Main impression: Darkness! Dark purple/red color, nearly black. The nose is dominated by blue and black fruits. Very impressive. On the palate there are no tertiary notes yet, fruit dominates here too. Will last for a long time and is not already on its peak. Wait and it will pay off...Give it many hours of air if opened now!

Very good showing for this wine. Still mostly primary and the merlot really shows. The rim is just starting to show red and not the deep purple of past bottles. Tannins are very fine…dare I say ferrous. Acidity is definitely present and I’m slightly worried that the fruit might not live up to the structure in several years. But this is about as nice a cru bourgeois wine as I can think of. Drink now or hang tight for a couple years to see if anything new develops.

PnP. Drank over two hours. The tannins are strong with this one. Everything else in balance with nice minerality. A tad hot for Bordeaux? I'd wait another 2-3 years before opening. Very promising. Could rate 94 in five years.

Upon opening was unbalanced, and reminiscent in part of cognac (assuming the oak), with some graphite. After 1.5 hours, fruit showed up to bring forwards balance, but it never really shone. On day 2 the fruir was stewed. Could’ve been bottle variation?

This was delicious right out of the bottle. I’m a little worried now that it won’t hold up tomorrow but we’ll find out. It’s not just a warm vintage Bordeaux either—it has some St Estephe typicity as well, a specific sort of stony minerality on top of the fruit. A great claret. Meyney always does well in the warm vintages.
Decanted for 2 hours and it could have used more. When you see the St Estephe on the bottle and taste the wine, you have to nod. To me, red fruits and berries, tobacco, earth, and spice with the tannins still needing to resolve. Medium to full bodied and definitely ripe. Plenty of time left to improve I think. Nice wine.

Opened two bottles of the 2009 Meyney and one bottle of the 2009 La Lagune during a series of CNY dinners within a few days. Just like on previous encounters I feel both are very good Bordeaux and inline with some of the best efforts from both Chateaux over the years. But neither is something really special, as the initial raving reviews of the 2009 vintage might have made us believe. I would take a mediocre vintage of a better producer anytime over an entry level 09 or 10. In my eyes both wines, and in particularly the Lagune, would have benefitted from a touch less toasted new oak. The toast remains a rather dominant element on the palate even after 14 years. Not sure if the balance can improve in the near term as the fruit will continue to gradually fade from here.

Wine has aged well,10 years since I last tasted it, fruit shines in this balanced Bordeaux, smooth tannins, medium body, stood up to 2 other St Julien Bordeaux wines we tasted, would drink again, tasted in FW.

No decanting (even though the bottle turned out to have a fair bit of sediment), PnP and consumed over the next 1,5 hour. Drinking very, very nicely now. Deep purple red color, and a pronounced nose of ripe black and red fruits with some tertiary notes emerging. The same ripe (almost jammy) fruits (though maybe not very 'precise' as wine critics like to describe some of the better wines made these days), and softened tannins all nicely integrated with secondary and emerging tertiary notes on the round, medium+ density palate. The medium acidity and high (14,5%) ABV are not overly noticeable or distracting. Finish is smooth and long. Excellent wine that seems to have reached the start of it's prime drinking window. Plenty of life and further evolution ahead.

Really an excellent wine, especially price/quality. The fact that it continued to improve after two hours of drinking (from bottle) shows that this wine still has a long life ahead!

Gave this bottle a double decant. the cork was sound and there was a lot of sediment. Tasting notes very consistent with my 2020 review. It was nice to drink and a pretty good value for my purchase price on release. However, nothing super special.

Pnp - had a glass with steak at home and then continued with the wine on its own. Two years since my last bottle and the wine has clearly lost the tightness and is now open from pulling the cork. Dark garnet with a thin translucent rim. The nose shows a bit lighter and fresher than the full bodied palate. Not overripe but a bit heavy and lazy for my taste, without necessarily showing a lot of depth and complexity. Perhaps this will develop with more age... There are still quite some tannins but for now covered by the remarkably rich fruit at age 13. Short to medium finish. Does not have the sweetness of Napa but otherwise it does resemble a good but not great Cali Cab. Will be interesting to follow over the next years to see where the wine goes from here. 91-92 (+?)

