  • Gorgeous wine right from PnP! Beautiful notes of honey, orange spice, acacia flower, orange marmelade, Baked Apple- yellow and a sweet gala, almost cider like, sweet not tart lemon squares. apricot, medium acid, melted brown sugar. with some wet rock on the finish. Drink now as there is not enough structure to go the distance

  • Aubert single vineyards never disappoint. This one was in a fantastic spot. Maybe not quite peak yet, but closing in on it.

  • It's A Boy! Just kidding! (Mi Casa): Last bottle. Hitting all the right notes for me and I would guess, for most of the guests in attendance. Honey, baked apple pie with a flaky, buttery crust, lemon preserves. I am a big fan of Lauren. IMO, drink now.

  • Stylistic '18 blind (The Sumoba compound): N: Honeysuckle, white flowers, creamy yeast but rather light, and a fresh and subtle mint or eucalyptus flair. A note of slightly burnt honey, as if honey was used instead of brown sugar topping for a creme brûlée.

P: Generous entry of deep orchard fruits (yellow apples, prickly pears both soft flesh and crisp ones), a bit of dry straw, honey comb wax, and a trailing mineral streak. A rich upfront that wanes a little onto mid palate, then fresher onto the finish. Amazing now and could hold well into for another handful of years.

Awesome way to start a blind. This completely preps the palate for tasting, showing incredible flavors, waking the palate up, while not once weighing it down.

  • Near perfection for a white wine. A near-ethereal experience today. This wine is in the wheelhouse. Yellow peach and Asian pear, perfect minerality and acidity balanced with yellow fruit density. Finishes with a ridiculous amount of acidity and white pepper spice. This wine has turned my head with regard to Aubert chardonnay. As of today my favorite offering is the Hyde, but this wine turned my head to the Lauren which is typically the most expensive offering, and shows the power and prestige of the Lauren vineyard. Should have asked for more of this, darn it!!! Philip, help a brother out!! :) A beautiful bottle of wine, with a ton of life left in it. Managed somehow to keep this in the bottle for six years post vintage (how I'm not so sure). Shockingly I still have 3 more Aubert bottles from 2017 but this is my very last Lauren from the 2017 vintage!

  • California Chardonnay does not get much better than this. Just entering its drinking window. I’m going to wait 2-3 years before cracking another.

  • Beautiful golden color. Complex nose of pears, apples, buttered brioche, hazelnut cream, white flowers, sea spray, nutmeg and spices. Palate is full bodied with sweet orchard fruit penetrated by sharp acidity with notes of lemon peel, hazelnuts, white flowers and minerality. Everything in balance. Outstanding. Great vineyard!

  • As good as any chardonnay. Big bursts of ripe fruit, pear, apple and beautifully integrated.

  • Prior notes hold. My preference was towards the 17 Sugar Shack but this was a close second with CIX. Drink now or hold.

  • This wine borders on ethereal. This has to be the best western chardonnay I have had the pleasure of drinking. It is pure elegance, with layers upon layers of complexity. The intermingling of fruit & minerality is hard to describe adequately. Just embrace it for what it is.

  • Wild and Crazy Memorial Weekend - Sunday (Chris' Castle aka Melissa's Manor): Next to Marcassin, this is my favorite Chardonnay! This bottle did not disappoint! I always advocate 6-8 years of age on Aubert wines (Lauren is typically at the 8 year end). At 6, this wine is just starting to hit its stride. This wine shows a nice blend of stone fruit and tropical fruit, coupled with melon and pear and some citrus.....yes, this wine has it all going on! Add to that some river-rock and sweet toasted oak to compliment the acidity and you have one of the best Chardonnays out there! The only thing that stops me from rating this even higher, is I know it will still get better during the next few years! 96-97 now, with a positive upside.

  • Best of the World Wine Night (ex-Italy) (The csimm_M Estate): I love Aubert, and when I saw this making the rounds, it was all I could do not to put footprints on the other guests’ backs. I’ve been on the Aubert list for a few years, but it feels like I’m as far away from this particular cuvee as I am from It winemaker friend, and fellow guest Alex M’s cabs. While I suspect I’d have liked this even more with a bit more air, age and closer to room temp, this was still stunning, with a wildly complex of tart citrus, white orchard fruits, a smattering of stone fruits, spice, nuttiness, an almost White Burg chalkiness and the signature Aubert creaminess making for a wine with a delectable mouthfeel. I suspect that this would be wonderful with striped bass, roasted chicken or quail or any number of other things this side of A_M’s wagyu ribeyes, but it sure was great on its own. Not quite at Luc’s ‘16 CdC, but a solid beat of my CIX, even more so the VV Platt and the HdV. Expect that this is more likely to edge up than down in the years to come, but at any rate, it’s early drinking window for sure. 98-99+

