From Magnum. Gave a too strong decant and the wine completely faded. Opened 30min before drinking, it had decent fruits but structure was still a tight (maybe 91 at the time). I decide to put in decanter but at the end we only start drinking 2h later and the wine completely flatten (fruits/tannins mostly gone) 85 at the time. Just PnP and let it open in the bottle. In this case, it is a decent wine. I wouldn't rate higher as although tannins and fruits were nicely done, there is not much in tertiary and considering how fast it faded I don't see any upside potential for further ageeing.

Grabbed the wrong vintage of this one and had it decanted before I looked carefully. Our liking of this wine is unchanged, but now I find it a bit boring. Based upon other sources, it is a blend of Aglianico – Piedirosso. This produces a very dark (gloomy is the producer notes) and mineral laced wine. It takes quite a while for this wine to mature and become drinkable. The end result is a wine with a noticeable dark red and black fruit character that has nice mouthfeel. This bottle lasted several evenings with evening meals.
This is a dense, dark, somewhat forbidding wine, but with two hours in the decanter, it was completely drinkable. Strong licorice flavor upfront, resolving into black currant and then tar on the aftertaste. Great balance -- perfect as an accompaniment to strong-flavored food. Very consistent experience across three bottles over the last two years, though I think the licorice flavor is becoming more pronounced.

Notes from PNP - dark red/black color. On nose, ash, blackberry, sour cherry and tobacco notes (palate was similar with very bright fruit). Rich feel on palate- medium+ body/medium+acidity, medium tannins and long finish (holds back score by ~ 1 point). Very nice. 93+/-

Rich fruit, burnt berries, slightly high-toned/lifted on the nose. Dark fruit and wood on the initial attack. On open, quite tannic and tight, but opens after an hour or two of air. Medium-full bodied, medium tannin and acid. Rich and long, with a grainy sour fruit and oak finish. Could certainly hold for a couple more years.

Oh my, this is huge! Inky dark, very tannic. Definitely a food wine. Still tightly wine. This is really lovely. I wonder where it will be in five years, but might not have any left. It firmly belongs in a conversation of the regions best wines, if not the Country. It's really terrific. Iron, black fruits, firm, a wine that you want some beast to eat while enjoying.

The rustic, old world style is right up my alley, but the QPR isn't quite there. If I'd bought this blind for $20, I'd feel like I'd grabbed a really interesting bottle with some above-average niche value. At over $40, it doesn't quite work for me.

Intense ripe fruit on the nose, even as it sat open all night. Still tanic, but smoothing out and developed over a few hours. Agree with others asserting that this is drinking well right now

Better with air. Dark red, nearly black color. On nose, iron, blackberry, fig, burnt wood. Palate similar ex. burnt wood. Full body, medium+ tannins, medium acidity and long finish. I rate this wine higher 2-3 years ago but maybe just a palate preference vs. recent tasters. Very enjoyable. 92+

Russk. Brad brought to Villagio. A WOTN and drinking very nicely now. I would agree with Dream {the commenter below}. This wine/producer have always been one of my favorite Aglianicos, though they need time. 10 years was enough and this one was lovely. Perhaps it is the addition of Piedirosso that makes this seem so refined. Blind, I was told it was Aglianico. It was so refined and well made it could only have been one of a couple of producers.

A refined and elegant version of Aglianico with classic blue/black fruit and a nice minerally tang. Finishes smooth and fairly complex with notes of dark spices and road tar. Fully ready for my taste.

PNP. Black/red in the glass. On nose, tobacco, leather, black cherry and tar notes - fruit slightly oxidized relative to last tasting. On palate, similar flavor profile (fruit brighter). Much improved since 2019. Dark, bitter, rustic, structured, and brooding. Black plum, mineral, barnyard. Excellent paired with bold food. Aglianco is not a crowd pleasing grape, and this bottle has anything but a populist appeal, but with plenty of air and on a certain kind of niche palate, this is a really lovely wine. Decant at least 90 minutes.

A bit rustic after a short decant, but on day two this had polished up, with red meat, dark fruit, iodine, tobacco, and black licorice notes. Beautiful personality, great with air and food, will likely hold for many years. This being Aglianico, I wouldn't wait for it to 'mellow' out (it won't), but enjoy it's rugged charm now with a hearty ragu, something with eggplant maybe.
I agree with Montesquieu's comments. This wine definitely needs food to compliment it. After decanting for about 3 hours, I found if fairly astringent with the fruits slow to reveal. I'll try it again in the next few months with food to see how it fairs.

