Epic night at Capasso. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of garden flowers, light green herb (dissipates later on with more air), red cherries, strawberry, fresh stoney earth, sous bois with more air. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of lovely dancing strawberries, super elegant red cherries, red licorice, fresh stoney earth, flowers in mouth. Clean purity mouth-feel. Lovely long finish. Excellent quality. Svelte Chambertin. Elegance and readiness of the 07 vintage here. Fruits actually get more exuberant and increasingly dancing on the tongue with more air. Bottle was emptied pretty fast. No hurry to drink this if you still have.

The colour is mid-red tending towards garnet. Medium to full on the palate, although it seemed a touch lean at first. However, it opened out to provide a mix of red fruits with a more savoury, meaty character. Certainly very good, but not the best Rousseau wine I have had by some way, although not the best vintage either.

Started a little disjointed with some dirty socks smells. But came together nicely. Game, umami, underwood. More black than red fruits. Masculine. Top quality Gevrey for the vintage.

Fresh on the nose with the beginnings of secondary development. Fantastic energy on the palate, primary-fruited, vigorous and and with tremendous length. Ready to drink but early in its drinking window. Supremely poised and elegant. With a couple of hours of air it started to develop a bit more depth and earthiness, edged towards the character of the 2000 next to it. I think on balance though it’s a better wine.

1st of 3, decanted 2.5 hours, perfect cork and level - dark but transparent ruby, little development; classy, complex, very attractive bouquet, black fruit, some meat and spice, hint of violet; medium, long, even more persistent with layers of flavour effortlessly unfurling, silky, nice acid bite, intense if not particularly concentrated or caressing, upside yet and balance for long life. VF (18.5).....interesting comparison with Rousseau CSJ 03 two weeks ago with that clearly the more concentrated but not necessarily the most layered.

Lovely and drinking on all cylinders after a double decant. Great nose, great depth of palate, long and clean finish. This is not an especially powerful wine, as befits the vintage, but it has great dark fruit notes, lovely texture, great balance and complexity that will likely continue to develop.

Domaine Armand Rousseau - Chambertin and Clos de Beze Dinner (Imperial Treasure Shanghai, Ngee Ann City, Singapore): This was stunning tonight - one of the very best wines on show in the midst of a whole lot of Rousseau Chambertin / Beze from the previous decade. A different creature altogether from the quietly elegant 2007 Beze that was paired with, but every bit as good. Maybe even better, The nose had a touch more toastiness to it here, with notes of spice, earth and then red cherries and berries, and just a touch of roasted meat at the edges. I liked the fragrant florals of the Beze a bit more, but this was lovely too. The palate was beautiful, if rather less seductive and charming than the Beze on first sip - probably needing more time in the glass. Where the previous wine was silk, this was more velvet, showing showed wonderful gobs of juicy dark cherries and red berries on the attack and, then gentle mineral, and earth and spice, absolutely filling every crevice of the back-palate. So long and so insistent, yet so understated and controlled. Wow, and wow again. This was just superb. Complete, powerful, and inexorable, yet lithe, light, transparent and completely weightless. This was incredible now, but with some room to keep evolving as well. A great, great wine.

Medium dark red color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes. Starts out a touch reductive with vegetal notes on the nose and palate, blows off and gains speed with air, lots of ferrous minerality, deeply earthy and damp with shitakes, slowly the red cherry fruit begins to take hold with background pomegranate as well. This feels weightless though the depth is there and almost deceiving; lots of soil and compost, dried rose petals build after 20 minutes along with more subtle fine spice. This has a sleek texture and very soft fine grained tannins. Thanks to my buddy Chablis28 for offering to share this with me. Give it some air if opening now.

