The 1964 Brane Cantenac shows the difficulty of the vintage in the Medoc but still does the terroir credit. It's understandable that the rains at harvest created a wine looser and lighter than usual in that era with a slightly hollow palate and a short finish, but there is a pretty, almost Beaune-like quality to the red cherry, warm earth, and allspice-filled nose. This struggles with a bit of volatility and some fecal, barnyard notes, but these usually remain in the background. Decanted off of its sediment and poured immediately, this tails off after about 40 minutes.

Light red in color. Palate of thin red berry fruit, light tannins, barely holding up structurally but it's still got it. Past prime but still pretty good considering it's over 50 years old. Obviously drink ASAP if you still got any.

Really surprised how good this still was. Quite a bit of prune juice and cigar soaked fruit that stood up over two days. Still a good dose of acidity that kept it very interesting, tannins quite resolved and pillow soft. A very pleasant surprise.

Saturated cork with capsel indented on it. Bricking, light red. Saddle leather, sweet plum, rotten strawberry, some aged red berry, violets, sea salt, licorice. Developed milk chocolate over time. This sucka is old.

Pleasant old lady, no sharp edges, sweet and kind - lacking in intensity and complexity, but the balance is good. Holding up well.