A small amount of sediment. Initial flavors of leather and tobacco, with a healthy dose of tannin, some astringency, and then dried fruits and fish sauce, with some smokiness. Moderate acidity. Medium body. The tannins fade as the wine is open, and a stronger tarry element emerges. Overall, complex and delicious. We decanted this 2.5 hours before the meal, and that was plenty -- we didn't have any sense that we were missing anything that would emerge with more age. If you have any, pop those corks and enjoy.

Decanted 2 hours before dinner (grilled ribeye) Dark red, nearly black color. Great nose - savory & sweet. Sweet / sour cherry, ash (a +) / dark black soil and leather.
Palate similar (ex Ash) with a note of iron as well. Fruit still very young and fresh. Medium acidity, medium tannins and very long finish. I loved this. 93-94.

How long until this wine truly peaks? Seems decades away. I enjoy earthy flavors and do enjoy this wine now, but with all this stuffing, it'll probably get much better after a decades evolution. Volcanic scree, black pepper, blackberry, tannins. My mental image is drinking the volcanic soil that covered and preserved Pompeii for millennia. Definitely a wine in need of food. I gave it a good decant for an hour and then drank over another two. Saved half a bottle for later, but I'm guessing it needs years in bottle, not hours/days in decanter, to fully open.

Solid Aglianico with a medium to dark garnet color. Nose is red and black fruited with some menthol, pipe tobacco and lots of earthy notes. Medium tannin and medium+ acidity. Nice mixed fruited palate of red and black berries along with some licorice. The earthy notes on the nose were less noticeable on the palate. Moderately long finish.

I continue to be impressed with how well this is drinking, before its 10th year. For the first time, thought, I got why some other reviewers have called this a baby Barolo. We had it right after a 2008 Clerico Barolo. There were some obvious similarities, although we liked this much better.

Decanted two hours before tasting. Deep, clear purple. Nose of licorice, plum, prune, barnyard; as is often the case with aglianco, there was an almost-off note that took a long while to blow off. A little thin and hot on the palate, raw black fruit and pie spice, just a bit brackish, with a good dose of minerality. Medium finish, rustic tannins under control. Nice bottle, but I've had similar, but more enjoyable bottles for half the price.

Pop and pour, consumed over 3 hours. Nose: Medium expressiveness, black cherry, cranberry, rusty earth, brine, black olives, and subtle dark floral undertones. Palate: Medium bodied, tart dark red fruit attack, grippy tanins, very rustic, solid acidic back-bone, black olives and spice in the back-end. Finish: Medium length dominated by tart red fruit and rusty earth. It's got character but coming across as a little to harsh for my palate this evening, probably could have used some food.

Hm. Had this in my wine fridge but somehow didn’t have it in CT. Anywho...
PnP, consumed over two nights. Beautiful aromatics on initial pour, but a bit tight and tannic on the palate. Definitely needed air, with the final glass on night two being the best. Hope I have more of these that I didn’t log....

Decanted for 2 hours and paired with grilled NY Strips. Black in the glass - gorgeous nose - rock, blackberry, black licorice, iron and dark soil(?).
On palate, more subdued flavor profile than the nose - medium+ body, medium+ acidity and medium tannins (not as tannic as I would have expected). Flavor profile of blackberry, black currants, black cherry.
I love this wine. 93-94 range.

Pop and pour. Smoothly rustic. ripe Aglianico with the pizza-herb notes found in some Chiantis but very round fruit on the palate. Nice little wine from Garagiste but not really a bargain at $50.
Not a focused tasting, but here are some thoughts from the table: Coffee, chocolate, dried cranberries, saladitos, white pepper, blueberries, ketchup; degraded tannins, concentrated salty tomato, mapo tofu, umami, corroded battery; good now but better in 10 years, excellent with Amy’s brownies.

