14.5% alcohol. The cork is of medium length but of pretty good quality; very dense. Translucent ruby colour with a slightly faded tinge, as is common with Nebbiolo. Very vivid nose of wild red berries with some dried rose petals. There is a lovely silky quality to the mouth; very good grip nevertheless, and plenty of fruit. The only negative is a slight feel of alcohol in the finish. Excellent match for thick veal chop with mushrooms in a creamy tarragon sauce and fresh tagliatelle.

14.5% alcohol. Good long dense cork. Decanted 90 mn ahead. The colour is lightish and translucent. Very aromatic nose saturated with wild red berries, mostly redcurrant but also with a very pleasant balancing raisiny aspect (not overdone in any way); a whiff of alcohol too at times, that I could do without but not that intrusive. In the mouth, the wine is fresh with bracing acidity and a great sense of purity; red fruited to the power two. Tannins are not a concern. One of the good LN and a repeat purchase (paid 12.5€, but prices have gone up a bit since).

This such a solid wine at a great price. There is fruit, tannin, acidity, and complexity. Perfect for a pop and pour on a weeknight when your in the mood for nebiollo.

Really beautiful nose with strawberry and cherry preserves, bit of mint, some white pepper, and rose. Much less fruit forward than the last bottle, but, the tannins and fruit are still in balance. Modest finish — but, a nicely developed wine. Doubt it will get better, I don’t think anyone will regret holding it this long. I liked it a little more when it was packed with fruit a couple of years ago…

This wine was sort of "meh" to our palates here ... Some strong dark cherry cough syrup qualities and bit sweet/unbalanced and lacking in structure for a younger-ish nebbiolo. Will let our other bottle sleep for a few more years and see what happens ...

What a nose! Lovely, clean and intense aromas of red cherry, leather and to a lesser extent earthy mushrooms. Fresh and light on the palate and are more easily distinguishable from Barolos and barbarescos here. Fine tannins and a fairly short finish. A really good langhe nebbiolo.

Last bottle from a case, and far and away the best. Intensity and purity of fruit now matched by an overall harmony that was initially lacking. Wish I’d been a bit more patient.

14.5% alcohol. Very short cork, pretty dense but with a lot of fault lines. No wine penetration. Light to medium colour. Very aromatic nose of cranberry and redcurrant. The mouth is in the same vein, but it manages to remain somewhat silky in spite of its strapping acidity; there is a slightly rustic character too, but I would count it as a positive. None of the abrasive tannins that are often associated with the grape, but there is plenty of grip, especially in the aftertaste. Superb with roasted duck, a dish that I normally pair with Burgundy. At the price that I paid (12€ if memory serves), this is excellent value.

I agree with another recent review, this is wonderful. Drank in Reidel new world Pinot glass and in 40 min was fantastic and within another 40 was declining. I say drink now. Had with pasta and turkey meatballs

My final bottle from a six-pack purchased at the cantina upon release. This PnP had a darker garnet core, was clear with medium brightness. This showing has my scorecard with (3) good showings, and (3) very good showings, even if nearly all other variables were constant, e.g. serving temp. Fruits tended to dusky red, with aromas akin to autumn woods, soil/place more than floral or berry. All in all, a reliable, enjoyable sub-$20 bottle. I'd be drinking these sooner than later, for maximum freshness. 14,5%, natural cork. recommended
To be a bit blunt, this drinks much better now than it did on release, with a measure of integration and harmony that was initially lacking, imho. I don’t think there’s a lot of upside to waiting longer, but no rush either.

14.5% alcohol. Dense cork of average length. Poured two glasses 20mn ahead. Medium to dark ruby colour, with a translucent quality. The nose is refined if somewhat restrained, with wild red berries, a powdery aspect and a hint of a pharmaceutical note (in a nice way). The mouth is probably a step above with a silky feel and good grip but neither noticeable tannins nor excessive acidity. More red berries and soft spices. The alcohol is well integrated. This wine scratches my Nebbiolo itch so well that I stopped buying any Barolo or Barbaresco. Excellent value at around 12€, if memory serves. In terms of refinement, this is at the level of a good regional Burgundy or even a village wine from the Côte de Beaune. A repeat purchase in similar vintages.

Wow. Amazing QPR on this $20 Nebbiolo. Bright fruit and acidic with great smoothness and a long finish. The balance is impeccable. Some pencil shavings against the bright red fruits. Just enough tannins to make it interesting. We, of course, decant and that helps it shine.