Opened to celebrate our 40th! Opened about 4 hours prior to drinking in earnest to assess where it was at. Found it a moving target with time in the glass but never out of balance from the first sips & sniffs. Just degrees of greatness. Depending on time in the glass and serving temp you may experience a different wine.
Translucent bright red with slight ambering edges. Virtually no sediment. At less than 65 degrees this was a weightlessly, pure, red fruited, light underbrush & mushroom with a rose petal element. Upon pulling the cork and with 20 minutes in the glass I was hit with amazing aromas of fresh berries and rose petal. Utterly pure, fresh and nuanced. A more delicate, silky, pretty almost feminine, concentrated and complex think piece. At 65 degrees + it showed more weight, less nuance, and a more savory almost masculine profile with less finesse. I preferred the weightless, more ethereal red fruited version. This wine has beguiling; power. concentration and length looking at its deceptive palish color.
At its best this showed weightless, elegant, pure, concentrated rainier cherry, minerality, spice and rose petal on both the nose and palate. Foe me at its less attractive warmer version it was more savage with a darker complexion combined with herbs and savory elements. This is true to '07 with a slightly earlier maturity and yet shows so much concentration and intensity for a supposed "off vintage". Makes for terrific earlier access & maturity. This would be a blast to own 4 plus of! 13.5% Alc. OTOH count my blessing I have 1 more :). Can't see this falling off anytime soon so may wait till its 15th or 20th for next btl.

Rating this a touch behind the CSJ which I loved. Was hoping for a step up in excitement but did not find it here. The wine is beautiful, with detailed Chambertin nose of pine needles, cherry and red peppers, some meceration which we noted was like caponata, which could be signs of ageing. The fruit is still extremely pure. Less intense then the CSJ, when I had it a few years ago. Could go down too smoothly and you could miss the nuances. Maybe it is just a more elegant style, or maybe going through a muted phase. Could emerge with awesome secondaries in 5-10 years. I remain optimistic!

From a pristine bottle, this was drank next to the 06 and simply had less of everything compared to that great wine. Very similar to a bottle tried earlier this year, I have to disagree with some of the reviews here and say it’s mildly disappointing.
A bit reductive, the fruit is detailed but shy, and somewhat hard on the finish. it’s missing the vintage’s charm and precocity.

A Good Tuesday: Pinot doesn't get much better. Pretty much open and ready to party. Very '07 in that way. That Rousseau nose that carries much of what I look for in Burgundy- tea, spice, herbs, red fruit. Earth tones that slide in and out of cool red fruit. The energy here is terrific. That Rousseau thing of sappy fruit that coats the palate without weight. Intense. Lovely wine. Wish I could drink this on the regular.

Young but so beautiful and open in its youth. Again that Rousseau Chambertin purity and elegance. On the palate surprisingly long. No less impressive than the 08. It would be interesting to try the two side by side as they are both so delicious right now.

Tasted alongside 2007 Rousseau Clos de Beze and Clos st Jacques. A study in the effects of terroir as each wine was singularly unique. The Chambertin was light ruby in color. Aromas of sage, cool mint and other herbs leapt out of the glass at first, with red fruit woven through, with faint earthy notes to round it all out. Over the course of dinner the herbaciousness became more integrated but remained present. The wine had medium body but was structured and filled the palate with bright fruit and some earthy/game notes. Overall a beautiful bottle that should continue to evolve for a long long time.

Just a delicious bottle of wine. popped for 20 to 30 minutes and poured after. Black berries and cherries right off the bat. roasted meats over more timeThis was in a perfect place to me. Wine Dinner #162 - 2007 Grand Cru Burgundy (Urbane Restaurant, Brisbane): This unsurprisingly is a very similar wine to the CDB of the same vintage with a light cherry red colour and the same pretty nose of red fruits, spice and game but with a slightly higher toned scent of roses. The palate was similarly of light to medium weight but with that lifted floral character leading into a slightly firmer finish that still had a fine acid tannin persistence that provided shape and balance. A lovely, pretty Chambertin.