Full-bodied wine with good size tannins...shows no signs of aging. Tasted during one of our Monday Night Tastings...many thought it was a big Napa Cabernet/California Bordeaux blend. While it was very good I'd say this needs another 2-5 years before tasting again.

Decanted and drank over two days. Medium to heavy body. Some bricking. Nose of wet rocks, black fruit and tar. Much the same on the palate with wet rocks dominating along with drying tannin. Would be better without the somewhat overwhelming alcohol. Still a good buy at current price.

Decanted six hours. Full body. Fragrance of blackberry compote, creosote and wet granite, taste matches, along with drying tannin leading to a long enjoyable finish. The last bottle I had of this was not decanted long enough - decant and enjoy this wine now, perhaps another year. This bottle was quite good and likely at its peak.

Decanted, then began after two hours. Medium body. Nose of blackberry compote and anise. Palate of wet rocks, cloves, a bit of drying tannin, low acidity and long finish of the wet rocks. Very enjoyable, ready. Best after an overnight of decant, although good the first day as well, the first day had a slight bitter on the end. Enjoyed with a tomato sauce base dinner and would likely also be good with prime rib or similar. Purchased 3 more right away. $65 seems fair for the quality. Enjoy.
PNP at restaurant, small glassware. Even so, this was really good wine. Had a new world sort of finish. Heavy on Cabernet. Probably one of the better French style wines I have had. Definitely could sit for 5-7 years easily.

Deep purple colour. Pronounced nose with dark plum, blackberry, ripe blackcurrant, cedar, chocolate, pencil and vanilla. Pronounced taste of dark plum, ripe blackcurrant, ripe blackberry, cedar, pencil and vanilla. Long and dry finish. High acidity. High, but velvety tannins. Full body. A very good Saint-Estéphe that is velvety and elegant. Needed four hours of air to open. Drink now or over the next ten to twenty years, depending on your preferences. Goes well with beef or lamb.

Bouquet with earth, vanilla and leather. Dark berries and dark chocolate. Same on the palate. Dark cherry bonbons. Good acidity, tannin and length. Will improve over the next five years, so I should save my last two bottles for a few more years.

After a flawed bottle, I though I would try another. This is in better shape, but seems somewhat shutdown. Quite blocky palate - not a great deal of fruit to speak of, and very firm tannins. There is a little tertiary development. After being open 3 days, it starts to develop an interesting chalky minerality on the finish. Not much more to say at this point.

Not great. No forward fruit and little fruit at all in fact. Tannins are there but not long lasting. Mouthfeel ok but the tar, tobacco, and leather notes kinda take over. Not sure this would be more likable giving 5 or 10 more years.
Drink it now.

Cellared since release. Perfect cork and fill. Dark red core, minimal lightening at rim. Very consistent from bottle to bottle. Early mature nose of cassis, dark fruits and earth. Medium-full body, lush ripe fruit but not flabby, beginning aged complexity, moderate tannins, nice balance, medium finish. Excellent now with better years ahead.

Graphite, tar, black currants. Rich and full bodied with super silky tannins and balanced mouthfeel and a hint of chocolate on the finish. Fantastic wine and excellent price to quality ratio.
(1/15/21) Very much like my last bottle, this was very dark, with just a little of the change in color that comes with age but no bricking per se. On PnP, this showed cassis and black cherry laced with truffles, cigar box, cedar, and mint on the nose, and there were good, dark fruits and truffles on the amply concentrated palate. The tannins in this bottle were soft but nowhere near resolved. The wine showed good balance, and the concentration of fruit was easily supported by a very juicy acidity. 14.5% abv. (***+/16.5/93)

2nd of 6 bottles. Consistent notes. Possibly flawed. 2hour decant. Unfortunately my impression is not like the other recent notes. Greenish nose: olive/green pepper. Decent but somewhat muted fruit. I’m just not too impressed. I haven’t been overly impressed by 2009 Bdx in general so far, but this was my least favorite of the ones I’ve tasted. I prefer 2010 for now.

Green pepper, concentrated black currant, graphite and tar. Rich, layered, amd unctuous, but balanced. Silky tannins and a long harmonious finish. Delicious.
No formal tasting note- drank on NFL Saturday with a variety of appetizers.
This is just a great example of a so called lesser wine in a great year. Open knit with classic St Estephe notes of black fruits, vanilla and spice. Good acidity and structure with a medium plus finish.
This is a crowd pleaser to drink over the next five years.