Poured in glass and let stand 45 min. Dark fruit on entry, medium tannin, medium body, minimal nose. Fairly monotone taste from entry to finish. Good, but not interesting.

The ever reliable producer, so a safe bet on the pizza restaurant list. Nice they had one a few years in as well. Medium ruby to garnet with transparency. Smells of cherry and high toned red fruits, bit of floral, some tar. Light to medium body, medium (+) acid and finish, with flavors of the same fruits, black tea, lemon, and lingering minerality. Drinking great pop & pour.

Drinking lovely right now. Rumors of its demise are grossly exaggerated ;). Red fruit, iodine, black licorice, with medium acid, high tannin, and long finish. With more time, the fruit becomes more black and prominent. Super delicious.

As before: more bottle variation, and a solid showing. Lots of dusky fruit on this one, with a pronounced canvas of tar as its backdrop. Drank well over two nights, with some black tea, rather of lot of pine tree aroma, and even a touch of vanilla showing on the nose during the second night. Shows good vigor and elegance with avg/avg+ complexity. Can hold, but maximize the freshness, and drink now. 14,5% abv., natural cork. recommended
it takes a little time in the glass open up and then it’s pretty giving, it’s still got a few tannins unsurprisingly but the ripe berry fruit pads them out nicely, probably one for the short to mid term, 14% and well managed for the vintage

pop 'n pour; opens nicely, but the real impact at 1.5 hours is in the utterly beguiling nose; better out of the gate w/food, as it is beginning to get considerably dry w/air.
linguini 'al limone' w/escarole, country ham & gremolata, parm
3/10/21 decanted 30 min. chewey version this evening; slightly less enchanting than the previous bottle. (88)
{PnP} My fourth of six purchased at the cantina, and probably the tenth time I've tasted since release. That said, this was the only bottle of the four I bought that really 'brought it'. And by that I mean, it rather quite blew me away. In all respects, the experience in the instant case was much more like a fine Barbaresco from a celebrated vintage. Does this one grand slam home run make up for the other three more mediocre performances? I can't say. Instead, I'll just celebrate this big win, and hope the remaining two - which I will consume in the coming 18 months - can reach the same heights. Fwiw, it lost a quarter step on day two. 14,5% abv., recommended+
Much different than my prior bottles, this one being fresh, structured, and quite enjoyable (even if a bit less so on day two). So, lots of bottle variation, it would seem. FWIW, my bottles came from the same case, same shipment (from Europe) in March 2020, so no chance for heat damage, etc. These are living things, like small children. They can delight, and drive one crazy just the same. 14,5% abv., 100% Nebbiolo, with a natural cork. Now thru 2023. recommended
decanted one hour, wide exposure decanter. loamy & spicy nose at outset, hour 2, expressive sweet & pretty dark cherry arrives; unexpected blast of ripe sour cherry fruit on initial palate, then dusty & dry counterpoint. typically for young nebb, this became astringent on the gums w/more air.
right now, the fruit is there to still provide considerable enjoyment; other drinkers seem to have variable results; today is a fruit day, if one believed in that influence. 5 of 12, will enjoy sooner. gratifyingly good w/the food
white pizza w/grilled corn, provolone, guanciale, serrano chile
Visiting the Produttori two years ago, Aldo Vacca said that the 2016 Langhe could have all gone into the regular Barbaresco. Tasting it tonight it was clear that he was right. The balance of fruit and tannin was spot on, and the finish was all rosé petals and new leather. Fabulous wine with a long future, except that I am going to drink the rest of my bottles much too soon.

Faint iodine aroma, black licorice on the palate. A bit of bitter tannin on the finish. The fruit has taken a back seat now, making this even more a food wine than before. Given some air, more sweet black fruit emerges. And yet I crushed a glass while cooking, so this is clearly tasty.

