Mature nose with leather, caramel, some cherries and red fruit, as well as a good amount of oak. There's a mint/menthol note on the palate with a hint of cocoa and generally quite bright / high acidity. Medium finish. Not sure what to think about this, it tasted decades older than it should and didn't really speak of Burgundy. I actually guessed old, classic Napa Cab... Oops...

There is a lovely purity to the nose with red fruits, red cherries, raspberries, violets, rose petals, strawberries, tobacco leaf, spice notes, and some bits of earth. There is a more nuanced side to this with very good depth and poise. The Medium bodied feel shows off more of that poise with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. This likely could still use a few more years to hit that next level (if it will get there).

I’m a supporter of this wine. It’s certainly robust and bursting with red fruit while mixing in a serious tannic spine that suggests more aging to be a good thing. Right now this is an exuberant teen with a wild side. Pleasant but bound to improve with age. Depth is impressive. Continues to improve with air. I may be underrating the potential here. (92+)

Les Saint Georges, one of the premier cru that has the potential to be upgraded to Grand Cru. On the Southside of Nuits St Georges, closer to Gevrey, which give it a more full-bodied type compare to the Northside. Earth, red cherry, black tea, spices.

Chez W, decanted 20 minutes, very translucent dark garnet, red fruit driven with some earth, spice and meat, medium bodied with decent length and persistence, quite lacy, attractive sour tinge to more black fruit on palate, stylistically closer to Freddy Mugnier Marechale than Gouges, drinking nicely with decent life ahead for an 06. Not much has changed from 6 years ago. Slight bricking hue, bright cherries, black tea, earthiness. Well balanced and a nice drink but hasn’t evolved beyond that. Another 5-10 years before the next bottle.

Served blind this bottle had been opened the night before we were told. Visually looked developed and it felt super ripe on the nose and palate. I questioned if it was a Burgundy. It felt more like an Italian red coming in at 15% alcohol. This wasn't for me I must admit. Some interesting nice maraschino cherry notes on the nose but ultimately simply too much.

This has shed it's youthful exuberance and become mild and even straight forward. But it's also flawless, fruit-sweet, and beautifully textured, with red fruits, hot iron, orange rind, and smoke. Feels like a long plateau for drinking any time over the next five years. -2023

NSG Tasting - "North vs South" Double decanted and then let evolve in the glass over 3 hours. Plenty of new oak on this but it is not over the top. The most modern of the 6 wines. Depth of flavor is noticeable. Very different style than the Gouges and Chevillon in terms of winemaking. By hour 3 this was in a groove. Structure to last another 10 years plus easy. Really nice stuff here at the price. Can drink now though if you have time to let it unwind.

This showed as I expected. This producer seems to consistently turn out exceedingly well balanced wines with polished tannins. A beautifully textured spicy, red fruited Burg with intriguing earthy notes you'd expect from one of NSG's best vineyards. I could drink this again! While drinking superbly now this would be fun to try again at age 15 - 20 when some mushroom and forest floor may show up. 92pts+

Drinking very well. Rose and tar on a classic nose, plum red with a deep palate with tart cherry, more tar, some savory notes. Great balance. A bit thin on the finish. An outstanding wine in this vintage, and yet another 06 that seems to be hitting on all cylinders right now.

Took about 2. Hours for the wine to drop an acidic , over ripe version of itself. Opened this , had a few sips, and took the kids for a swim. Good call.
Came back to a nicely balanced wine with macerated cherry, strawberries, dark an earthy, nice loamy turned earth aroma. Coffe also showed up . The palate was well balanced and was pleasing. Solid and complex.

Red Burgs (Wayzata, MN): Dark red color with mildly bricked margin. 45 min decant; 2oz pour over 30 minutes. This was very good with the nose bringing light earthiness, baked cherry, dark red fruits, sou bois, wood spice, and iron. The palate has iron, cherry, earth, light-medium bodied, tangy, fine tannins and a spiced medium finish. My #3 WOTN, 91+pts.

Young tasting with slight bricking, shows a hint of complexity at this stage with notes of black tea and Asian spice. Quite fresh and less burly than I expected from a Les Saint George. Quite enjoyable already but definitely requires more patience.

This is a very nice mid weight Nuit with penetrating flavors of red and dark fruit, Asian spice, earth, sous bois, white pepper and firm, grippy, leathery tannins on the fairly long finish. The last time I tasted this, a year or so ago, I called this a feminine wine. Today, however, I think this has a definitely masculine flair. Quite nice and quite delicious after a couple of hours in the decanter, but really started to show well after 4 or 5 hours of air.

take this review w/ a grain of salt as i am a burgundy novice. light ruby color, nose and palate of black cherry, cherry pit, tobacco leaf, and beef. relatively long finish which may be dominated by a slight bitterness ? of oak. i'm used to drinking high-end cali pinot, and know i shouldn't compare, but i'd rather drink something w/ more robust fruit.

Loved this. Starts out thin and delicate but puts on considerable weight in bottle after an hour. The complexity develops as well with some time. Charming. Impressive for 2006 - I've had Grand Cru 2006's that weren't half as good as this.

Really superb wine, beautiful nose of black cherry, smoke and undergrowth. Young still with plenty of structure but drinking well for a 2006. Real class on the palate and persistent finish. Another excellent wine from this producer and further underlines the Grand Cru quality of this vineyard. When will it be elevated I wonder?