  • Memorial Madness at Case de Chris y Melissa - Day 2 of 2: Oh how I love Aubert’s Lauren vineyard. I thought I would never love this style, but somehow this one hits for me. I agree with WBW and other TNs on this wine. This is maybe a tad behind the 18 for me, which is just mind blowing. I’ve had a couple vintages so far and it isn’t the proverbial Napa over oaked, buttery chardonnay that is often found in our grocery stores and Costcos. This wine is elegant and a bit restrained. This wine is more like a woman with minimal makeup on, wearing a simple backless dress. She isn’t trying too hard, but shows enough at first glance to captivate you and then when you get to know her, just sucks you in and almost has you wanting more.

  • Memorial Day Weekend, Day 2: The Great Gatsby: Aromas of honeyed cantaloupe with its gently bitter skins, honeycomb wax and the scent of a field wheat.

Awesome flavors of darker yellow fruits with a ripe and and deep delivery on the palate. Similar honeyed melons and bitter skins from the nose can be found here as well.

This was amazing. This was a very new style of giving for me. It was generous in fruit but was never big, intense with the flavors but never rich, had good weight but never heavy. Awesome treat, I see why this bottling is popular.

  • This is the best American Chardonnay I‘ve had in a while. Layered, intense, highly precise, matchstick notes to die for, no excess weight or excess sweetness, quite fresh… Superb from start to finish. Not lean, yes, not a linear Burgundy, true but this is quite amazing and as good as American Chardonnay can get. Aubert can be sometimes too sweet with not the right amount of acidity, but when it‘s all right, like this bottle, it’s just fantastic. 96/97pts

TN: Right from the go, the nose shows amazing, layered with matchstick, ripe orchard fruit and some fresh tropical notes. Intense, inviting and just great but the palate is on another level. First sip, goosebumps… intense matchstick, ripe orchard and hints of tropical fruit, smoke, some wet rocks as well as good lemon and citrusy core lending additional freshness beside the fine spine of acidity which easily cuts through the richness. While it‘s aromatically dense, it remains light and without any excess.

    Decanting: No decanting needed.

  • The wine has a nice hazy gold color with flavors of lemon zest, pear & melon. Aromas of spring flowers and slight vanilla. This wine is at it's drinking window and appears to be able to age easily for another 1-2 years. Unfortunately this was my last bottle of this vintage, however, I will watch future notes, please keep me informed.

  • A successful Aubert. Sometimes they can fly too close to the sun and end up a bit of a sweet, over alcoholic mess. This one was in a good spot. At Georgia James con Arroyo.

  • Opened pre dinner tableside by Joel.....my first vintage of the Lauren. This initially comes across as a little thin in the mouth, with less of a malo feel, lacking some depth but this improved quickly. I especially liked the ending which seemed to be some lemony citrus that acted on its own and went on for a good 30+ seconds after swallowing leaving that wonderful lemon component flush through the mouth, in every corner. Aubert wines are def something special. Thank you for sharing, Joel!

  • Light hazy yellow, gold color. Essence of Meyers lemons, ocean breezes, pears, green apples and honeysuckle. Layers of honeydew melons, lemon, green apples, Bosc pears and lemon grass. A terrific wine with a wonderful finish. Thank you Aubert.

  • My wife picked this to celebrate her first wine in 9months now that the baby is sleeping decent stretches at night.

Decanted a quick 30mins, then consumed from the decanter over the course of the evening. Best slightly warmer than cellar temp, as room temp brings out too much of the ABV. Undoubtedly the most powerful wine in the 2017 lineup (but that’s usually the case in other years too).

Deep, slightly hazy golden hue in the glass. Smells like classical Aubert with the lemon cream, sea salt and marzipan aromatics. The alcohol was noticeable the first hour on the finish, but it integrated over the following two hours. Opulent, as always, but classy. Perfect example of a big-time phenolic profile. Tropical. Grilled lemon, white peach, salted brown caramel dipped apple and plenty of baking spices, but the finish turns quite savory with honey roasted cashews. Decant this 2-4hrs if opening now, or wait 2-3yrs.

