World's Greatest, Hong Kong - Night I (Bo Innovation): This nose is hugely opulent but dark and dense and requires a great deal of swirling to get a good read. Even with a lot of coaxing the nose doesn't want to give up too much expression. Brooding. The palate however is excellent with chocolate covered cherries and black currant. This is clearly the wine of the flight, probably the best of the Bordeaux category, although I think the '59 Latour is a little more interesting, but others are calling this a clear wine of the night. I'm impressed but not blown away. Textrually dense. Not straightforwardly gettable like most First Growth showings. I wish I spent more time figuring this out.

Quite dark in color with a nose of old black fruits and an Autumnal forest. Seems still young and a bit unforgiving but still very refined if a bit linear like many '61's. It improved in the glass though and began to show some lovely flavors of decayed cherries and a complex finish with notes of black minerals and dark spices. 94+ Beau Rivage, Geneva, 6/14

Purple red color with a darker more complex nose of plums and spices, this is truly a wonderful wine that improved substantially in the glass with time. 96 points

Very extracted nose and this carried on to the color, which was so, so dark. Elements of the old style California wines that were highly extracted for power but to the detriment of elegance. Certainly a big wine and with many admirers. (per se)

(Lafleur) Well this is the stuff legends are made of. Talk about chocolate on the nose. This had it in spades. Also there was such an intense raspbery liquer/spicecake thing going one. Mocha, cocoa powder and Grand Cru Valhrona chocolate were some of the different types I was getting. There was also a streak of minerality on the nose. The nose was ridiculous. Could not stop smelling it. The palate was utterly transparent. Perfect fruit and perfect balance and spherical in the mouth. Profund is not the word . . . I need to come up with it . . .
