En magnum, in perfect shape. Medium expressive nose displaying generous yellow fruit, apple, apple pie, a hint of lemon curd, brioche, a hint of white flowers and limestone. There is a hint of dirty damp cellar. Very good concentration, generous yellow fruit, elegant and energetic, medium fine generous mousse, bright acidity, strong mineral, and a medium to long generous yellow fruit driven finish. The finish is bone dry. hoping I am for a bit more fine mousse.

From magnum. Majority pinot noir. PNP into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Fruit” day): Pale straw golden that is almost slightly rose-like, fine mousse observed.
Golden apples. Pinot-driven and very nice ripe fruits. White florals. Some sea salt saline minerality notes.
Very nice balance. More youthful than the normal bottle tasted before.

30 minutes upon opening: Broader spectrum of fruits now, quite airy but good structure. Upgrade to 93-94 points.

A massive, oaky and oxidative wine with a big concentration and a long finish. But for me seems unbalanced and dare I say, a bit of a mess, and I don't see this evolving positively in the future, even though it did improve slightly over the course of 2 hours.
I'm a huge fan of Egly's blanc de Noirs, but so far not of his vintage wines. This was the second time tasting the 2002 but this time I had given it an additional 4 years of age in the cellar.
93 points for the experience of drinking something this unique and different, but not a rebuy.

Inglorious Batards (Noreetuh restaurant, Manhattan, NY): Right from the first whiff you knew this would be a sledgehammer of a wine - amazing acid, drive and cut. Sour like yogurt. Apple and bruised apple, chalk and tart lemon. Wicked on the palate with tons of lemon, minerals. This wine really burns right now - it's totally wound and mostly potential but the material is all there. Probably 16-16.5+/20 (with 17-17.5/20 potential.) Check back in 15 years? Thanks Sam!

In line with my previous notes this year, same batch of wine - 2012 disgorgement. Modest oxidative and yeasty, bready, baked apples, raspberry, and cherry jam on the nose, on the palate, this bottle seems a bit fresher than previous bottles, it is rich but with solid acidity and minerals, making it attractive. Drank it over two days, the wine showed ever better on second day. It is certainly more a “wine” than a “ champagne”. It is 70% pinot noir and 30% Chardonnay, spent 106 months on lees, very low dosage (probably zero)

Pretty much in line with my previous note, same batch of wine, disgorged in May 2012. Rich, intense, but still young. Chalk and citrus. Lightly leesy. Nuts and brioche. Seems full and broad but then hits you with a blast of acid on the finish. Out of 750 ml bottle this will drink for years ahead. Fine bubbles, and lots of them. Very good. I won’t touch my last bottles for at least another 5 years. May 2013 disgorgement and 118 months on lees.

Disgorged in May 2012. On the nose, quite mature, yeasty and extremely nutty, roasted pinenut, almond, honey cashew, and strong minerals, on the palate, very complex, technically felt like a white burg with some age, citrus peel, honey and jammy yellow flowers, exotic spices and good minerals. Acidity was relatively high tone but I really enjoyed it.

Upon opening a small pop, so I was worried. The wine was quite mature, but had great stuffing. Notes of roasted caramel and rich nougat. On the palate, larger scaled champagne, bubbles still present but not much vigor due to its age. Provenance on this bottle was good, so I chalk this up I'm not the biggest fan of mature champagne, but it was good for what it was and all the ingredients were solid. It was a very good wine.

Med to pale yellow with fine bubbles. Honey, caramel, yeast, ripe pear. Med conc on palate as compared to Jacques Selosse VO which is more intense and punchy. Just very light sweetness here made this wine easily enjoyable too. Pinot fruit and spice lingered at finish. This is value for money.

Light golden colour. Powerful nose with ripe red apples, some peach and ripe pear with a bit of preserved fruit notes, honey, spice, and a rather discrete and well integrated oak barrel note. 9 years on the lees, disgorged summer 2012. Medium yellow colour. Inticing scents of mature red apples, butter and a subtle touch of oak treatment. Fruit disappoints on the palate whereas the acidity drives a fairly smooth taste, albeit not of a great length right now. Gives an over-all young impression and a bit one-dimensional and should improve. The acidity has prepared it for a long journey. Revisit in 5 years!

Breathtakingly good Champagne which balances great freshness with incredible richness. The nose offers citrus, brioche, roasted hazelnut, white flowers and minerals. The palate is deep and broad (suggesting this is a food Champagne) though has incredible clarity, detail and freshness. Very long. Perfect now but no hurry as this will last for some years to come. Just decide whether you want the freshness now or more depth and nuttiness later.... Superb!