In the first act, there's a wine that's just been uncorked, and is quite obviously reduced beyond any reasonable factor of enjoyment. Nonetheless, I consume half of the bottle as I've not time/motivation to fetch another from the cellar. I swirl, and swirl, and swirl. A mere, swift and fleeting suggestion of red fruit appears. Once. During 30 minutes.
The second act, which happens to fall the second day after it's been opened, is a completely undrinkable wine - acids are literally screeching to the point of drowning out any utterance of fruit. I gave up, and left the final two ounces of the bottle in my glass on the counter (i.e. ambient temp/open). I fully expected to find a fully oxidized mess the next morning.
Act 3 opens with me coming downstairs the next morning, to make coffee. I spot the remains of this troublesome and wholly disappointing bottle, and take a sniff. What's there is a completely harmonic, rather lovely, and in no way oxidized after just a gentle swirl of the glass. smh.
Something of a wild ride, as many great wines are, and rather like a good book: unexpected twists, and turns, and a happy, meaningful message. Based upon the final meeting, this is recommended+
Our third bottle of ten, the tannin is just starting to soften, the fruit is vibrant and beautifully integrated to a point where these are just starting to be in a place where we will enjoy them. There's still some structure with the tannin, but there is plenty of fruit to keep these for another year or two in my book. This was the first bottle that we enjoyed immediately on opening, all the others were so tannic that they needed 12-24 hours to pen up. We will start drinking these every month or so until they're gone...but I see no rush. Others seem concerned about the loss of fruit, but our bottles were stored passively under the cellar and do not show signs of drying out. A wine like this needs fat, and food to pair with it. One heck of a bargain...
It's exactly as NYC_Maenad says it is. Shame on me. I had little access to my Italian cellar since this was released, and didn't get to drink it in its proper window. Opened one tonight, and it's exactly as she says. Absolutely drink up. Lighter body, red fruited, absent enough fresh acidity to render it compelling. I will be rushing through the next 5 bottles. 14,5% abv., drink yesterday. Loved it on release; thankfully paid just 10 Euro at the cantina, fwiw. Still. That said, I still hold out some hope that my remaining 5 bottles may show better, fresher.
Our last bottle from this case, which has been consistently very good. I think we drank at the right time and pace, as the last couple of bottles have shown less of the joyful youthful fruit that made it so special. It's more about structure now, and still an enjoyable bottle. It got beat up a bit by the goat liver and bacon, so we drank most of the bottle after dinner. Nice nebbiolo character, kind of medium everything at this point. Except medium enjoyment.
Starts off a bit off; maybe a bit reductive, though I have never experienced that with these wines. Opens up really nicely over a couple of hours though. Excellent with pizza. Same DNA as the Barbaresco but drinking better now. I'd hold these another year or two ideally.

Much more serious than the 2015 which drank beautifully young. This remains tight and tannic with red fruits emerging day 2. While generally I’d attack early, I think an additional 2-3 years in cellar will help. Will be Interesting to taste alongside the normale to ascertain whether there is a significant difference. Regardless, about the best $23 dollar wine alive when you choose your vintages well.
Much better than the one I opened at the end of 2018, cranberry, red cherry, and rose, fresh snappy palate, but that rough tannin it had on release has calmed down, and there's no more oaky cinnamon note dominating. Nothing more specific as this was a few nights ago. Very nice now, no rush of course.

Nose is very classy, cherries and tar with new leather. Palate is equally obviously Nebbiolo, candied cherries, hints of violets and good acidity to match the grippy but still pleasant tannins. Give it some air and it will be slamming with some rich cheese or pepperoni pizza.

Still quite young, very tannic. Bitter cherries are the most prominent note. Went very well with pizza. A refined Rosso without being boring or modern. Aldo says this is all Barbaresco grapes and that in this vintage all were of a quality to make the Barbaresco. The only difference is that it's fermented (and aged?) partially in concrete vats because the preferred lots take up most of the barrels. I can believe it. These likely need a few more years, but I wanted to check in on the development.

This is a very high quality Langhe Nebbiolo, with the only knock perhaps being that it has a bit too much stuffing for its own good - one purchases Langhe Nebbiolo to drink young, but the heft and tannins of this wine suggest to me it will likely improve a bit with age. A highly perfumed nose of red fruits and spices, high level of acidity and gripping tannins on the palate. Aromatically in particular, I find this wine really beautiful and quite impressive at this price point. This is an excellent introduction to what hopefully are phenomenal Barolo & Barbaresco wines in the 2016 vintage.

Medium minus ruby red. Quite floral on the nose with some candied cherries, light tar and a little woody. Solid acidity with drying tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus bodied. Coats the palate with some dark bitter cocoa, cherries, cedar and dark gravel. Medium to medium plus finish. Drink till 2024.

Excellent bottle, but took about four hours to open up. Tannic beast until then. I see little daylight between this and the normale actually. Decanted, swirled vigorously, became markedly sweeter and fruitier and just better after 3-4 hours. Wonderful value. Will absolutely bury the remaining bottles for about two to three years at least.