To us, this is the epitome of a wannabe intellectual with a severe lack of muscles on his slim body. Fantastically promising nose with earth, minerality and fine, strong streaks of elegant oak. It enters the mouth with promise but immediately thins out and demonstrates all things watery. Acidic and a little long finish, and thin... Went well with especially the wagyu steak - but watery. As we don't make excuses for other wines, we will not do it for Burgs either. The score reflects our honest opinion on the qualities of this wine, as objectively as possibly. As it was had today. The glass was not emptied. Glass from glass-btl. Lunch menu at L'Effervescence in Tokyo 78p, below average. If it wasn't for the fabulous nose, our score would have hit the 60’ies.
Decanted 2 hours and rebottled. Dark cherry fruit with notes of sous bois, mushroom and earth. Very refined mouthfeel with a great balance between fruit and acidity. Moderately long finish with manageable tannins. Drinking very well now with some aeration but holds great promise for the future. Pretty good value at $50.

Double decanted for about 3 hours or so and drinking beautifully tonight. Fairly feminine, sweet red fruit, earth and spice with good depth and heft. The tannins are still abit on the firm side, but they're fairly fine grained and don't overpower the finish. Quite nice.

On the nose a very earthy, maybe even the "barnyard" aroma I've heard kicked around a bit which almost gives that initial thought as to whether it's right or not. The flavor defies this notion, opening with bright cherry flavor against a smooth and easy feeling palate. Not much weight here, light on its feet but pleasant. Definitely too highly priced. Enjoy.

This is already drinking pretty well, cherry fruit with no edgy tannins for a smooth medium length finish. However, there was a stewed tomato and bell pepper quality in the finish that muddled up the wine for me, a bit flabby.

Popped and poured. Tight nosed to start but opened up quickly, giving a pleasant, stemmy, spice quality along with black cherry fruit. The palate is still a bit firm, with aggressive tannin and hard acids that are unyielding and angular at this point. That said, there's a good combination of ripe black and red fruits, which I think should hold up to all that structure. Once this wine settles down, it should be a beauty. I'll wait another 2-3 years to open another. 89-92.

This was so green and stemmy on the first pour that I almost put it aside and opened something else. I'm guessing there were stems in here -- according to Burghound this domaine destems some wines and ferments others whole cluster on a case-by-case basis, although it doesn't mention what treatment this wine got. Either way, the first glass tastes sort of like a cross between a wine heavily influenced by the stems (it actually reminded me of a young Rhys) and a more aggressive kind of green not totally dissimilar to a greenie-tainted 2004, which is why I was afraid this might be destined to go down the sink. After maybe two hours in a decanter, though, it picked up a level of delicacy that would hardly have seemed within the realm of possibility on the basis of how the wine showed early on. It remained somewhat spinal but fanned out nicely. I'm not sure how this will turn out -- if it loses some fruit sweetness it will definitely go through a patch that's even rougher than any stage of its current showing, but it could turn out to be a very nice LSG in the end.
Alot of red fruit, some soft earthy undertones with quite abit of caramel. The finish is short, but overall this is a very Bice bottle of wine. Picked up a bit more depth and personality on day two. Quite nice.

Getting the barest hint of cherry cola on the nose, which is otherwise predominantly black fruit with some forest floor. The palate is mostly dark berry with some subtle hints of red fruit with an umami undertone throughout. This wine is med bodied and needed a couple of hours in the decanter to open and stilll seemed to be abit tight, but was still a very nice bottle of wine that is drinking nicely now even though it seems to be abit young still. Would have scored it higher if the finish wasn't abit clipped.

Perhaps more mono-directional some some of its more distinguished neighbours this wine still greets you with a strong and heady mix of cherry, orange blossom and honey. The body was heavier that I might have expected and offered a sweet honey and fruit compote with hints of oolong tea and cedar. I think this wine could use a few more years in the cellar but is still a lovely and easy drinking wine all the same.

Drinking very well. Rose and tar on a classic nose, plum red with a deep palate with tart cherry, more tar, some savory notes. Great balance. A bit thin on the finish. An outstanding wine in this vintage, and yet another 06 that seems to be hitting on all cylinders right now.

Popped and poured. This was singing from the moment the cork was popped. Darker fruit than the '06 Ponsot (Alouettes). Drinking very well right now, but should hold or improve for awhile longer.

Terrific Les St Georges in the making here. Has the enveloping NSG robe and should be awesome with another 5yrs under its belt. Spicy blackberry right now with decent minerality.

This is an excellent Burg. Sweet cherries, cranberries, vanilla, mushrooms, and dirt. Very pure fruit. Good acidity and just-right tannin structure. Wish that I'd boughten more at the time of purchase.

Thought I drank this a few years ago. Nice re-discovery!

Drunk over two days, excellent both days. Still youthful with time left, but in a nice place. Nice nose of dark cherry and leather. Palate of dark cherry and tar notes, with good acidic balance and integrating tannins. Long and clean on the finish.

take this review w/ a grain of salt as i am a burgundy novice. light ruby color, nose and palate of black cherry, cherry pit, tobacco leaf, and beef. relatively long finish which may be dominated by a slight bitterness ? of oak. i'm used to drinking high-end cali pinot, and know i shouldn't compare, but i'd rather drink something w/ more robust fruit.

Lunch menu at L'Effervescence in Tokyo
78p, below average.

Quite nice.

Med bodied with sweet red fruit, spice and earth. Nice depth and richness to the fruit with some green sous bois elements. The tannins are fine and chalky on the fairly long finish. This is drinking very nicely today. Opened but not decanted for about three hours, then drunk over the next four hours
