Nothing like Beaujolais to get you to mentally inhabit a Paris bistro. Black tea, violet, cherry and raspberry - ending in baking powder covered orange zest. Delicious!

No hurry to drink this, but wow, is it impressive right now. Nose a mix of lavender, violets, strawberry, a bit of anise, dark cherry and blueberry. A bit of cigar/tobacco. Palate well balanced - remarkable fruit, acid, mineral structure. A good amount of mixed fruit, spice, and a bit of herbal astringency. Very long finish. This is both an objectively awesome wine and one I just adore.

Wow, this is excellent - medium pale to medium maroon - watery rim - big raspberry and strawberry nose, but leavened by a sort of vinous "cap" that keeps it from veering into caricature - nose is very powerful though - palate follows suit, big mature fruit, but a sheen of minerality makes it serious, contemplative. Still some nice structure on the finish, and quite long. Almost seems hot, it lingers so long, but at only 13%, it's not out of balance. Lovely as usual.

S bottling. Oh boy, so good. It really needed an hour of air for the fruit to re-emerge and the finish to smooth out But when it did, what a gorgeous fruit basket nose and maybe some white flowers. The fruit is still developing an aged burnish but still quite generous. It has some earth and tannin on the finish I haven’t quite seen before. This is a more Pinot-Esque bottle as I’ve had. For me, 2016 is the best vintage of this wine in the last ten years including 2014.

Crimson in color. 13% ABV. Pretty nose of red fruits, citrus and baking spices. Light to medium body with perfect acidity. Crisp and fresh. Cherry, blood orange, iron and minerals on the palate. Nice length on the finish. Delicious as always. Best over the next 2-4 years.

A lovely red fruited, light to just midweight Morgon. Very red fruit dominant, nothing meaty here. Similar on the palate, lovely soft pillowy red fruits, no tannins to speak of and a nice soft acid finish. I think this is a ready to drink vintage for Lapierre. Does remind me in many ways of Foillard Morgon which is no small compliment.

A young showing, not giving up much on either the nose or palate and a contrast to the beautiful, expressive 'S' version. Bitter/sour red fruit on the nose, tight, red berry fruit on the palate alongside earthy notes. All tucked in and tight as a fist right now. Serious wine with all the material needed to make this a great Morgon in 3-5 years. Wait.

From Mag, pnp at Sam and Stacy’s wedding. Fresh light red berry fruit, more chrysanthemum than not. Bitter florals. Light tannin. Day 3 and really settled in dark red cherry aromas. To the palate the bitter florals have gone away. Chewy fed fruit palate. Again, more cherry than not. Note to self, give this a solid 6-8hr slow ox next time. Much prettier today, still a wink of the bitter flora on the finish, but now nicely balanced flavors. Day 7 and surprisingly hanging on better than most. Got a little more bitter floral a couple days ago, but now again, suave and drinking best yet. Hold, hold hold these mags.

In the past year this has further improved from Very Good+ to Excellent, IMO.
Just so pleasurable, so honest, pure and drinkable that it would seem really straight-forward and not too complex if you don't pay attention.
Vibrant and reflective ruby color.
Sure, there's some cranberry and some strawberry jam and cherry pie. Other flavors come into focus, spiced apple, citrus zest, soy and molasses, olive?, toasted nuts, some black tea, an element of granite and rust. None of these were pronounced and none were always there. On the second night this did not put on any noticeable lactic character that I sometimes find in this family, or shall I say, "gang", of wines. It was hard to decide whether I liked it best on the first or second night.
Note: "S" bottling, M16TRS 06/06/17 13% abv

Ruby red in color. 13% ABV. Charming nose of red fruits, forest floor, black tea and flowers. Medium body with perfect acidity. Crisp and refreshing. Cherry, strawberry, earth and herbs on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. This wine delivers year in and year out and the '16 is not an exception. Great wine and great value. Best over the next 3-5 years.

A truly delicious Morgon, and clearly a stunning value (bought below EUR 20 about 2 years ago). Round, elegant, fresh, with aromas of flowers, raspberry, pepper, and wrapped in soft and velvety tanins. Pretty long, and impecabbly balanced. Impressive quality for the price bracket.

A truly unique regular bottling of Morgon. This Lapierre, though lacking the organic density of the CL cuvee, was just fascinating: distinct animale scents, pepper and spice, and a medium, if not lighter hue and body than the 2016 Foillard recently consumed. Dark red, plenty of dark cherry and briary tart fruit. Drink this now for a glimpse into the terrific character that first - rate Morgon can deliver.