Color was almost black with heavy legs streaming down the glass. This wine is still very concentrated and has many years of life remaining. Massive cassis, charred oak & cedar, aggressive tannin and charcoal was my first impression, then after a couple hours it softened into black cherries & dark chocolate with a moderate finish. Tasted again the next day and the robust profile had barely budged. Alcohol (14.5%) was barely noticeable. Paired with braised beef cheeks and root veggies… fabulous!
Identical to last bottle. Cellared since release. Perfect cork and fill. Dark red core, minimal lightening at rim. Early mature nose of cassis, dark fruits and earth. (11/13/20) On PnP, there were loads of red and dark fruits and ample, ripe tannins here. After an hour in the decanter, the tannins were softer, and the nose and palate began to display some complexity as other aromas and flavors began to show themselves—a touch of oak, truffles, and some mint. After two hours in the decanter, the nose and palate were dripping with truffle-infused black cherries; 14.5% abv. (***/15.5/91)

Wine was properly stored from purchase upon release until consumed. Big, full bouquet with berries, cassis, blackberries, cherries, Raspberries, Boysenberries, touch of honeysuckle. Lovely wine with layers of scents. Opens even more fully after 40 minutes, so try decanting if you drink it in the next few years.

Deep purple black. Fairly tight after opening with black currant and pleasant oak and tar aromas. After decanting first a few hours it really opened up and starting giving layers of dark fruits. The tannins are still a bit firm but everything seems to be in balance, and once food was added to the equation, this was a real delight. This is probably just starting to enter its drinking window for me. Good thing I have more bottles to try over the next decade.

After reading previous notes, I decanted this for 4 hours before dinner, and believe this improved the experience. First bottle from case bought on release. Tasted initially and the wine was closed and not showing much. After the extended decant, the wine opened up into a beautiful wine showing nose and notes of cassis, plum, dark berries, tobacco, tomato leaf, forest floor and spices. Medium to full bodied and definitely ripe with the tannins still resolving, this wine seems at the beginning of its drinking curve. This is one of those cases that you bought and stored, hoping it would turn into something more than it was, and it did. Isn't that why we cellar these wines? Served with rare filet, this was very well received by the group. Nice.
Full bodied and beautiful wine in its early maturity stage. Good acidity and tannin. Will probably show more complexity in 4 – 7+ years, but is a pleasure already when given some air.

First bottle from an OWC. Poured into decanter and drank over 4h. This is initially fairly tight but opens up with around 45-60 min of air. Did not get any heat as some previous tasters but very ripe dark fruit which is matched by good acidity and increasing freshness in the course of the evening. I had seen some of this over-ripeness in some other 2009s upon release but they have balanced out nicely in the meantime, so perhaps another 2-3 years in bottle might turn this into a truly great Meyney. 91+

55% Cab.S, 30% Merlot, 15% Pet. Verdot - 14,5% alc.

To be honest, my bottle is slightly corked. I recognize it on the first sniff. But for me, this level of TCA doesn’t seriously detract from the wine and even, dare I say, adds a bit of complexity. I rarely find that cork taint ruins a wine. Likely, I’m less sensitive to TCA than others.
This wine’s great concentration and aromatic complexity make the cork taint forgettable. I love the cedary bite, the smoky BBQ-like notes, and the mouth staining blackberry fruit. This wine reminds me that Cabernet really is the king of grapes, even though I don’t drink it that often.

Decanted three hours before serving. The most rustic of the bunch. The tannins were a little course, but the fruit was mineral laden and dark, almost blue. Overshadowed by the competition that evening, but still enjoyed by the group. These will likely develop moderately over the next five years, but you could easily enjoy them now. Great QPR.

Improved markedly after an hour of air. Cassis, blackberry, plum, pencil shavings, vanilla and tobacco. Medium lift and tannins have noticible grip. With air the nose gets better and better. Not as polished as some but more personality than most. Drinks well now but substantial stuffing left.
Evolving nose of black fruits (cassis), baking spice , vanilla and some lead pencil.
Similar flavor characteristics the palate (the black fruits are toward the "jammy" part of the spectrum) with medium tannin, medium acidity and a medium plus to long finish.
Great value in a great vintage!
Just delicious and this wine will hold for another decade easily.

