Nose is blue fruited with some notes of leather, subtle note of a well aged bourbon (oak, vanilla, caramel) in the background. Viscous in the mouth with kaleidoscope of spice (pepper, herb, barrel) on the palate complimented with dark fruits, coffee, dark chocolate. Still retains some acid for freshness with a persistent finish.

First of two bottles obtained direct from Bedrock this fall. I disagree with the recent comments that this is past prime and question storage/provenance of those bottles.
Just starting to show some secondary characteristics. Black currant, dried blackberry, orange rind, mocha, and wet soil on the nose. Perfectly integrated tannins, fresh acidity, and a nice concentration of flavors of black fruits, garrigue, dried smoky herbs, and a touch of citrus peel I get as a signature note from the Bedrock Vineyard Heritage wines. The wine has some body and weight to it on the palate, but isn’t heavy or jammy.
Will probably wait a few more years to open the next bottle, but this is in a nice spot with a little air. Paired well with homemade teriyaki meatballs.

Dark fruit, garrigue, Mediterranean spice and ripe stems create a wonderful mixed black accented Zinfandel. There are no hard edges here. Time in the bottle has softened the sometimes abrasive acidity that one can find in a Bedrock Zinfandel. This is in a great drinking window. Good juice.

No formal note. With the caveat I never tasted this wine when it was younger, I think for my taste this bottle was slightly over the hill. The nose had a beautiful perfume - genuinely gorgeous - but the palate was a bit flat, with insufficient acidity and only mellow fruit. Could be an awkward adolescence and the wine improves when it has a chance for tertiary development, but right now this did not do a ton for me.

Nose of chocolate, stewed cherries, a bit of sweet spices, star anise, and some tobacco. Drinking in a great spot, just enough acidity, resolved tannins, and a nice balance of flavors. Palate of plums, sour dark cherries, blackberries, and bitter herbs. Long finish with many layers - starts off fruity, then turns to black tea, tobacco leaf, and mineral. At the end I get a bit of spearmint and flower pedals.
I am starting to think I like Bedrock wines on the younger side. This is good but lacks the tension that I like when they are young.

Subsequent notes on this wine from 6 years ago. Dark reddish-purple in color with no signs of aging. Full, forward, & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of lavender, earthy/dusty & sous bois notes, baking spices, mint, anise, dark cocoa, minerals & a slight hint of cedar in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, lush, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with spices, herbs, minerals & dark cocoa. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing. Even at 8 years of age, it still has potential to develop further with additional aging.

Beautiful floral nose of red cherry bright fruit, anise, baking spices jumps out of the glass. The red fruit is balanced by the anise, baking spices, good acidity and soft tannins. While smooth and very tasty it’s not jammy. This drank excellent for our palate after an hour in the decanter.

To me, Bedrock zin blends often seem a little rustic (not necessarily a bad thing), but this one was downright elegant. A seriously floral nose (with berries, of course). On the palate, it was surprisingly light, but surprisingly complex - reminded me of a Carlisle "Two Acres". Really good finish and - at least for now - beautiful balance. Not a fruitbomb and not at all sweet or port-like. Yowza!

Serious stuff. Wild flowers, red cherry and a whiff of alcohol on the nose. Palate comes across square in between primary and fully resolved - tannins and acidity shine through nicely but are not harsh. Guessing this won't be in its prime for another few years but sill quite enjoyable now.

Very good and bold wine. None of the jamminess you except from a zin blend. It is definitely drink now as it has lost some of its fruit that made it great 2-3 years ago

PNP. Muted nose, dark fruit, blackberry, raspberry on the palate, fruit forward but still restrained, allowing nice minerality to come though on the finish. Quite elegant, medium body, structured and fresh. I enjoyed this more contemplative field blend.

For a Zin blend, quite elegant and refined. Consumed over two days. No drop off on second day. Bright fruit and plenty of earthy elements behind it. Such balance. This could pass as a southern Rhone blend if served blind.

Last had this vintage nearly a year ago. In December of 2019, we really enjoyed this wine. Tonight, not so much. It felt disjointed, as though it could not figure out what it was supposed to be. A year ago, it was very interesting. Tonight, not so much. Maybe an off bottle.

Last minute grab from the cellar, so didn't decant as I would usually do. But this turned out to be wide open from PnP, and is drinking great right now. There's that citrusy, blood orange note that seems like a signature of the vineyard, and some feral/rare steak/beef blood thing going on too. On the palate it's all red fruits - raspberries, cherries. Delicious. This is a big wine that is somehow still charmingly light on its feet, and is all too crushable.

Cool and vertical, yet unbridled American with a good core of sweetness. Cassis galore here, tobacco, very sound, well build. Still young. #Kandestederne

Vertical Tasting in July of 14, 15, 16. Of the three, preferred the 16 - still fresh. 15 is on the edge (caveat that this wine was stored at 65 degrees, not 55). Medium Garnet, medium meniscus. This is drinking well now. Most raspberry of the bunch, with cherry and some darker fruits mixed in. More vibrant than the 15 in nose, with some herbaceous, floral and smoked meat aromas. Balanced on the palate, this should last several more years but is drinking well now.