Attractive nose, with peonies competing with wild strawberry and raspberry, quite a bright attack of the same, with a little white pepper, still very primary. I found it a bit overpowering but I imagine it would be more to my taste in another two or three years.

This bottle was a bit more closed than the one I had 15 months ago, but this was also the 'S' version, so not sure if that matters. Regardless, the fruit has a bit more dimension that only age can bring, but didn't have the aromatics and the finish that fans out and lingers. Tasty and well-balanced nonetheless!

Pungent herbal/stemmy/mineral nose. Lighter in body than I expected for a Morgon, elegant and refined but lacking some pieces (acid and structure) to make for old bones. Drink up, as I don’t see much upside and this seems to be fading a bit.

Aging well. Actually, not very different than a year ago. Red cherry, blueberry, raspberry, soil on the nose. Light, bright and refreshing on the palate but with a solid amount of extract. Silky mouthfeel, tannins are low but present. This is such a perfect Summer red. Chilled it and had it on a warm Summer evening. Went so well with BLT sandwiches.

18 months after last drinking, this has become so accessible and irresistible. Appealing, substantial scents of dark cherry, earth, and smoke are clean but exotic. The palate gives an impression lively, cool, and deep; floral and flowing. Served at 60 degrees F on a hot evening. Great now, better in a year, delicious through -2025.

For those who turn up their nose at simple Morogn, don't. This 2016 delivers a higher-toned acid balance but showcases, even in this "villages" bottling, the sophistication that Lapierre delivers in the Morgon appellation. Well defined high-toned bright red fruit, a good dose of tellicherry pepper after each swallow, and that core of well-teased gamay that makes this such a delightful food wine. At cellar temp, ready to start drinking now.

Pnp at restaurant. Maybe the best bottle of this yet. Superior integration and fruit continues to settle down. The nose was flowing with earth, fruit, and flowers. Intoxicating. Totally fresh and no funk on the palate. The finish was fanning out.
Oh well. I'm an outlier based on others' comments, and I appear to be going off Lapierre's wines. This was bretty and a bit shrieky (acidic) and not at all compelling. Seemed thin and lacked a savory/mineral core. I prefer Morgon from Piron or Bouland or foillard by a very large measure.

I love this wine. I have heard this called a poor man's Volnay and this fits. Has crystal clear aromas of raspberries, minerally hints, flowers. Its classy medium bodied spherical and ultra silky weightless blue and red fruits palate has a lush yet crunchy superbly concentrated and delineated middle. Ends longish, fresh lush and layered. 13%.

This is a very soft and delicate Morgon, very floral, lots of violets on the nose, on the palate I found soft cherries, raspberries, liquorice, dried herbs along with very light dusty tannins. Drank from a 1.5l, this was very approachable now. I previously mentioned to hold off, however why wait, when it is drinking so beautifully now. I found this more savoury and lighter in structure vs. the 2017
A fresh and inviting nose. Bright and fresh fruit with fresh berries, red licorice and a sense of minerality on the palate. It is fresh, with great lift and snap to the fruit. Terrific balance. There is a weightlessness to this wine and an incredible ease to drinking this serious yet fresh and incredibly drinkable wine. Youthfully exuberant and delicious.

‘N’ version. Really need to keep my hands off of these so at least one makes it to old age. This bottle didn’t quite reach the same heights as the prior two but it was probably my mood and not the wine. Same flavorful dark fruits and a longish finish. Tonight I thought the acid could have been higher and the fruit seemed a bit thicker, so I was probably in the mood for something more crisp and structured. Let’s see if I can go at least a year now.

Beaujolais Bash (Arlequin Wine Merchant, San Francisco): Eye opening next to the '15, this gorgeous '16 is more balanced, offering cherries you can almost hold, tickled with pie and flowers, spice and a touch of mineral, with a heavenly, sweet finish that hugs its figure like a slinky black dress.

A 92/93. My first Lapierre Morgon and I am really impressed! Has effusive aromas of earth, leather, flowers, raspberries, minerals, menthol, plums and strawberries. Its medium bodied elongated yet beautifully concentrated yet weightless and silky finessed blue and red fruits palate ends super long and refreshing. 13%. This is constantly developing in the glass! A classy wine.