Classic hay color with a lovely mouse and fine bead. As always, a fairly vinous Champagne. Very much Borgogne like wih rich ripe fruit and plenty of balancing minerality and acidity. I typically think of this as Meo-Camuzet of Champagnes. Not overt leeseiness or oxidaion. Just plenty of fruit and density. Excellent but youthfull and a bit primary at its first decade. Very drinkable now but will be even beter in another decade.

Great mousse, the colour have a tone of amber. Look a little bit oxidiced, but the bottle is in perfect shape. On the nose this champagne offers apricot, melon, citrus, bread, walnut, and a hint of crushed stone/seashells. On the palate it offers a wine in total balance, yet it has some years before it shines. But all the pieces are there. Great acidity in perfect harmony with the fruit. And the fruit contains a lot of candied fruit, apricot, citrus and bread. I really love the mineral here. It's a fresh wine in a darker yet feminim style. Nice body, a little bit meaty, yet feminim. Long taste. Lovely aftertaste! Totally beautiful! This champagne reminds me of Julliette Binoche :-)
I enjoyed this champagne in the kitchen at "Chez Fitz".

Exactly what I like about Egly-Ouriet. Great concetrated citrus fruits and green melon. Still young and powerful with a nice bead but not sense of brioche, stiring of lees or oxidation. Beautiful clean concentrated fruit picked at the optimal ripeness for a classic Champagne. Very representative of the great 2002 vintage. This is not yet close to maturity and has many years ahead to gain complexity. Probably merits a higher score with further development in bottle.

Buono, fruttato, fresco, sapido, bolla fine, leggero dosaggio e legnetto di affinamento, ma ben integrato.

Fresh with sharp acidity, serving temp can be a little bit higher than normal champagne. Need half an hour to breathe to let the aroma develop. critus, lemon, zest, mineral and ripe apple. Good mouthfeel and go well with Japanese food. Long finish.

Ripple and Ridonculous Wines (Ripple - Cleveland Park - Washington, DC): Intense, brioche, white tea, lots of green and yellow apple, toasted almond. Youthful, bright, brisk, oceanic, holding its weight well with the intense acid and bracing minerals. Hesitant though, you can tell it has much more to show. From magnum.

Wonderful showing; rich, complex, notes of apples, vanilla, minerals, pear, all in great harmony. Degorc. feb. 2011. This is ready now, but will certainly keep. #celebratingcontractsgalore

Another amazing Champagne. Beautiful aromatics of raspberries, small forest strawberries, a touch of nuts, minerals, ripe lime and some apple. Overall very complex. It’s medium-full bodied and dense but without any heaviness, has high acidity and a very long finish. An explosive wine that combines power with elegance and finesse.

Baked pear and apple with lots of minerality. Nice balance as this is broad and rich but still quite lively and fresh. Still pretty tight and youthful. Impressive stuff. Hold off on opening any more for a while. 93+

Light golden colour. Powerful nose with ripe red apples, some peach and ripe pear with a bit of preserved fruit notes, honey, spice, and a rather discrete and well integrated oak barrel note. Palate with powerful concentration, yellow and red apples, some peach, spice, honey, good acidity and mineral. Quite a bit of power, rather approachable now but can probably develop. 93(+) p.

Limited note. Honeyed apple core with a nutty finish. I thought this was very similar to '98 VC LGD.

Vin Chicago Holiday Champagne Tasting (Chicago, IL): Tasting, brief note. Big fruit aromas and flavors, with apple, pear, strawberry all coming through. Clearly showing Pinot Noir nuance. Very good power and length, more interesting and complete than I recall from when last tried a couple of years ago.

Lite lik Krug GC (dracks parallellt)- bokna äpplen, ek, karamelliserat, smörigt - men med mindre koncentration och lite svulstigare fruktighet.

Smooth and classic, yeasty and will need more time - with more age, it will show a higher score.

Golden yellow color, nice yeasty nose that is still rather primary, made in a richer and rather lush and ripe style. Very fine and long lasting bubbles, very fresh acidity, will revisit in 3+ years, when the components are better integrated.

Echezeaux Dinner (Sepia - Chicago IL): Big fruit aromas. Round, textured mouth feel with very good ripe fruit on palate. Lots of acid and energy on finish, this should last a long time with big upside potential.