Tasted double-blind. Distinctive savory elements stood out on the bouquet and palate. Mincemeat, truffle, sous-bois, and smokehouse, for example, along with smoking sweet pipe tobacco and black farm soil. All these elements convey a sense of density. For whatever reason, on this day, or with this bottle, I did not find ash and white pepper, which would have put my mind to volcanic provenance. Also noteworthy, by Aglianico standards, even at 80 percent of the blend, this is not a particularly tannic wine. Rather the savory essences and textural weight suggest a south of France blend, particularly Syrah based, such as many Minervois La Livinière offerings. Still evolving and also strikingly approachable, likely on account of overall ripeness. For this reason, I would not hold bottles beyond 2025-2028. Interesting and delicious! 92-93.

Tasted blind. Free and easy session at ES BK. Drank over bottle over 1.5 hours. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intesity, with aromas of herbs, capsicums, sweet black cherries, blackberries. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (13.5%), fine high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of blackcurrant, blackberries, black cherries, graphite, smoky tar, tobacco. Long finish. Good quality. Somewhat like a Left Bank Bordeaux but not quite. I feel like I am missing something here. Not enough air-time, but also a waste to drink this now. Would recommend re-exploring again in 5 years time.

Decanted for 1.5 hours, paired with grilled NY strips.
After a CDP tasting (and a cold beer to cleanse the palate), I wanted something a little different. Black in the glass. Great nose - graphite, black licorice, charcoal, blackberry & rock on nose. Palate had similar profile (ex rocks...) with great fruit / acid / tannin balance - medium acidity, high tannins and very long finish. I really enjoyed as did my wife. Improved with airtime. Will probably buy some more if I can find. 93-94+

Wow, was not looking forward to such a young TdL (still ageing my 2002), but, this was superb. As usual, there's exceptional balance, with deep tones of fruit and red/purple flowers that are pressed up against a bed of soil and earth notes. Much more elegant than I was expecting in such a young wine, but just proves - judge what's in the glass, and nothing more. Very fine. Drink (with some air) or HOLD. highly recommended
Tasted during a matter of taste walkabout, so only brief impressions. Wow, what a nose. Like a volcanic explosion with smoky notes, minerals, earth but also some flowers on the top note. Quite something. Wait till 2022 and you will have a winner in the glass.

(at A16 – SF) The second time I have had a wine from this producer in the past few months and I really like the profile. There is a lot of rustic fruit but it is well balanced and tamed (if certainly not domesticated!). Paired beautifully with the Southern Italian meal. Young but drinking well. Will certainly get better and more nuanced but I was very impressed. (93+)

I had meant to pull the 2010 vintage of this wine, as the WA reviews all say it needs years to age and become the wine they think it is. But recent reviews of the 2010 show a lot of people enjoying it that young.
I was a little bummed to be opening a 2012, but I really enjoyed it. It definitely can be drunk now. I had this at a small (I counted only 17 seats) local Italian place and enjoyed the wine with a ribbon pasta alla bolognese. This wine is a blend of Aglianico (80%) and Piedirosso (20%). It was smooth, well balanced with a medium length finish. A really nice nose of dark fruit, tar and ash is evident as soon as the cork was removed. This wine went well with and without the food.

Having drunk many other bottles of Galardi, I'm baffled at the simplicity of this edition. Soft, short profile without depth. Nothing flawed. Just a weak bottle.

Earthy, mineral, plum, ash, barrel seems a bit evident now. Nice mouthfeel, balanced. Very well made for an aglianico. Wait 5 years 93++

Decanted for 2 hours and paired with grilled ribeye steaks. Was ready to roll from opening though. Cedar, rose petals, sweet cherry, balsamic and wet stone (?) on nose. Full body, rich tannins and medium acidity with a very long finish. Very enjoyable - palate similar to nose. 92+/- [Better on night 2 - finish was longer and wine was very complex on nose & palate].

Very nice wine with dark red and black fruit notes plus a sense of a chalky mineraltiy. Nice mouthfeel and aftertaste. Decanted briefly and let rest in glasses.

Appena aperto, grandi presagi.
Dopo un po' si appiattisce per poi riprendersi mezz'ora dopo.
Diventa un po' facilone il giorno dopo.
Una bella esperienza comunque.

I continue to be impressed with how well these drink at a young age. It may be hard to wait and let this wine fully mature! Notes of smoke, tar, and maybe fennel on the palate. A medium mouthfeel with a medium long finish.