Very good for an entry level wine. Ripe nebbiolo fruit with crushed cherries, licorice, earth and spice. Nice but pinched nose and medium to full bodied palate with moderate tannin. Will probably be a little better in one or two years.

Nose started out with a strong Grenache-like strawberry jam profile that reminded me of a Cotes du Rhone. Some garrigue too. Evolved toward cherries and cinnamon. Some heat. Very grippy with nice lift from the acidity. Modest finish. Would never guess Nebbiolo blind -- particularly based on the nose. Still, an interesting and very food friendly wine.
Bright red, nose has almonds, marzipan, liquorice and tart cherries with hints of leaves. Medium mouth feel, light and delicate fruit, some mid-palate tannin before the finish comes with a surprisingly solid nerve and backbone for a Langhe Nebbiolo. 14,5% is very well integrated and overall I am very impressed with the 2016. From now to 2022

Another winner here. Vibrant dark fruit contrasted by an elevated brightness. Sort of a red-magenta tone - cherry fruit. Good earthiness and some spice underpinnings that are complimented by flora. Supple tannins provide some support but don't stick out. Terrific weeknight wine.

Medium ruby with garnet hue, lighter at rim. Red fruit is the primary driver here, but with some coaxing additional layers are revealed. On the nose, cherry, dried cranberry and strawberry with anise and white pepper adding some spice while smoky overtones are revealed with aeration. On the palate cherry attacks first and the mid-palate reveals strawberry then, transitions quickly to a medium length finish of dried cranberry and spice. This medium body wine has a relatively round mouth feel with firm (slightly coarse) tannins and a medium acid. A well made wine, but nothing that is going to knock your socks off.

Medium ruby. Black fruit. Pretty hefty for Nebbiolo, not overly ripe, but unusual flavors of olive and a real chocolatey richness. The most typical thing about it was the zingy acid. A mouthful to be sure, but not what I'm looking for from Nebbiolo.

A definite put a smile on your face kind of wine. I love the interplay of the plentiful cherry fruit, acid, and tannins here -- it's very balanced and the wine just begs another sip. Everything is so persistent that I suspect this will evolve into something really nice over the course of the next 5 - 8 years or so and I suspect if you held a bottle of this for 15 years you might be surprised at what you get. For $16, count me as being very impressed.

I'm a bit split by this bottle right now. Aroma is very forward, with strong notes of red cherry and cherry pit and cinnamon. The palate is quite robust with very rough grained tannin, making me think this needs a few years to settle down. I love Produttori's Barbaresco's and Riservas, but a Langhe nebbiolo really shouldn't need to age. I was also surprised to detect oak in the profile. It showed better with a protein heavy meal, but really quite bound up right now.
Medium plus red. Nuanced red fruit nose. There is some weight to the fruit. It ends as you would guess - with tannin that coats your teeth! Despite and because of the tannin, this is a good and interesting bottle of wine with ability to age.

Red berries, rose petals, sage, and a bit of alcohol on the nose. Fine, slightly dusty, drying tannins, medium acidity, dark cherries, and red fruit on the palate. Medium finish. This took a while to develop the characteristic Nebbiolo nose and still after an hour in the decanter I’m not sure if I would’ve guessed Nebbiolo if served blind. Well made wine, definitely good value, and goes well with food. 90+

I bought six of these and I am going through them much too quickly. A very solid Langhe Nebbiolo. Bright, red fruited, food friendly, and no guilt for opening them young. Excellent value for Nebbiolo ($16). I will try to reload and I look forward to trying the 2016 Barbaresco.

14.5% alcohol. Distinctive elegant bottle. The cork is short but pretty dense. Not decanted. Very pale colour, close to cranberry juice. Good aromatics of bitter cherries, reminiscent of a cross between Beaujolais and Côte Chalonnaise; this is a good start. The mouth is equally good, with flavours that match the aromas. A slightly sweet note at the start causes concern, but it does not impinge unduly after that (although I could have done without it); there is substantial acidity in the finish (enough to stop me having this kind of wine two days in a row), and a bitter touch in the aftertaste, but the general impression left by the wine is one of elegance, in spite of the minor flaws which hopefully are transitory. The alcohol does not protrude. Pretty impressive given that it is the entry level of that coop and that the wine is so young. A repeat purchase, and I am looking forward to checking the evolution of this vintage over time.