  • So disappointing! My wife and I are huge Aubert fans (buy everything offered each spring and fall release). Loved this wine when we first got it. Tonight, color is off, smell muted pear, heavier on the alcohol, flat, uninteresting, no depth at all. Decanted for 40 minutes and will give it a bit more time before pouring it down the drain. Stored in perfect conditions so I know it’s not me. Seriously hoping this is an anomaly and not indicative of the rest of our ‘17’s. One of the things that attracted us to Aubert was its ability to age. Seriously hoping this is an anomaly!!!

  • (at Ritz - Naples) This really is fantastic wine. White fruits, floral, incredible density - yet balanced and inviting. Youthful but beginning to spread across the palate. Serious. A sip wakes up all senses. Wow. (96)

  • Even better than the last bottle of 12/11/2020, with expressive pineapple to join the white peach and lemon curd of the the last bottle. Outstanding.

  • This is a WA 100 pointer. I can easily see it reaching perfection in another 5 years. However, it’s darn good right now on a pop and pour. I will let the bottle rest over the next two hours but on opening the nose is melted butter, apricot, grilled pineapple. Palate is more citrus with lemon meringue and some toasted coconut notes. Love it. Probably too early but nice to sample these wines along the maturity curve. Long glorious window ahead.

  • Similar to prior note after a 1 hour SO, outstanding but still young (unusual for a 17), drink or preferably hold

  • Decanted and consumed over four (4) hours. Displays intense aromas of green apple, white pear, peach and apricot with notes of dairy cream, lemon zest, ginger and roasted almond. Full bodied and richly textured; warm flavors of aforementioned fruit are superbly balanced by energetic acidity and underlying base minerality of crushed stone. Elevated viscosity provides velvet textured presence that surrounds the palate leading to long, lingering, lip-smacking finish. As often is the case with Aubert oak use is beautifully integrated. Delicious now but will certainly drink well for a decade or beyond.

  • (at Peppervine - Charlotte). This was absolutely stunning and developed magic over the course of 90 minutes. Zesty, rich, full and complex. Not heavy. Drinking well but will only get better over the next 5 or so years. Very put together and impactful. Great. (95)

  • A really beautiful chardonnay. Opened and let sit for an hour in the fridge. Recorked and took it to a seafood byob. White flowers and hints of pear on the nose. The palate was white flowers, lemon curd, melon and pear. The finish was amazing with just a touch of white pepper. Served alongside almond crusted Chilean Sea Bass.

  • Wow! This is the best wine I have ever had! Beautiful lemon color in glass. Complex aromas of lemon zest, apple candy, flint, herbs, field flowers, brioche and a hint of petrol and forest floor. Medium+ body, but what a perfect mouthfeel! Soft, yet still has enough acidity to keep the wine perfectly balanced! Finish is over a minute of deliciousness!! Exemplary!

  • WIML93

    Tasted non blind.

  • This nervy and layered Chardonnay is drinking beautifully right now, with an incredible texture that manages to be citrusy, creamy, and lively all at once. I suspect that this will improve and integrate even more in the next 12-18 months, as it still needs a few hours of air to shed the rough edges of youth. Like its predecessors, the 2017 Lauren combines power and elegance in a way that few, if any, California Chardonnays can.

Light yellow in color and full in body, the wine offers aromas that unfold like a cool summer evening on the ocean, with notes of lemon peel, grapefruit, honeydew melon, and salt water. The flavors are luscious but precise, with tastes of golden delicious apple, grilled pear, creme brûlée, and sliced almond, with a dense and lifted finish that goes on and on. 15% alcohol. Decant two hours. 96+ at the moment, with upside in 2023 and later. What a wine.

  • A really beautiful chardonnay. Opened and decanted for about an hour. White flowers and hints of pear on the nose. The palate was white flowers, lemon curd, melon and pear. The finish was amazing with just a touch of white pepper . Served with oven roasted bronzini. A great pairing

  • Very nice wine that is a mix between the Napa Chardonnay style and the white Burgundy style. No real "buttery" flavor, but not highly acidic like the Burgundies. It is a very nice, pleasant wine with notes of pear, green apple, and spice, but also notes of lemon and cinnamon. It is a very nice Chardonnay. Worth $200? I don't think so, but I don't drink much white wine. 94 points.