Marcel Lapierre is one of the pillars of natural winemaking in Beaujolais. No, we're not talking about this era of hipsters publishing magazines and having sex only on Fruit Day. These were hardcore rebels, who risked everything for a revolution, a legacy fueled not by capital, but by odic ideals. Sadly, Mr. Lapierre passed away after the 2010 harvest, but his son Mathieu and daughter Camille carry on what he pioneered. Grapes for this Morgon (the most precious of Bojo crus) are manually harvested, as late as possible to achieve maximum ripeness. The wine is aged on fine lees in old Burgundy barrels for at least 9 months and is bottled unfiltered.
Stunning nose of cherry pie, sour cherry, cooked cherry, cherry juice. Basically, cherry all around in the first pour. Remarkable purity and finesse, silky on the entry, but progresses towards a focused and perpetual mid-palate. Perfectly integrated alcohol and acidity, with such a sexy texture. Persistent all the way through.
Medium ruby featuring a rich array of red berries from cherry and strawberry to cornelian cherry and details of floral scents. Pure fruit with mouth-watering acidity and fine-grained tannins.

From memory. Sulfured "S" version. Took about 30 min - 1 hr to open up. Bright red and black berries, herbs, a and a good dose of minerals. Nicely balanced between the fruit and its other elements. Juicy but yet complex. I've grown to like the non-sulfured "N" version more as I think it is more fresh and lively. But the "S" version is no slouch as tonight attests to. I'll always take a glass of Lapierre regardless of S or N. So good.

Preliminary assessment here, had over two nights. This is a pretty, transparent rendition, coming across very pure and mostly bright, red fruit with some touches of dried herbs. It never really showed much complexity and would have benefited from at least a touch more depth. Very good.

Much prefer the 2017(93 pts) to the 2016. This feels very light with a good nose of red fruits and a light vegetal undertone, the finish is very delicate and soft. I feel this has closed a little since when I tried the same wine last year. I plan on holding on to my magnum for at least another 4-5 years. Hoping this will return and be better than year 1.

Dinner at Sun Wah (Chicago, IL): Definitely don't get the fuss about this. Slightly peppery and earthy on the nose, with a fairly high-toned character and a decent mix of red and black fruit. Light on the palate, but simplistic. Good acids and fruit, but not much of interest. Decent for gamay, but that's not saying much.

Downtown Offline (Water Grill): 'N' version. Feels like a very grown up beaujolais and not nearly as fruit foward as 15's. In fact, there is a wonderful earthiness that compliments the dark red fruits and fine tannins that provide some nice substance to the wine. Definitely needs a few years, but already drinking so well. As Bryan remarked, a beaujolais you can have with a burger.

transparent violet color. Nose some initially sweaty/earthy notes -- fades with time, dark-fruited/grapey aromas afterward. Palate appealingly light bodied, strong iron/minerality, herbal. Less ripe than the 15, seems much more balanced, a joy to drink at this stage with the fruit still being prominent but would love to see this with time. 93 pts
Interesting experiment as we had one bottle with SO2 and the other the traditional way without. The one with SO2 was fresher and livelier. After about 30min the one without SO2 was pretty flat compared to the other. Not to say that the one without the SO2 was a bad wine. 3 1/2*. Just not as good as the other.

A young Morgon, textbook Gamay by one of the most renown natural wine producers there is. I’m not gonna add SO2, a Beaujolais rebel that gave a headstart to a movement that is now beyond all borders.
Lots of ripe and juicy berries, a cherry pie, round and plump. Ready now, but I’m interested how this evolves - so I put a magnum away for a few years. Let’s wait.
Another delicious Morgon from Lapierre; beautiful red fruits and floral notes, hints of stone dust and spice; the palate is full of crunchy fruit and is simply delicious.

On the palate, black cherry, licorice, rocks and wet earth. Not fleshy but rather ethereal.
Stunning soft fuzzy texture on the finish that keeps inviting another sip.
Fully compatible with both a focaccia with arugula and prosciutto, as well as sweet plantains stuffed with ground beef. Both dishes bring to the forefront different aspects of the wine.

Stunning purity and elegance. Sweet strawberries and raspberries on the nose; silk on entry, light bodied, and a wonderful focused, pure and persistent red fruit presence on the midpalate that shimmers for a long time, the finest rasp of tannin, some minerality, subtle filigree acidity. Supreme balance and sexy texture. Quite different from any other Beaujolais I've had in the past, which were either more plodding or structured, or less precise. This Lapierre reminded me of Bartolo Mascarello's 2012 Barolo in its litheness and beauty.

