Given the multilple datapoints of Leflaives this evening, the first whiff of this had most of us screaming Leflaive. Best bouquet amongst the Leflaives tonight with lemon rind, jasmine, orange peel and toasted spices followed by white peaches and kaffir lime in spades on the palate. Fantastic depth and precision and drinking really well, as are most of the 07s whites I've had that were not premoxed.

Lovely. Needed 20-30 mins to open up and then it had everything you want in a Leflaive. Paired nicely with the pink and white prawns as well as squid pasta. Came together nicely and is the best Pucelles I have had recently.

When we opend the bottle we got a lot of tropical fruit and very visible toffee - later the nose was more very ripped pears and hints of oxidation. On the palette you get very visible lemon, ripped pears and mature apple - and also toffee - also a tone of wet stone . We have medium acidity and a very nice balance - good long aftertaste - that staying in your mouth - this is clearly a top wine that is drinking very well giving you a very nice feeling in your mouth - we are discussing 95 and 96 - and are ending on a very large 95.

Out of magnum this is a wine at peak in every way. The fruit is still fresh though it has depth and complexity in layers of mineralality and spice. Grand Cru concentration of lush fruit with a zesty spice of acidity.

Fun with Pucelles and Amoureuses (Hughes House - Chicago IL): From magnum. Rich apple and pear with bits of peach and honey, alongside so much floral and savory spice character. so much here, this kept getting better and better for many hours. Best ever for a wine I've enjoyed many times in the past decade. WOTN.

Pnp, golden in color. Floral aroma, hint of flint and stone fruits. Massive concentration here, acidic is high but floral elements helped to provide a lovely finish to the wine, and seems it could spend more time in cellar barring risk of premox.

Holiday lunch with many magnums (Black Salt): Coming after the Comtes Lafon Meursault-Charmes, this was clumsy and disappointing. Indeed, coming from a magnum - and a more recent vintage - this wine was noticeably more evolved in both color and taste. While not bad at all, one expects (much) more from the producer (and price). The palate was indeed rich and dense, but lacked the balance of the preceding wine, and showed just a touch of hazelnut. The fruit was there however and just having it alone, it would be fine enough with white fish in a cream sauce for example or seared scallops with chanterelles.

A lost Friday afternoon gathering – 96 Krug mag, 99 Fourrier CSJ, blind CDB flight and etc. (Blacksalt, Washington DC): En magnum, not premoxed but a bit dull, especially for a Pucelles. Ripe yellow fruit driven nose, apple juice, apple pie, sweet spices, honey and strong mineral. Quite dense, deeply toned, bright acidity that sticks out a bit, strong limestone mineral and a deeply toned medium finish with strong mineral at the end. Slightly cloying and a bit advanced though not premoxed. It is still enjoyable enough but considering its lofty price, avoid! As a side note, the 12 Pucelles and Batard tried recently was very fresh and energetic.

Initially served too cold, but as it warmed this really flourished. Delicate floral aromas with a light sweet lime fruit note. Nice pure stony white fruit. Good density with a cut of nervous acid makes this quite good. Chewy and dry quartz-like minerals with subtle lemon citrus edge. Gained good weight with time in glass and showed impressive freshness with no signs of oxidation. No rush to drink this up.

Big Burgundy (Kevin and Vicki's house): I love this style of chardonnay. The mouthfeel is oily rich but it doesn't seem heavy. Mouth-coating and light. A good dollop of minerality. Some tangy orange, but mostly lemon. It finishes with some spice. The balance is amazing and I love the oily viscous nature of it.

Largely agree with R&Lers notes. This was the most fully realized of three great white Burgs. Very precise, balanced with excellent lift and elegance. Super classy fruit and PM minerality. My co white of the night along with the '02 Ruinart. Same btl as R&Rlers.