  • Double decanted as recommended. Just a wonderful wine. Can taste the lemon and grapefruit notes but with an underlying almost sweetness like Creme brûlée or almond paste for balance. • Ripe, almost sweet fruit - melon, lemon, pear, honeysuckle and flowers. There's a tinge of mineral and brine underneath all the baby fat. The wine is delicate, with a slightly oily texture. Still very primary and not showing much oak at all. It is got a good life ahead.

  • Incredible complexity directly on first pour. Soft floral notes with citrus on the nose followed by a delightful viscous mouthfeel full of meyer lemon, lime zest, with a hint of brioche to assure the profile is not overtly dry or tart. The finish is significant. One of the best chards in the past few years.

  • As the Eastside 2017 was such a stunning wine at a dinner a few days earlier (rated conservative 97 points), the expectations were high for this Lauren. It certainly did not disappoint although it had not the intensity, concentration and sharpness of the Eastside. But all great Aubert traits are there: high complexity, constant development in the glass and weightless structure. On the nose rather in the 93/94 range while the palate is certainly on a 96+ level.

TN: Medium expressive and intense nose with finely defined aromas of toasted oak, smoke, minerality and slightly tropical fruit. Much more interesting and intense palate with additional aromas of citrus, crushed rocks and with time more and more salty aromas and a tad more core sweetness. Perfectly fine and light structure and texture with an immensely pleasurable creamy texture without being heavy or cloying. Medium+ length and finish.

Decanting: As always, these wines are good from the start but develop with time in the glass. I would ideally decant it for at least 1 hour.

  • Winebar [1 Rosé, 3 Whites, 8 Reds, & 6 *shared* bottles] from 01/17/20 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Dr. Tom, I'm *gobsmacked* @ your GENEROSITY in sharing this recently rated 100 pt wine! )

“Our 1st Estate Chard is named after our daughter, Lauren. Located in what we call the ‘golden hills’ of Forestville, the Lauren Vyd features our favorite clonal selections of Chard, & typically produces the most concentrated wine in the repertoire. The gravelly Goldridge soil series is unique and adds purity & lovely perfumes to this wine.”

N: Butter, but with a minerality & hints of lemons, poss spice; Intensity lurking?

P: MF body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish oak/frt off set by an ELEGANT acidity which SEAMLESSLY evolves into a very LONG, BALANCED finish with a BIT of very, VERY slight bitterness which @ least currently, should be a + with food. VERY well crafted for now & through '22™, assuming the bitterness doesn't worsen. 15.0% ABV; My EXC/EXC+. 100 pts WA (11/27/19), 98 Vinous (Galloni), & 94 WS (Marcus, 7/31/19)!

™I'm undoubtedly being VERY conservative with this date, but as I've had but 1 Aubert Chard with as much as 4 yrs of age on it... ;)

  • Once again a stellar performance of a young Aubert. Awash with oak flavours, smoke, popcorn and saline mineral notes. A touch of sweetness from licorice and vanilla. A combination of both tropical and citric fruit. Over time the sweet core becomes more assertive. Intense and dense with broad shoulders easily carrying the weight. Lots of fresh acidity on the palate but with a creamy texture. A long finish with salty complexity. Kept 2 glasses in the bottle for the next day. Just as great still on day 2 with the fruit a bit more green pear or green apple than tropical. Looking at recent vintages, for me this was on a par with CIX 2016 and Larry Hyde & Sons 2016 - all of them outstanding.

  • First glimpse at the 2017 vintage and Aubert managed again to deliver a stunning performance. Incredible complexity (#1 trait in ALL Auberts), intense aromatics, embedded in an amazingly seductive texture and balanced by an expressive minerality and superb freshness. That's Aubert. As said before: Aubert highly likely produces the finest Chardonnays in California. Two remarks: a) Despite the intense terroir expression and good freshness these wines have a sweet core which might not be overly liked by purists and b) I don't believe that these have a very long live. They should be drunk young (first 5-7 years). This intensity and creamy structure need a high and laser-sharp acidity. While the acidity is (quite) perfect in young Auberts, it probably is not big enough to stand the test of time (extended ageing). 97+

TN: Citrus and pear fruit, very fine toasty aromas, very strong minerality component with wet rocks and very intense salty notes on the end. Some herbal aromas and more white and yellow fruit. Pure and fresh for the most part and as a sweet component mid palate. Nicely complex, very precise and intense embedded in a wine with a very fine and fresh structure with a very silky texture. Very good length.

Decanting: No decanted but it got better with a bit of air. I would decant it for 30 to 60 minutes.