This is really excellent, to the point where if you told me this was the Barbaresco normale I'd have no reason to doubt you. That said, it's as difficult to evaluate (and drink) as a '16 Barbaresco would be right now. I'll be burying these for at least a year, but if I'm smart I'll wait two to three years before trying the next bottle.

Opened the bottle and poured a glass, then came back to it about an hour later. Very tight and ungiving, with a good dose of acidity. Plenty of stuffing, with deep, dark fruit and some tar notes, but it's hidden behind a wall of tannin. This is not a light, easygoing Langhe Nebbiolo. On day two, it has loosened up quite a bit, and shows as serious, well balanced, juicy and fresh. Very nice. Needs at least two years of aging to even begin to be approachable (unless it shuts down).

As others have said, this is a nice value and entry level Nebbiolo. Red berry fruits, some floral notes and a touch of mineral on the finish. The fruit is tart and sour, not in a bad way, initially, but it starts to turn slightly sappy with air. I can see this improving in the short/medium term. This drank well with homemade chicken and dumplings on a snowy evening.

Fresh floral and red fruit elements show significant depth on the palate. It’s beautiful to smell and surprisingly suave in the mouth. There’s some backbone there, so combined with the depth of fruit it has a mid-term future. Stunning bargain in Nebbiolo.

Tight and clumsy right out of the bottle, but waiting for this slowly evolve in the glass for 2 hours is like watching a picture slowly come into focus through a camera - a moment comes when you exclaim, "Aha! I see it now!" Sour cherries, redcurrant, cola spices, old wood, and roses on the nose. Nice balance and presence in the mouth, very fresh, and robust, grippy tannins on the back end.
Aldo Vacca mentioned in a recent interview that (paraphrasing loosely) the quality of the grapes overall was so high in 2016 that a lot of the fruit that went into the basic Langhe nebbiolo was good enough for the barbaresco but they also couldn't not make the entry-level wine for the year so that's where these grapes ended up. Drinking this wine, I don't doubt his claim at all. This is serious nebbiolo for the money and warrants at least one or two more years of aging, if not more. The only quibble one could have is that a basic Langhe nebbiolo that's not very approachable upon release seems to defeat the point but hey, good juice is good juice and I'm not complaining.
so clear in the glass, the nose reminds you that this will not be as light as the colour! Med-high tannins, high acidity. Sour cherry pie, wood smoke. The length is not as long as it's bigger brother, however perfectly enjoyable. Should probably leave this 1 year minimum to fully develop.
In 2016 this is a Baby-Barbaresco with serious structure and a lengthy finish. With its very pure fruit expression, mainly raspberries and cherries, racyness and well conceiled 14,5 ABV this is well to drink now, if you let it breath for at least one hour, and a great food companion. But I definitely expect the wine to develop complexity and age for at least 6 to 8 years. Better than many producers Barbaresco and a bargain. 90+

14,5%, natural cork. recommended

A three act play.

Lighter bodied and extremely tasty with bright red fruits and a dry, clean finish. A great buy for $17.

Pretty hyped vintage of this wine, but failed to impress. A decent langhe nebbiolo, but with slightly too much alcohol. Might give it another try.

Dark violet ruby yet strikingly translucent. Nose dark fruited, black cherries, grapey, some kirsch, prominent floral notes with time. Palate bright, dusky red cherries with hint of earth on finish, some black tea flavor per J, light texture, very food friendly. Outstanding QPR, ready to drink on PnP

Fun, simple, easy drinking. Didn’t strike me as particularly Nebbiolo like, probably because of the age and little oak.

K and I both really liked given the modest price point for this entry level nebbiolo. Little tight and improved after opening. Little earthy, cherry flavors. Went very well with pasta with a quick mushroom ragu

Replacement for corked bottle.
Clear light red. Tight nose at first, smoke, black cherry, pepper and cranberry. Opens up over about 2 hours. Delicious earthy cherry flavours and a tannic finish. Re corked and put in fridge.
Day 2 . Very open Nebbiolo nose, earth, pepper, red cherry and a bit of road tar. Delicious earthy cherry flavours and a lot of structure.

Light clear red. Great fresh nose, red cherry, cola, cranberry and roasted nuts. Delicious dry cherry fruit and a very nice tannic finish.
Very enjoyable after an hour in the decanter. Very drinkable so very young. I was afraid to open this so early but it is ready to go.