A truly delightful and not simple cru Beaujolais to enjoy now with no decant and also in a few years when it develops secondary complexity. This 2016, my first, is in such fine hands at Lapierre and offers nicely chiseled bright to medium red fruit— raspberry, lingonberry, cherry—crisp acid, and the de rigeur moist soil, wet wood with little tannin and none of the overly fleshy 2015 traits.
If this bottle is representative of 2016, try them and then perhaps hold your 2014s—in my view the greatest cru Beaujolais vintage ever—drink some 2015s with breathing time and hold the others until they settle down a bit, and otherwise consume any 2009-2013 bottles lying around.

Unlike the 2015 this is mostly on fruit and violet. Tannin structure is low and it has medium high aciditiy. I liked allot the 2015. The 2016 is more closer to a typical Morgon on fruit and less concentrated but drinks much easier. Very good wine for the price

This has been open for two hours now. The aromas are very pretty, expressing that typical Lapierre aroma that allows one to pick this wine out of a lineup with that beautiful strawberry/floral note that's actually quite unique. There's also this red-vine component that's yummy. If there was briar that was made out of cranberries then that would also be here, because there's this streak of acidity and minerality even expressed on the nose. I really appreciate the nose. The palate is quite elegant on medium to thin body, yet very graceful, sexy texture even if it is not the most expressive. Nice flavor, but quite soft in its expression. The tannins do coat the palate and tongue and there is certainly acidity there, but I'd say less than one may expect from a really classic vintage. It's a bit lighter in structure on the palate than I'd expect. The finish shows up with more structure, primarily acidity, with generous red fruit tones. Very exuberant super ripe little red strawberries. Leaves the mouth puckering for a minute after swallowing due to the acidity. Probably not a long term ager (20 years), but I do think it will drink well over the next 10.

Reste somme toute simple. Je m'attendais à plus.

Tons of potential here, but already showing beautifully. In the same league as the excellent 2014, with plenty of signature Lapierre iron, herbs, smoke, and sweet, juicy red fruits, along with the right amount of acidity. Unlike many Bojo-heads, I actually liked the 2015 Lapierre, but this is clearly a step up in terms of structure and freshness.

On the nose you can smell that distinct beaujolais tart smell. On the nose it is nearly Pinot like. Beautiful notes of blackcurrant, raspberry and a nice earthy taste. Drinking beautifully now

Nose is shy but pretty with minerals, gravel, and red fruit. Raspberry and minerality on the palette with a vegetal note on the end. Velvety ribbons in such a soft, supple wine.

Pleasant Morgon. Perfect ruby color - normal legs consistent with the label 13% alcohol. Nose was subdued, understated cherry aromas dominated by a dusty pepper. On the palate quiet tannins in harmony with a medium low acidity. Good mid palate fruit - cherries and some green apple. Doesn't have the pop and zing of the Dutraive Fleurie - a much more sedate experience. Still, well put together though on the shorter side of a medium finish.

Boom! That's my onomatopoeic attempt at describing the explosive gamay fruit flavors here. Some nice earthy soil tones in the mid-palate and finish. This is why Lapierre is great.

Wow. 2016 seems to be a stellar vintage for Lapierre. Time will tell (and it needs a little time), but this might be better than the 2014 and i definitely prefer it to the 2015. This seemes to have all the makings of a classic vintage.

More hard cranberry than the Julienas, cranberry oceanspray. Actually not "hard" cranberry at all, full and ripe. Fuller and riper than the Julienas and then more tannin too. Textbook terroir and its super cool to try side by side. In some ways, I like the Julienas more. But such a textbook showing.
So young and primary. Really not showing much even with a generous decant. I was surprised that the fruit profile here was more blue than red. Pretty structured young Morgon. No doubt it is already delicious.

A great vintage for Lapierre's Morgon where the set-up is soil driven rather than fruit driven as in 2015. A beautiful nose of flowers, cherry fruit and granite. Much leaner than the 2015, more precise and focused with great purity of fruit and a very distinct sense of the soil. There are also marks of licorice pastilles and orange. Vraiment Lapierre and Morgon. Beautiful wine.

Let’s wait.

As I had previously experienced in standard bottle this wine is very easy to drink.with loads of red cherries and strawberries on the nose and palate. Medium high acidity with enough tannins to keep the taste going in the mouth. Happy to have more in the cellar. Still a very young wine

Tons of potential here, but already showing beautifully. In the same league as the excellent 2014, with plenty of signature Lapierre iron, herbs, smoke, and sweet, juicy red fruits, along with the right amount of acidity.