First of six bottles I bought on release. When I pulled the cork it had a slight off aroma initially. Likewise the first taste had me concerned it was corked. But over time the aroma and taste improved to where the wine was enjoyable. Just a case of the French Funk? Additionally, there was a lot of sediment. The moral may be that this wine requires some serious decanting. We'll see what the next bottle of this wine and vintage brings.....
Decanted 2 hours. Still a bit young and primary but alreay a nice wine. Worth to pop a bottle now but I guess it will be even better with 5 more years. 91 pts at the moment.

This just keeps getting better and better. The wine is medium/full-bodied, with a core of earthy, spicy, tobacco stained red berries, round, soft, inviting tannins, freshness and a gorgeous, spicy, red fruit filled finish. Give this just a few more years and it will show even better!

Very nice. Exuberant 2009 fruit with a nice oaky structure. This has years ahead of it, and it’s definitely a buy at $50. Drinkable now if you like vigorous fruit over secondary notes. Better in 5 years.
Decanted for 2 hours. This wine is not drinkable, same as previous bottle. Based on others experiences I must have some bad bottles. Will hold last bottle for several years to see what happens but I am not expecting any magic...in this case anyhow.
This has evolved into a terrific value. PnP, drank over 90mins. 30 mins in this is rounding the bend from brash youth to mature Bordeaux. Good secondary flavors, balanced structure. Great with food.

Lustrous dark and translucent in color, with a highly seductive nose, with dusty dried roses, sour red cherry, and a hint of tar. Cool menthol in the mouth, followed with blackcurrant, sour plum/apricot and hidden red fruits, tar, well-worn leather, and a bit of 5 spice. Dusty fine-grained tannins. Drinking nicely now but feels like it still is holding something is reserve.
Color is very dark, black to deep purple, nose is forest floor, cigar box, plum jam, tea bag, full bodied with mellow plum and five spice, low acidity still some tannins, soft pleasant generous mouthfeel, large amount of sediment. 10 years on just at the beginning of its drinking window with easily another ten years to go.
The wait was worth it! This has developed nicely. Good substance complexity and length. This still has some chewy tannin though, I don’t mind. I think it will still improve slightly over the next couple years but it has entered its drinking window. 92+
Cellared since release. Perfect cork and fill. Dark red core, minimal lightening at rim. Forward nose of cassis, dark fruits and earth. Medium-full body, lush ripe fruit but not flabby, moderate tannins, nice balance, medium finish. Excellent now. Should improve as it develops complexity.

150.0 cl Château Meyney - St. Estephe - 2009 CHF 130.00 + MwSt
Rene Gabriel 19 Punkte:
55 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 30 % Merlot, 15 % Petit Verdot..

A lot going on here, lots of fruit and tannins. I agree with the other comments, that it needs a decant of at least an hour, and is only just entering its drinking window. I will try it again in about three years.

Cellared since release. Perfect cork and fill. Deep dark red core, minimal lightening at rim. Some hints of cassis and earth on opening but this needs to warm up a bit from cellar temp before giving it a good sniff.
Forward nose comes right to the fore as soon as it starts to warm up. Cassis, dark fruits, cedar, earth, very promising! First sips: Medium-full body, lush ripe fruit but not flabby, moderate tannins, a bit hollow on the mid and back palate. Let’s see if it fleshes out with some air.
It does flesh out with more air. The mid and back palate fill out. Medium body. Nice balance with ripe fruit, earth, cedar/tobacco. Too young for any real complexity. Medium finish. Very good to excellent now. Expecting further improvement with age. Will open the next one in about 5 years.

Deep ruby with a nearly purple core. Tightly packed and thickset on the nose with ripe red and black fruits that are heavily offset by notes of smoke, burnt cedar, grilled herbs and gravely earth. Nearly full-bodied on the palate, rich, ripe and mouthfilling in style with fine and relatively soft tannins supporting flavors of ripe black fruit, pain grille, and earth. Satisfying.