Big Time Burgundy (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Light gold color. PNP, drank 1 glass over an hour. This was simply beautiful. This really has everything i want in a chard; exquisitely balanced, great purity, lemon oil texture with an amazing weightlessness on the palate. The flinty minerality is so well defined and folds into the lemon, tangerine, and orchard fruits. The fruit is not in your face, but is there in such a nice way, delivering nuance and grace. There' a more subtle spice on the nose and palate as well. This was evolving continuously over the hour. Grace, class, and beauty. Wow, guess that's why it got 9 of 10 first place votes for white WOTN. The table talk also suggested this was the overall WOTN as well.

Quite a few friends visited for the actual birthday sipping ’n snacking event at home. The 24 previous days and the next five days only warm-ups and warm-downs, respectively. Whew, getting old is hard work…but we try to do it with style!
Brown tinted yellow on the eye is exceedingly attractive. We think our expectations will be met or exceeded! A slightly floral nose with additional aromas of citrus, vanilla and smokey-toast. Think mature Sophia Loren essence. Nice balance with toasted nuts, dried peaches and honey-caramel butter. Oh, wow, the range of this radiant Chardonnay reminds us of Sam Smith's jaw-dropping Writing's On The Wall...runs the gamut. Long, lingering and pleasantly dry finish. Barely legal now, this young gun will lay-down for another 15+ years...patience is a tempting virtue to which we happily submitted! We did not get a snapshot, but Buddy our Beagle absolutely loved this wine...the little lick that we allowed him!

Magnum (Mostly) White Dinner (GT Fish & Oyster - Chicago IL): Magnum. Stone fruit aromas with lots of spice and floral hints, some of everything you want. Needs plenty more cellar time to reach its full potential.

La Paulée de New York: Vertical Tasting (Colicchio & Sons - New York NY): Tasting. My favorite of the 07-08-09 vertical. Floral start with stone fruit aromas. Intense, concentrated bold citrus flavors with boatloads of acidity run through the palate. The wine is focused and clean and the texture is dense and the structure is delicate. Just a wonderful wine and beautifuly elegant. Initially completely closed. Later opens up somewhat, but in the end it is clear that this is going through a grumpy phase or something like that and is not very expressive. Based on this sample, it's hard to say where this is heading to. A disappointing showing.

Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant Burgundy Tasting (Ferry Plaza, San Francisco): Definitely a 2007, brighter acidity, stone and minerals for miles. more tightly wound up, with hints of flowers, lemon zest, lime, saline, and a slight hint of pomelo. White Burgundy vs.... New Zealand Chardonnay!?; 11/4/2009-11/5/2009 (Marche Moderne, Costa Mesa, CA): Hallelujah this wine is a blessing from the heavens. The nose is still tight but it's giving up powerful peach creme and deep expressive stone fruit. But what really impresses on this wine is the gorgeous palate. The flavor is really concentrated and rich and is accompanied by gorgeous acidity and minerality. The wine just saturates your mouth with its dense powerful layers with copious amounts of lemon, apple, pineapple and a hint of earth on the back. Super long finish that goes on and on and on of mouth smacking fruit and a light wood note. Still a baby but it's already giving up so much and I can imagine it's only going to do more

Initially completely closed. Later opens up somewhat, but in the end it is clear that this is going through a grumpy phase or something like that and is not very expressive. Based on this sample, it's hard to say where this is heading to. A disappointing showing.

An appealing brass yellow in colour with an elegant nose of lime and honeysuckle all under a minerally frame. Medium plus body with a delicate balance and a slight astringency.

La Paulée de San Francisco - Grand Tasting (Westin St. Francis - San Francisco CA): Tasting, brief note. Very much like I recall when first tasted late last year. Both fat and lush, while vibrant and energetic. A superb 1er.

Mouth puckering acidity on the back end but never goes too sour, excellent but needs time.

Domaine Leflaive Tasting and Dinner (Knightsbridge - Northbrook IL): Tasting, brief note. Very good vintage for Pucelles. Balances its typical fat, lush and sexy character with the great energy and tension of the 2007 vintage into a sensational wine.

Domaine Leflaive Dinner (Chicago, IL): More muted nose, showing some sulfur. Full but really balanced. Lots of power. Super tense, with a fine grained, almost powdery finish. Really nice.
