Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Spiaggia - Chicago IL): Small glass, brief note. Served blind. Came across as old-ish, ripe white Burg, but not very Chablis. Good weight. Tough to find a drinkable 2002 Fevre these days, so well done.

Relieved to taste a good bottle after the last one was premoxed. White flowers, lemon peel, and crushed rocks on the fragrant nose. Very good acidity with more citrus, honey, green apple, and mineral notes on the palate. Good length. Improved significantly over an hour in the glass/bottle.

Yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of dirty diaper, Graham cracker and butterscotch. Flavors of lemon and Anjou pear framed over an earthy finish. Medium acidity, full bodied. Drink over the short term. My guess was this is a 2005 Ybarra Chardonnay Australia. Man I blew this one.

Per my last note, this is very good wine, doing well and in no hurry to be drunk. I will keep my last 3 bottles a bit longer and savor them. Again, I have not had any of the premox problems that others complain about with Fevre and I have 40 cases of top Chablis from 1995 forward...

All concerns about premox due to some off bottles from Fevre's other vineyards flew out the window. This is a beautiful wine and exhibits characteristics of the 02 vintage so expect more fruit than the classic mineral /chalk you generally get in most vintages. Still hard not to like; There are some nice secondary notes here and the texture is round & big for Chablis. Well into a great place in it's evolution recommend drinking over the next few years, though it may surprise with a longer life.

Color: Light golden yellow Smell: lemon, green apples, bay breeze/sea spray Taste: light subtle notes of citrus, apple, and kiwi Overall: An elegant light-medium body wine, high acidity, medium-long finish, and it just seems to be in a wonderful place. I can't see myself being any happier with this wine. It blew the 2002 Fèvre Les Clos out of the water!! Outstanding!!!

Needed about 20 - 30 minutes to open up, a classic Chablis, stones, touch of seashells, crisp, clear, good acidity, plenty of complexity, long finish, not quite the power of the Les Clos, but plenty of character, drinking beautifully, becoming a favorite vineyard

Some Burgundy with Dinner (GT Fish & Oyster - Chicago IL): Modest beginning followed by ripe orchard fruit aromas and flavors. Lots of minerality and acidity with an energetic citrus-driven finish. At a great place now, this should continue to hold for another 3-5 years, consistent with several other bottles opened over the past year.

Translucent gold. Aromatic nose of sea spray, white flowers and a hint of matchstick. Medium-bodied in the mouth, with granny smith apples, chalk and lemon peel all making their presence known. Really packs a punch on the very long, invigorating, fresh finish, with an interesting saline-like element arriving very late. This is in its early drinking window, but has plenty of stuffing to hold (and possibly improve) for several more years.

Disappointing, to be frank. Had kind of a stinky cheese thing on the nose. Palate was typical lemon curd and minerality, then the cheese would come through again on the finish before turning kind of nutty. Not a lot of vibrancy left either. Perhaps this was modestly prem-oxed, as this was nowhere near as good as several other Fevre Grand Cru 2002s I've consumed...

Chablis Grand Cru Dinner (GT Fish & Oyster - Chicago IL): Just reaching a very good point in its development. Dense fruit that shows a great balance of ripeness and austerity. Just entering an exciting point, I expect this will be a wonderful wine for a decade to come.

Very nice. Excellent color and oily appearance. Chalk, limestone and minerals lead the attack on the nose. Nice complexity. Mouthcoating flavors of wet stones and green apple. Oak is nicely integrated and the wine is finely balanced. The breeding shows. Demonstrates once again that tou can't serve this wine too cold if you want to experience the nuances in all of their glory. 5-13-17-8: 93/100.

Deep, somewhat dark burnished golden yellow. The wine shows it's breeding from the first sniff through to the long satisfying finish and aftertaste. Oily appearance with big wet tears. Chalky, minerally nose that is delicate yet persistent and attention-grabbing. Big palate presence of minerally fruit. Slate, chalk, and Meyer lemon. Mouthfilling in the best sense of the word. Begs for your attention but doesn't overpower. Lovely fruit cascades across the palate and glided into a smooth, long, seamless finish. This is one classy wine. 5-12-17-8: 92/00. Peak drinking time right now.

STG End of Year (Roy's): the nose was incredibly concentrated, with grapefruit and some woodsy characters palate: the polar opposite of the riesling, super dry, a bit doughy (to borrow Eric's descriptor) and almost chunky with weight. OK--this bottle isn't obviously flawed, it's just mediocre. The condition of the cork and color of the wine appear ideal. If I opened a bottle of villages-level Chablis and tasted this I might be pleased. But for a grand cru from a very good vintage it strikes me as simple, with a pronounced sweetness that, given the context here, I just didn't expect, can't understand, and don't like. Or perhaps that's a relative lack of acidity, something this vintage and Valmur should have plenty of. This wine is not bad in absolute terms, only in relative ones. The longer it's open, by the way, the more 'caramel-ly' it becomes, which I take to be a remnant of whatever oak was used during its elevage. For my taste it is too pronounced.

