Gareth's glorious game dinner (Canary Wharf): The second half of a magnum that had been opened 48 hours before and then stoppered. I wasn't paying close attention by this point, but the wine was delightful, with excellent ease and balance, plenty of energy, creamy mouthfeel, and tasty lemon curd and lemon shortbread. Plenty of time in hand, at least in magnum, based on this example.

Can't really rank this one because it wasn't really flawed except that it lost it's fizz. We drank it in a burgundy glass as a white wine, and it was quite enjoyable that way. Rich lemony biscuit, bracing acidity, and the purity of chalk & tension throughout. If it had it's fizz, would have been really something. Nevertheless enjoyable just not typical Champagne in the usual state. Open that bottle night 2021

Quite dark and mature color. Weak but lively mousse. Very rich with mature apples (or apple pie), hazelnuts, marzipan and a whiff of safran. This has become a very rich drink with age. I preferred it when it was younger.

A blend of 55% Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims and 45% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs, nine years sur lattes. Mature but lively appearance, medium straw yellow colour; the meaty reduction on the nose does not completely mask the lively and floral aromatics and the honeyed richness, especially on the second day; the palate is rounded and supple but elegant and fresh, with flavours of citrus (more orange than lemon), white nuts and honey and engaging but subtle bitters; very good resonance and length. Completely developed and mature, time to drink up.

Great old champagne, driven by a nice acidity, dry fruits (nuts), little rancio. Bubbles are small and very lively. Good length.

(Disgorged in spring of 2005, 48% Pinot Noir and 52% Chardonnay) Golden yellow colour with a lovely maturing nose showing butter, hazelnuts and a touch of mocha coffee as the most dominant layers. '95/'96 Champagne Celebration (Casa Gill): This improved the more it opened. I think in-so-far as big house/very richly styled champagne is concerned, this probably fits my palate the best (once it is sufficiently aged, maybe, since I had an 00 last year that didn't really move me). We had this side by side with the 96 this time (and after the Pol, Bollinger and Veuve) and it was just fun to enjoy them side by side. Wines to just bask in. Wonderfully rich, with some nuttiness, some caramel, loads of citrus and toast, and great acidity carries the flavors well, so vibrant. Maybe a touch less put-together than the 96, but who cares. I cannot imagine what else I would want in aged champagne.

Wow, one of the wines of the night for me. Up there with the 96 I had last year. Glorious nose showing beautiful aged fruit, floral notes, the right amount of honey and nutty oxidative character. Complex medium body Champagne. Long finish. 🍇Assemblage of two grape varieties: 45% PN, 55% CH. My third time with this champagne, previously the 1990, and 1996. Certainly the best vintage of the three. Initially quite a bit of oak and smoke, but after half an hour or so, quite dry and fresh, with citrus. This has a long way to go, but is also great to drink today. From magnum.

A blend of 55% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs and 45% Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims, 9 years sur lattes. Level 7cm below the (firm) cork, but the wine seems none the worse. Intense but lively lemon yellow colour, lively mousse, very fine bead; beautiful nose needs a little time to open up, complex, white flowers and lime zest, mineral depth and yeasty complexity, white truffle and candied fruit; the palate is aerien and elegant in true Henriot fashion, but with incredible mineral power, intensity and drive, tightly wound and structured, refined and subtle flavours; complete and layered finish, spices and red apple, very good length. Feels quite young still; perfect bottles should last and develop for another 10-15 years with ease.

Despite a medium neck level the wine opened and persisted with a fine bead. Golden colour, very powerful nose of salted caramel and developed nutty Chardonnay. The palate is even stronger, with characters of almost burnt caramel toffee, almonds and chalk, quite developed but not over the hill. The finish has a slightly disparate intense fruit spice followed by tight acidity. A fascinating experience, many at our table loved it but a few found it almost too much! It will not benefit from longer cellaring.

Feels too young for a 20 y.o. champagne. Only at the very start of its maturity curve, wait for some 3-5 more years if you want to drink it when it has fully blossomed.
(Disgorged spring of 2007) Deep yellow colour and a wonderful nose showing less maturity than expected, yet a very delightful hint of chocolate hidden beneath the mineral driven tones of oysters, ocean and seashells. Very nice and intensive palate showing acacia honey and lemon with a long acidic finish. At twenty years I'd expected more development, but this just shows how wonderfully youthful the best 95's still are!