Aroma is a lovely combo of lavender, saucisson, black licorice, black fruit, herbs, and a touch of smoke. Palate is heady and rich, with a relatively short finish with a nice touch of salinity. Ready to drink as far as the structure is concerned. Very satisfying release of this wine

Wonderfully perfumed with strawberry, cherry, blackberry. Savory herbs and rhubarb. Tannins are silky smooth. This is ready to go! A true California Gran Cru vineyard from the 1880s.

Opaque purple color with perfumed and inviting black and red fruit, lavender, smoked meat, spice aromas. One the palate it full-bodied and structure with ample fruit flavors of black cherry black raspberry liqueur, red currant, red licorice, spice flavors beautifully wrapped around very energetic acidity and velvety well integrated tannins with a very satisfying finish. Field blend of 24 varieties planted between 1888 and 1895. It’s dominated by 55% Zinfandel and 30% Carignane

Very good. Such an interesting flavor profile. It did not strike us as one specific varietal. It truly reflects its mixed grade heritage. Decanted for 2+ hours; drank over the next 2 hours. There is a floral essence in the nose. Maybe lavender? The palette has all kinds of things going on. There are red fruits and blue fruits. There is a slight dustiness along with a zing of bright cherries. So many lucious things! I found this to be a wine that causes one to reflect, to think, to ponder. It did not smack us in the face; it invited us to slow down and enjoy. So good!

Wood smoke, rich purple fruit, savory spice and expressive nose. Oh wow on the palate. This is big, structured and rich, but not over done in the least. Full body. Black licorice. Spicy. Black cherry. Firm young blackberry. Floral. It's all amazing but then the finish could be stronger/longer. Still a good bottle of wine here.
Post the 1-2 hour decant, nose also features coffee grounds. So alive with great energy on the initial attack. So incredibly balanced, smooth, yet still interesting and not in the least bit dull. They could charge 2-3x this and it'd still be worth it (but please don't).

2011-- Complex, spicy Côte Rotie nose, dark fruits, mint, and licorice, dried cherry and fig, cocoa, lightly oaked. Good acidity in the mouth with a Big Bang, expanding intensity effect, medium long finish, a bit hot and baked at the end. Tannins are Bordeaux-like but moderate and tamed. I did not decant but recommend decanting for an hour at least. 92-93
2012 -- This is almost identical in profile to the 2011 but gets there more effortlessly. The dark berry, fruity, minty aromas are fresher. Easygoing and generous with a Napa Cab sensuality to it. Slightly more forward and minty, smoother, and weightier in the mouth, with a nice, refined dark chocolate finish. Double decanted. 94
2014 -- This needs another one to four years and was like drinking a great Syrah or Cab too early. The tannins are rich with a pronounced edge (but not fierce by any means). Bold notes of cedar, blackberry, cassis and licorice, with clove and cardamom. Tremendous sense of spice, substance, and extract, integrated well enough, albeit still en route to a more elegant expression. Double decanted 4 hours. 92-95
2016 -- One can taste the refined and complex 2011 lurking inside this lively animal, bursting with rich aromas and flavors. Like the 2014 there is loads of fruit and spice, but it already seems better integrated than the 2014. Still wait a few years. Double decanted 4 hours. 93-94
The 2012, 2014, and 2016 all seem built for 10 years. The 2011 seems in a peak drinking window now.

The nose on this puts a smile on my face. I don't think I can do it justice in describing this. Blackberry, black cherry, black raspberry, strawberry jam, lavender and other herbs, a hint of chocolate, coffee, hints of the beach, spices, earth, and so on. Blackberry, tart and sweet cherry, earth, herbs, spice, some vanilla, and a little brine on the palate. Bright acidity, somewhat grippy tannins, longish finish. Really fun wine. Complex but also tasty. Fairly accessible, but I would wait a few years.

There's something missing from this. It's full-bodied, but tart and briny, with little fruit. I don't think it's a corked or flawed bottle; after some reflection, I think that a fair portion of the grapes were unripe when harvested.
We drink a lot of Bedrock wines (because we have a generous stock of them), but frankly I think the community overrates Bedrock wines. We followed this bottle with an Italian bottle which cost half as much, and was twice the wine.

Looking back at my note from 18 mos ago, the wine has really evolved. Dark fruit has moved to the foreground. But still not in a place of balance. Have the sense that this will continue to integrate for a few more years at least. It was interesting to note one common thread in the wine - that intoxicating orange liqueur nose which is still there, undiminished.

Pop and pour and tasted over the course of two days, after putting the bottle, about 1/3 full, into the refrigerator. Enjoyed with food. Dark purple color. Nose of black fruits and some violet notes. 14.6% abv. Dark purple-ruby, expressive aromas. On the palate, blueberry, coffee, tobacco and spice. Very deep, long, balanced and complex. There is alot here, and this wine will pay dividends to those with patience. I’d say give it at least 3 more years.

