the 05s. This is suprisingly complete on the palate with nice firm tannins , lots of fruits (blueberries in particular), fresh stony acidity, some secondary savory undertones and unintruding structure. 83-85pts

WFA Bordeaux 2005/2006 Tasting by the Wine Review (Suntec Convention Centre, Singapore): Not bad. Sweet ice-cream soda nose, tobacco and some violet flowers. Rather new worldly. Palate had touched of meat and some plushy round fruit. All partially obscured by a robe of teeth-staining tannins at this point. Finish showed a woody touch and some flinty stones. Interesting - this needs time, but should make a very decent Haut Medoc.

Popped and poured. A mouthful of fruit (but not sweet and jammy). After about an hour in the bottle the fruit fades a bit and the Bordeaux terroir then pushes through. It's still mostly in the background but this was quite enjoyable and a great value. Good to drink now and should get better over 2-3 years. Doesn't have the backbone for long-term aging but should be nice through 2015.

Color: On the lighter side of red/purple for Bordeaux. Nose: Alive and distinctively Merlot. Black tea and so much black cherry that it's almost Pinot-like. Flavor: Red fruits, graphite, cedar box, good midpalate, nice finish. Light-medium tannin structure. Easy-drinking with good overall structure for the price.

Popped and Poured. Nose: Great nose dominated by lush, ripe dark fruits like black currants. Flavor: oak and what I'm going to call vanilla bean (not sweet vanilla) sitting on top of the fruit structure. This wine is full bodied from front to back, with huge clay notes arriving about half way through and staying through the finish. The vanilla bean is all over the finish and the reflux. A solid wine.

Decanted 1 hour. Earthy nose, with some blueberry and a little cinnamon spice. Full body, thick, very earthy flavors, hints of black cherry, with a tar finish which is not very pleasant at this time. Harsh tannins and high acidity, rough stringent mouthfeel, slightly greenish. Aclohol is also dominant. This wine is just too young. Same tastes after 3 hours open. I'd wait to drink this as it has potential or decant for several hours or drink with food. I'll score this wine when I drink my other bottles.

From the same company which owns Beychevelle, this wine is probably the best effort ever in 2005, and also a bargain : fruit-infused freshness and a pleasant medium body not without seriousness for some aging make this a rare bargain for hunters of good but not super high quality Bordeaux.

Nose: Outstanding, at first bursting with fruit, mostly black with a little red showing through. Then the oak comes through with vanilla and smokiness. Palate: The battle begins between the fruit, oak, and tannins. At this stage the tannins win. Consumed over 5 hours with the tannins overshadowing throughout. There will be a window where the fruit, oak, and tannins balance out. Definite potential for 90+ points when this wine comes into balance. But when, 2 years, 4 years, or more?

Decanted 30 minutes. Dark ruby color. Fruit on nose. Smooth mouth fee. Blueberry, cherry and coffee on the palate. I find the coffee to be characteristic of merlot in toasted oak barrels, but I do not know the blend here. Tanins there but not fierce. Smooth mouth feel. Medium finish. Bottle says 12.5% ABV but I would have guessed more from the nose but not the palate. This is at the line between very good and excellent.

A fantastic value of a wine! nose of cassis, medicinal tape and black cherry, the palate showed striking acidity and harsh bitter tannins that settled after 5+ hours of decanting. I imagine that this will be amazing in 3-5 years time.

Rubied, whilst dark pleasingly not opaque; correct claretty nose, distinctly blackcurrantish, some (obtrusive) oak providing impact; has tannins a plenty but interwoven with damson fruit. Dense, extended finishes shows the real potential. Positively demands food currently.

Red and black berry flavors blended well with toasty oak and smoke. Thick chewy tannins that, while not overpowering, were a little all over the place. This wine lacked any finesse or depth. Not bad for the price, but I have had better 2005's for similar prices.

NOSE: Day 1: earthy; bitter chocolate. Day 2: a bit more expressive today: still earthy, now with a strong streak of tar; hints of ripe dark berries and raspberry; this wine presents a singular NOSE of elements one would expect in a typical Bdx.
BODY: clear; purple-tinged garnet color; medium body (gains some weight by Day 2).
TASTE: Day 1: not much there: minerally and watery feeling finish. Day 2: flavors have taken ahold a bit more than on Day 1, but this still has a watery finish; this wine is not very well balanced, as there's not enough tannin to counterbalance the acidity; leather; earthy; bitter, short finish.
This is a decent wine, but surely not worth the $17 I paid for it. The Bordeaux QPR train should not make a stop here...just keep on going.

Another bottle from my mate's cellar.

Nice

Will try another bottle or two but I think it's one to sell. Another casualty of the Parker influence? Such a pity, the 2000 was terrific quality for the money.

Decanted 2 hrs. Soft, nicely balanced and with a nice vein of fruit but very restrained. Nice acid balance as well. Beaumont is often an excellent value Bordeaux and this '05 certainly doesn't buck that trend.

Lots of rich black fruit, but tannins have not softened sufficiently to make this drinkable. Wait 3-5 yrs.

Excellent value. Good nose, some fruit. Wine opens up considerably after about 30-40 minutes. Will buy a case smply because of the QPR.

Half bottle. Fairly new world, uninteresting wine. Quite phenolic, chocolate, slightly roasted flavors. Quite full in mouth but flabby. Not interested in having this again.

Color: red. Nose: strong. Nice. Inky. Black currant and cassis with vanilla. Flavor: Just beautiful body, depth, elegance and balance. Finishes with vanilla, currant and cassis. A wow wine, and a standout at this price point.

Tight nose that reveals toast and some red and black fruit after a couple of hours of decanting. On the palate there is forest floor, berries and some vegetal qualities. Tannins mellow out after a couple of hours.

Red and black berry flavors blended well with toasty oak and smoke. Thick chewy tannins that, while not overpowering, were a little all over the place. This wine lacked any finesse or depth. Not bad for the price, but I have had better 2005's for similar prices.

51% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot

BORDEAUX 2005 / Cabernet rules; 4/5/2006-4/10/2006 (Bordeaux): A lush nose of blueberry jam! Palate is also very inviting and shares smoothness of the two previous entries though a tad dry on the back end and a shorter finish. 89- 90