Nose: The nose is showing maturity, but it's more in the refinement with red apples, baked bread, honey notes, citrus, and some yeasty tones. There is excellent depth and poise to the nose with it also constantly revealing more as it opened up.
Taste: Full bodied with medium+ acidity. The structure is still very much there, but it more provides a spine and base with red apples, leesy tones, roasted nuts, baked breads, honey notes, and some yeast.
Overall: This was performing beautifully. It's moving into that mature range, but there is still a long way for it to go.

Definitely developed its secondary characteristics. Intense aromas of honey, followed by toasted coconut and hazelnut and the earthiness of mushroom. The strong honey aroma had me a little worried that this was past its peak. But the wine still has a lovely youthfulness, some acidity balancing the richness and fullness of the wine, honeyed nuts.

Have had this particular wine several times before and I am a fan. BUT, this bottle seemed to try just a bit too much! Lacking elegance in a way that was overwhelming. Good yellow color and a small but good mousse. Strong nose and taste of hazelnuts, brioche, yeast, grapefruit, toffee and oysters. Lots, too much, acid. medium aftertaste. Normally I like Champagne with our own Sushi. But this one didn't match. With it's acid it needs powerful food.

Taste: Medium/full bodied with medium+ acidity. This is getting into its maturity with well balanced tones of baked bread, brioche, honey, marmalade, and green apples.
Overall: This is really coming into its own. There is still some freshness to the tones while having a more mature take on the.

Charity Auction Dinner (The Farm): I finally get it! I am not a big champagne fan, but vintage champagne - wow! This was fantastic. Beautiful golden color in the glass. Almost no visible bubbles. The nose was brioche, vanilla, and yeast, but the yeast was moderate - not overpowering. Faint soft bubbles on the palate. Smooth and sharp. All around terrific. I could have had the whole bottle by myself. (5+14+18+8)

Alcohol :: 12% Roasted nut with caramel and perfume chrysanthemum, banana, sweet pear and earth. Seductive but I think it could offer better lift. Medium bodied, this has larger scale than the Julie that serve alongside as well as good depth. Started to enter secondary phase with good layer of complexity and very long, precise finish. The champagne from traditional big houses may be sweet when young due to the dosage but if u aged them and let the sweetness to mellow and integrated, magic will happen.
Day-3. From the remaining 30% in the bottle. Wow! The sweetness has toned down a lot and reveals excellent lift and focus. Still display a tad of sweet pear and banana notes but there is this citrus, green apple like liveliness cutting through the sweet core. This happened on the palate too, light and elegance thanks to the refreshing acidity backbone supported the not-so-fleshy-anymore bodied. The inner perfume lingering in the mouth and leads to the highly precise, mineral and saline infused finished. Delicious.

Had this 3 times now and once again this struck me as an Enchanteleurs that should have been drank young. While this is pleasant, it's not in keeping with its Tete De Cuvee designation. I have always found a slightly oxidative note which is a bit disturbing. It's possible that the bottles i had did not have the best storage somewhere along the line. With about 15-20 minutes there is a window of nice drink- ability but after another 20 minutes to half hr this starts to fade. For me definitely not on the level of the 90 or the 96 which leaves me a bit disappointed wishing for more from a bottle that's in a triple digit price.

The color was really beautiful with a light golden touch and the bobbles was really tiny in the glass witch almost made it look like an old montrachet! The nose was in the beginning all about mushrooms but this was not lasting and the lime/lemon shoved somewhat more after some air! The palet was intense and perfectly in balance between the fleshy fruit and the acid cutting right through at the perfect time! The finish was a bit one-dimensional but the one dimension was really nice! So all in all a really lovely champagne:-)

This is drinking exceptionally well at this point. Very elegant and fresh. It is showing interesting complexity on both nose and palate – some of them on the side of more developed secondary notes. The structure is very precise, although less sharp than the 1996. It has a less concentrated character than the 1996, but in place it carries more detail and complexity. The finish is medium++ I think this will age for many more years but can be enjoyed now as well.