Cocoa, red fruit, and herbs on the nose. These and blue fruit all carry to the palate. Finish is a hair shorter than I'd like but I honestly didn't notice it until the second glass because everything else was so well structured and balanced. Needed about 30 minutes to open up. This has a nice life ahead of it and should continue to improve.

very tight, dark, inky and a bit rough on first taste. Nose is similar in that is has that tight, musky, unresolved smell. 2nd day. vacu-sealed in fridge. Nose is blackberries, kirsch liquor. Taste is more harmonious. acidity is nice. still unresolved in that it leaves too powerful a taste of bitter dark "stuff" that will unfurl into more complexity. I will try again on 3rd day, but would let these sleep until 2022 before opening again. Day 3. Continual integration. No signs of decline or loss of intensity. On the contrary, the wine is finally in balance. It is still somewhat of a large scaled wine, and at times, the intensity can leave a tannic and concentrated finish on the palate. but I am finding this most enjoyable.

Exceptional california field blend. I wonder what I would think of this blind (I am pretty sure I would be very confused as I usually am). Just delicious stuff. Dark red in color. And ark red fruits on the nose with herbs and spices. In the mouth ripe red and blue fruits, sweet silky cocoa blueberries and spice. Good acidity balances out this hefty alcoholic wine making it pretty elegant and graceful. Kind of like a very good amateur 200lb hairy male ballet dancer (I've got one in my family).

The nose was dark with a mix of sweet herbs and spice, giving way to ripe wild berries, plum, vanilla and crushed espresso bean. On the palate, I found dense, silky textures with ripe red and blue fruits, sweet spice ,cocoa and juicy, mouthwatering acidity. The balance and contrast of concentrated fruit, vibrant acidity and textural heft was simply stunning. It finished on intense wild berry fruit and sweet herbal tones.
* This was opened at 3pm and showed it's best after four hours in bottle.
Deep, dark reddish-purple in color, bordering on opaque. Full, forward, & attractive nose of youthful & intense, ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of floral, briary & earthy notes, spice notes of cloves, herbs, dark cocoa, minerals & a hint of cedar in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced, & smooth textured, youthful, dense & lush, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & blueberries with spices, herbs, minerals & dark cocoa. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but has the ripe fruit & dense structure to continue development with much needed aging to open up fully. An outstanding & well-focused wine with an abundance of potential for further development.

Interesting aroma of cherries, orange liqueur. Decanted, but still fairly closed after an hour or so. Seems like there is a lot of interesting fruit and earthy flavors hidden behind tannins and oak for the time being. After 24 hours the tannins have eased. A bit more dark fruit on the nose now, but still not a lot of overt fruit on the palate.

Immediately greeted with the scent of cocoa powder upon first pouring; a nice, concentrated nose. Thereafter, notes of bramble, cedar, cassis, and perhaps some lavender. The palate is rich but elegant; a whisper soft touch but with great flavor intensity. Drinking remarkably well so young, but I may hold my other bottle to see how this evolves.
Pop and pour and served with food. Served at cellar temperature and allowed it ti warm a bit. Nose of black pepper and black cherries. Good black fruit flavor with a touch of oak on the finish. Shows some licorice and chocolate notes with a hint of black pepper on the back end.

Decanted an hour before serving, drank over a few hours. Young and oaky. Black and red berry fruit, nice acidity, some orange peel, but unfortunately dominated by oak on the nose and palate. I don't usually open Bedrocks this young and I won't open another of these for 3-5 years. I expect the oak will integrate.

Quite a “chewy” sensation on entry. Dark berry fruit, but, also, a suggestion of dried fruit—plum, apricot. Earthy, minerally things happening mid-palate. Stout tannins and strong acids suggest good aging potential.

Nose of bramble patch, clove, cocoa powder, and lavender. Decadently rich on the palate with a big dollop of cassis. Notes of cedar emerge. A wine of great intensity, without being heavy. Loads of fruit without being cloying. Tannin and oak emerge on the finish. Overall a lovely, if not a bit flamboyant, effort.

Bedrock -- Cultural Warriors and Advocates (Sonoma): The 2014 Bedrock Heritage impresses immediately with structure and length. The aromas right out of the bottle are so dark that without some air time in the glass they are monolithic.
After 30 minutes, crunchy fruit, cloves, red and dark fruit, thyme, lavender, cocoa, and spicy oak fill the glass brimful. The mouth is satin and oolong and more spice. Light oak, beautiful. Long finish even in its utter youth. May I conclude, an epic in the making? 94-96.

One the palate it full-bodied and structure with ample fruit flavors of black cherry black raspberry liqueur, red currant, red licorice, spice flavors beautifully wrapped around very energetic acidity and velvety well integrated tannins with a very satisfying finish.