Rousseau 2007 Dinner (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): Single blind in flight. Easily the best aromas of the flight and probably the best overall performance right now! Really - Chambertin! Seemingly perfumed start with an array black berries and lots of roasted meat. Perfectly integrated, not a hair out of place here. Very long, very complex. Easily my favorite of the flight for now, which made me think it CSJ, given its youth. Damn fool!

Not a big nose but quite attractive as it draws you in with red currants, sweet spice, hint of vanilla and mint. Fresh in the mouth with lively acidity, a sweet core leads to a lengthy & spicy finish, not hugely complex but quite sexy. Will certainly improve yet very approachable today.

Love the '07 red Burgs... Very approachable although still primary. Beautiful nose of red fruits, a little wet earth, and spices that were almost reminiscent of a Vosne wine. Not a lot of dry extract, but still well balanced and elegant. Finished half the bottle at dinner and firmly recorked the bottle -- oddly/tragically, the next afternoon, the wine was lifeless. More air just made it worse...

Great wine albeit in a not so great vintage; very approachable, fruity, creamy, delish, more so than grand. Will keep, of course, it is still very young, but I doubt this will ever reach the elves we have come to expect from this producer and this vineyard. With PD & M. Cailloux at Le Sommelier.

Tasted next to the 07 Beze. Absolutely beautiful nose of red and blue fruit, spice and a slight vanilla note. Rich and round in the mouth with a smooth and glossy texture that works perfectly with the seemingly secret power of this wine. This is forward and expressive now, but the fruit and structure suggest many more years, although this will likely mature early, but will be wonderful when it does. The detail, elegance and finesse are really enjoyable and this is in a better place to be enjoyed now than the Beze or the 2008 Chambertin I tried in December. Long, pure and lingering finish.

Good, but not great. A bit simpler on the nose and a bit lighter on the palate than I was hoping for. A bit of a dumb phase? Or was just not a great bottle? Or they actually missed on the Chambertin this year (which I doubt for several reasons.) Have had other Rousseau 07s that were drinking well, so am hoping my other bottles of this will blossom, but I am not checking on on them again for several years.

Rousseau masterclass 2007 (Pinot workshop): Great wine. Very backward austere, shows a little sauvage, sous bois element. Not singing like the beze but a pretty awesome wine all the same. Great happiness here - so smooth and elegant, no rough edges, just big, sweet hearty fruit. The nose is beautiful - great mineral elements. The mid-palate is perfect, not rough or weak. The tannins are ripe and yet firm enough, showing a lovely balanced wine. The lack of enough density causes this wine to fall short of profound, it is a beautiful wine full of finesse. Southedgeton.

Superb, but fairly closed at this point. Began opening up at the very end after 2 hours. Sweet fruit. I'd wait a long time before revisiting this.

Wanted to get an early read on an 07 Rousseau, so why not Chambertin. Beautiful, sexy, earthy. Amazingly open, and an easy vintage to drink early.

Another amazing bottle. The clear step up in quality here in the Rousseau lineup is impressive.

Chambertin / Chambertin-Clos de Bèze dinner (Christie's Directors' Boardroom, 8 King Street, London, UK): Wonderful weight and balance, tighter and more closed than the 2007 Clos de Bèze, slightly more oaky (remarkably so), not as forward, very good length, needs another 2-3 years.

Rousseau and de Vogue (Sydney, Australia): Earth, stalks and cherry notes on the nose. Palate has beautiful purity of fruit, with a very long and balanced finish. Lovely wine that is set for a wonderful future.

Rousseau masterclass 2007 (Pinot workshop): Great wine. Very backward austere, shows a little sauvage, sous bois element. Not singing like the beze but a pretty awesome wine all the same. Needs time and hard to judge at this stage definitely not the stunner that the previously mentioned wine is today.

Clean, pure, high toned fruit. Impeccable balance. Restrained yet intense. So correct. Nicely done.

Dinner with Tim Kirk: Stalks, cherry and lovely floral aromas. Palate is excellent with great balance between fruit and acid and excellent length. Obviously extremely young but still enjoyable, while promising great things in the future.