The strongest color of any in the original six, and also the most advanced, with distinct sherry and almond notes on the nose. This would be relatively easy to drink and enjoy under normal circumstances, but it suffered in comparison with the more crystalline and pristine examples that preceded it. The palate has lost some of its clarity as well as the sherry flavors are starting to obscure the underlying structure of the wine.

Popped and poured. A light yellow with no signs whatsoever of any premature oxidation. A great nose of citrus and wet stone leads to minerals, seashells and a touch of lemon. I was surprised to find a little fat on the mid-palate, but the very long finish delivered the bracing acidity and stony precision I associate with great Chablis. A great wine that may still benefit from more age.

From the sea we come and from whence we shall return! This wine was a visit to the beach. No cork problems and no hints of oxidation. Pale yellow. Initial nose of sea spray and developed into notes of oyster shells and (according to my wife, and appropriately) hints of live blue crabs. Eventually the kelp showed up and all was teased by a hint of kumquat on the nose and palate. Beautiful acidity and decent minerality. The only thing keeping this from the classic range was a bit too much midpalate fat.

Huge bottle variation. I have had two bottles previously that were oxidized. This particular bottle is very good, how can that be? Bright clear straw color. Nose of a touch of lemon with big minerality. This glass smells like wet Limestone! Exactly what I want my Chablis to taste like. You never know when the next bottle will be a good one or a bad one! Very disappointing to say the least. EG

Similar to the last bottle in Sept 2009. Predominately fruit driven with some apple, citrus, pineapple and other white fruits. Relatively round but still decent acid. No oxidation issues. An excellent 2002

Light to golden color showing a touch of deeper color. Nose of saline with a lime lemon ices scent. The flavor is a very focused minerality showing loads of acidity, with the slightest hint of Limestone. A great example of Fevre. Loads of life in this wine. EG

This is much younger than the 2000 Les Clos. After last nights tasting I will be drinking Fevre at a younger age than Dauvissat or Raveneau. This is quite soft for chablis but consistent for the vintage. It's fruit dominated still without any hint of oxidation. Overall a really good bottle. It has all the apple notes that Dan would wish for.

Yellow with a glint of green. The most saline, lemony Chablis I've had in some time. Perfect '02 in the sense of having great acidity and minerality with a sense of flesh but not fat or anything tropical about it. Powerful and expansive in the mouth. Wow, what a wine and still on the young side. This could be every bit as great as the '96 Raveneau Valmur that I drank earlier this week; at the same time, it puts a recent '02 Fevre Vaudesir to shame.

An outstanding Chablis with a light yellow color in the glass and an understated, yet still pretty nose of minerals. In the mouth it has pure transparent flavors of citrus and minerals with a clear and precise acidic backbone, great balance and complexity and a long finish. This wine may get better with more age, but it is great now.

Young, pristine, and explosively powerful in the mouth. Full of salinity, stoniness, and orange rind citrus. Great balance with excellent acidity that is not quite as screechy as it can be in '04s. This will improve for a long time and is unmistakably of Grand Cru quality.

Another great bottle -so easy to drink at this stage. The flavors are smooth and delicate and it has a rather rich feel for a chablis -not from overextraction but from the nice tension between the clean fruit and acidity. This bottle did not have as much of a minerally profile as I have come to expect from Valmur and it has more tropical aromatics and a hint of pineapple. There was 2 oz left in the open bottle on the kitchen counter the next morning -it was still delicious with no signs of oxidation which suggests to me that there is a long life ahead here.++

Light straw colour. Expressive aroma, chalk, mineral and touch of lime. On the palate oily and chewy showing a touch of apricot kernel bitterness which I find appealing in that it has grip and keeps the power and thickness of the wine in check. Great persistence on the finish. A baby.

Sensational right out of the bottle on the first sip. Even at refrigerator temperature there's no denying the stony fruit, yellow apple telltale qualities. It sweeps across the mouth and then washes it clean with brisk acidity and a minerally tang. I can't wait till it warms up a bit.

Horizontal Tasting of 2002 Fevre Chablis (San Francisco): A shade darker than the other wines. Rich with a whiff of sherry. Certainly not austere. Not over the hill, but disappointing compared to a bottle tasted last year.