2010 Masters of Wine Champagne Tasting (San Francisco, CA): Exceptional – mind blowing even! Rich golden color. Explosively full nose: brioche, lemon, smoky roasted nuts, and honey. Somehow, the nose manages to be elegant while fully open about the brute power that lies within this wine. Powerful rich and creamy mouthfeel with a full-bodied palate of lemon, vanilla, spice, almond, and rich toasty biscuit. Very long finish. Drinking much better than last year. A nice value, too, for vintage Champagne of this caliber. An incredible experience – one of the best Champagnes I’ve tasted all year!

when i got this in 2008, i said i wanted to see what it did in 5yrs. didn't quite make it that far. still very fresh, minerally, more apple acid than citrus. blossomy. very much like a good chablis with some chalkiness blending with the fruit. suprisingly not super dry though either. a great champagne for lovers of all styles.

Outstanding, no secondary characteristics yet, baked apple pie, peaches, slight brioche on the nose. As the wine opened up thru the course of the evening, it developed more depth. There is a very refreshing amount of acidity on the palate. This is great now and will continue to please for years to come.

Masters of Wine Champagne Tasting (San Francisco, CA): Stunning – my favorite Champagnes of the tasting! Light golden color. Moderate bead. Beautiful creamy nose showing brioche, lemon, and spice. Palate is decidedly towards the citrus side of the house with loads of fresh lemon, vanilla, spicy, and nuts. Long mesmerizing finish. This is a good example Champagne at its finest, but still with further room to mature, and is well worth the moderate price. Outstanding!

A reason to not drink the 2000 anything right now. The 1995 Cuvee of mostly Chardonnary, this champagne is impeccable. Outstanding, rich color with only mild bubble. The nose is so open with med toast and brioche but large ripe fruit. The first taste is really bright and expressive and leads to an ideal yet still acidic finish that builds slightly for a while. Overall, great. Worth the price of $115 retail.

ending the year with bordeaux (ward's apartment, chicago): nose: beautiful and succulent nose that is very pure and deep at the same time with lush tones of bread, brioche, vanilla mousse, fresh picked lemons, racy mineral tones, and nice round tones of roasted nuts. Much more complexity than the last tasting
taste: lush and smooth across the palate as it just cleanses the palate in a silky way with beautiful tones of brioche, baking spices, bits of peaches and white florals, vanilla mousse tones, and a nice roasted nut aspect that pokes its head out towards the end. The feel is like having a liquid cloud across your tounge
overall: very elegant and well balanced to the hilt. This bottle was just utterly singing and still posses ample acidity for further aging. The flavors and nose were very deep and they just worked in subtle harmony with a softer form of singing that was a real delight

Ok, I have had two bottles of this in a row. I must say that the wine has a bit of sea shell funkiness, a certain earthy powerful impact to it. Which is to say that I don't enjoy it all that much. Or maybe both the bottles I have had have been corked. Although it does express itself as far better than the souverain (which is not say much given that it is x2 to x3 the prices). More fillagree and finese.

I've been wanting to try this Champagne because I've started seeing it at auction as of late at some favorable pricing and I'm glad I did. Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout with moderate and steady beading. Nose and palate that leaned more towards the citrus end of the spectrum but did have some subtle notes of yeast as well. Bright acidity, medium to full body. Pretty good fruit. It's a keeper around the century mark or so. Drink or hold. I'd say score wise this wine was in the low to mid 90s, let's call it close to the WIML93 mark for the moment.

Roasted nut with caramel and perfume chrysanthemum, banana, sweet pear and earth.

Bottle bought in a supermarked in Evian:-)

The finish is medium++ I think this will age for many more years but can be enjoyed now as well.

taste: lush and smooth across the palate as it just cleanses the palate in a silky way with beautiful tones of brioche, baking spices, bits of peaches and white florals, vanilla mousse tones, and a nice roasted nut aspect that pokes its head out towards the end. The feel is like having a liquid cloud across your tounge
overall: very elegant and well balanced to the hilt. This bottle was just utterly singing and still posses ample acidity for further aging. The flavors and nose were very deep and they just worked in subtle harmony with a softer form of singing that was a real delight