I can't help but think this wine is overdone in some way. So fat, juicy and drinkable even without food. Not Really Estephe in a nutshell. Still lovely berries but prune underneath. I wonder where it will go from here?
Negotiant Imported Wines (Marriot on Pitt Street, Sydney): Despite being 9 years old there is still loads of new oak here backed by over-ripe black fruit, savoury spice. Rich, tight smooth but drying tannins…slightly meaty notes. Bit of a big boy.

Opened a half-bottle this evening as the cool fall air speaks to imbibing reds. Should have decanted as there was some sediment in the bottle and, as mentioned below, this wine has aged into a mini-monster. Color remains very saturated and dark red. Yet, boy, has this wine evolved on the palate. I liked the wine in the past because it had amazing rich, youthful flavors. This evening, the wine's rich flavors have shed their exuberance and revealed a wine of much greater tannic power. Noted flavors of molasses, mulberry, minimality, along with a ton of iron-laced tannins. Upon release, I would pnp a bottle and enjoy its abundant fruit; now however, this Meney seems more primary (if that's the correct word) and needs a good long decant. Needs time to develop some secondary and tertiary flavors. Probably best to let this wine sleep for five plus years before opening again.

Sweet, confected red fruits at first. Soon dominated by cigar box with a hint of vanilla. A medium weight body with good energy. A slightly dry tobacco finish. A good balance of sweet and savory. 14.5% alcohol well hidden - not at all a hot finish. A wine entering its prime.
Very nice bdx for the money. Everything seems to work together nicely. Would buy again under $40 Updated note...corked the bottle and drank the second half on day two. This had really fleshed out and became much more showy. 91-92 depending on the style you prefer.

93+ Can't find notes - this was very enjoyable and paired great with steaks. I get the "Bordeaux meets Napa Cab" references but this wine had great minerality and structure. Ripe, but not at all overdone, in my opinion - clearly this drinks like an '09 Bordeaux. Excellent value under $40USD and would buy again / more.
Deep red and clear in the glass with red/black core. Classic St. Estephe notes of cassis, blackberry, tobacco, and faint hint of Asian spice. Full bodied and intense with balanced mid palate. Medium length finish with no hard edges. Very similar to an 08 Montrose I recently enjoyed, only a little more hollow and less focused on the mid-palate. 91-92.
Excellent (even serious) red and well worth the $30/750 I paid. Not so sure I'd be as happy at the $50-65 / 750 being asked by some retailers. today...... 91-92.

Pop and pour and followed for a few hours. Blackberries, cassis, black and red licorice, earth, forest floor, charcoal, and a little menthol on the nose. Blackberries, blueberries, tart cherry, earth, licorice, and cassis on the palate. Nice acidity, slightly grippy tannins, good finish. Delicious. Overall, this had a forward 2009 quality, but enough earth, tannin, and terroir to keep it interesting. Most of all, it was really delicious. I need to hunt down more bottles.

Decanted 2 hours before drinking. For first 90 mins drinking window, terrific. Tannins were very soft (more than expected), fruit balanced with earthiness as you'd expect. Faded somewhat after that, which surprised me from such a big vintage and young example.

2009 should come to be known as the Napa vintage, and St. Estephe should become the posterchild. Hedonistically fruity (candied cherry, plum, with baking spices and hints of rustic oak)....if not for the oak treatment, you'd swear this was a well made Cali product, 14-15% alcohol and utterly scrumptious. Motz's note is dead on, except for the Cab. reference.....I had this bottle immediately after a respectable 2001 Pauillac and the wines couldn't be more different.
Probably won't last for decades, but who the hell holds Bordeaux for decades? Good now....good in 5 to 10 years probably....

Tasted blind. Serious wine. Pencil shavings, herbs, menthol, tapenade, licorice, smoked meat, and blackberry. (Read: old world, not fruit forward). Lots of energy from excellent minerality. Tannins are big and appropriate.
Guess the wine. Likely Bordeaux. Probably left bank. Rating: 92.
Non-blind p.s.: This wine drinks well now, but it's still tightly wound. My worry with aging would be that it could get too dark and obscure.

Nose muted but lifts out of the glass, not yet developed. Good juicy fruit with medium tannins and acid. Flavors aren't popping yet. Still too young, wait until at least 2019. Day two it improved! Some menthol and cigar box complexity came through on the palate which was most welcomed.

Paired with grilled NY strips. Decanted for 2 hours. Black in the glass with some sediment. Tobacco, dark fruits (plum, cassis) & charcoal. On palate, dark fruits with tobacco. Medium+ body, medium acids and tannins are completely integrated (honestly I couldn't tell they were there). Very enjoyable - the fruit showed no signs of oxidation and the wine was balanced but curious how this will age.

Not as good as the previous one I had. This felt a bit thin and lacking in power. Maybe it's because I tasted this alongside the '09 Pipestone Reserve Syrah which was utterly thrilling by comparison.

Smells and tastes like ripe vintage Left Bank Bordeaux (with Cabernet Sauvignon particularly expressive), of which the 2009 vintage is the most recent flagship. Quite appealing on the first day, featuring copious purple and red berry fruit, good balance, and a rich mouthfeel. Clean, texturally appealing, and focused. On the second day the wine turned somewhat muddled, yet still enjoyable. The bottle had thrown a striking amount of sediment.
Another sexy 2009 vintage Bordeaux for which long-term cellaring may not be the best option. Recommend enjoying over the next three to five years. 90-91.

Nose first closed, but opened about one hour after bottle was opened: leather, black fruits; on palate balanced, smooth tannins, fruits continue, long finish; still young - some more years to reach peak.

First pour out of bottle had a strong scent of wet earth. Not the most pleasant. But blew over after 1+ hour decant. Lovely deep red in colour.
Nose of iron, graphite, dark fruits though not much. On the palate, medium-plus bodied and lovely mouth feel. Spice, and iron (almost like blood). Fruit was relatively muted early, but developed with air, culminating with focused red fruit by the end of my glass. Relatively high heat, but within control. Well-balanced, good purity. Medium length finish.
Tasted particularly good pairing with a fat Kobe A4 misuji, less so just drinking it straight.

Such a nice wine. Ullage was excellent from this 375ml bottle. Color was deep and strong with good rich dark red tones. No purple tones, but clearly red from from edge to center. Nose was rich throughout the evening with notes of cassis and brown sugar as well as dark red berries. Flavors are rich and strong with elements very much like the nose with a finish of red currant, iron, iodine and watermelon acidity. Fruit is rich, but the tannin is present which, as previously noted, means that this wine can use some more time in the cellar. This wine and vintage, especially in the half-bottle size, is perfect for a dinner needing a good Bordeaux possessing good PQR. Enjoy!

SOYHEAD is spot on. This is not ready and really not even drinkable given the new wood and raw tannins. I hope this turns out good in the long run though. Will hold remaining bottles and hope for the best. No score at this time.

Intense red with dark center. Highly fragrant and perfumed, with blackberry, cassis, ink, graphite, violets, and charcoal. Wow! What a nose. Concentrated and intense on the palate with some darker coffee-type earth notes, as well. Firm and focused. Excellent bottle. Almost extraordinary. (93pts).

Fairly intense red with slight violet hue in the glass. Remarkably pretty nose with blueberries, blackberries, violets, some anise and subtle earth, tobacco notes. Same notes on the palate, supported by moderate tannins and mouth-watering acidity. Really long, lingering blueberry, mint finish. All-in-all a remarkably smooth, complex and delicately elegant wine. A real bargain at <$40/750.

Dazzling delight! Reminds me, in part, of the Palmer '09 but not as concentrated or deep! Very well integrated, luscious and fruity Red... Dominant tart cherry and creme fresh make this wine savory and succulent. I would predict further aging would make it turn rustic and old school Bordeaux in character. If you like vibrant, fleshly reds, drink it young and enjoy! Great QPR!

Fab. Very dark, more or less opaque, with a red rim, great legs and viscosity. Open 24 hours, this sported a fine black licorice/anise nose when opened. Now it is redolent of plum, blackberry and other black fruits. Rich and full in the mouth but amazingly already drinkable. A big wine with big tannin, the tannins are nonetheless sweet and gritty, not hard. Well-integrated vanillin oak. Excellent long, full finish. This is a real winner, I adore this. And it can clearly go many more years. 5-12-17-9: 93/100.

Second Sunday Group: 2009 Bordeaux (Augie's): Aromas of char, black fruit and dirt- like freshly turned over topsoil. Tannic. Flavors of blackberry and plum, spice and vanilla. As it sits, the charred quality becomes more apparent on the nose and palate. Tannins are very chalky; clumsy.
The group thought this flawed, but no one knew exactly what the flaw might be. I don't know if it's flawed or just not very good.

I really liked this wine. Classic Bordeaux. Notes of cedar, tobacco, and earth. Fruit may be a bit muted but that should evolve over time. this wine has very firm tannins and was clearly consumed too soon. Needs to settle for at least five more years.

Ripe dark fruits, licorice, smoke, earth and spice aromas open to a medium/full bodied, soft, round, forward wine that can be enjoyed in its youth or aged, as there is enough stuffing for this wine to improve for at least a decade or more.

Best Meyney ever tasted! Hands down the '09s continue to shine as this glorious vintage remains one for the ages! Highly concentrated wine with plenty of chewy character cherry and a bit of spice give way to floral accents on the finish.. Very st. Estephe.... I can only imagine how the Cos must taste? I had the pagodes, plenty of years needed for this to mature. This Meyney as well can use time but is drinkable now with decanting ....

Dark, almost black in color. The nose is similarly dark; aromas of ash with hints of tobacco swirl around a base of ripe dark fruit (boysenberry, blackberry, plum). Deep inhalation yields a pungent but delectable note of overripe tomatoes. On the palate, this in superb balance- concentrated without being overly dense, smooth without being subdued. The tannins are firm but seamlessly integrated throughout the long, dry finish. Though this is capable of at least a decade of continued maturation, it is a stunner right now.

This is much better straight out of the bottle - Deep perfume of coconut oil, sweet new oak, loam, scorched earth, black currants, and spring flowers.
Agree with previous taster this is slightly out of balance - mouthfeel would benefit from more acidity. The tannins are a bit rough-hewn at this stage as well.
Shuts down hard the next day - the oak monster just takes over and doesn't let go. Wish I had finished the bottle on the first night.
Will benefit from a few more years of bottle age but won't go the long haul as the classified St. Estephe chateaux

Quick Note from a 375ml: Day One - Dark as anticipated. Flavors are full bodied and rich, but tannins are peaking through. Day two - All about tannins. Obviously this wine needs time. Without sounding pretentious, I don't recall the same level of tannins in the ‘82 when that wine was released, but if history is an indicator, the '09 should be a very nice wine when things mellow, keeping in mind that Meyney is supposed to mature quicker than its stable mates.

This opaque crimson wine was tasted in double-blind fashion, being presented to our Friday tasting group by M.C. The nose shows light aromas of cassis, tobacco, black tea and spice. Full-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity, ample dry tannins and slightly hot alcohol (listed as 14.5%). The flavors are subdued but black fruit-dominated. A solid middle palate leads to a medium-length, albeit astringent finish. This wine has no doubt "shut down." With some time in the bottle, I would expect the fruit to emerge and the tannins to soften. As such, it may warrant a higher score in the future. Drink 1/15-12/22.

Out of a 375... I think Parker got this right. Great dark blackish-red color. Primarily fruity nose w/ hint of vanilla, big lush mouthfeel, powerful young wine but not too much for my tastes - it retains it's Bordeaux-ness. Huge tannins, great acidity that wraps it all up in a bow.

Nice.

Great QPR.

Beautiful deep ruby color.

The moral may be that this wine requires some serious decanting. We'll see what the next bottle of this wine and vintage brings.....

55 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 30 % Merlot, 15 % Petit Verdot..

Cassis, dark fruits, cedar, earth, very promising!
First sips: Medium-full body, lush ripe fruit but not flabby, moderate tannins, a bit hollow on the mid and back palate. Let’s see if it fleshes out with some air.

Enjoy!

Similar to previous two bottles.
Intense deep red / magenta with dark center. Fair amount of coarse, gravelly sediment remained in the bottle. Still young and fresh with red/black fruit, spice, and vanilla. Silky and firm texture. (90-92pts).

The group thought this flawed, but no one knew exactly what the flaw might be. I don't know if it's flawed or just not very good.

Ripe dark fruits, licorice, smoke, earth and spice aromas open to a medium/full bodied, soft, round, forward wine that can be enjoyed in its youth or aged, as there is enough stuffing for this wine to improve for at least a decade or more.

Quick Note from a 375ml:
Day One - Dark as anticipated.
