Classic Barolo nose in a ripe register: rose pastilles and herbs, deep dark ripe fruit. The roses are the strongest note. Rich ripe on the palate, very dense slightly cooked character but fresh acidity keeps it on the right side of overripe and balanced. Nice fresh acidity and lots of fine tannin on the finish. Not sure where this is going: it’s a bit disjointed at the moment but very balanced. Good for a decade or so at least.

First slightly closed, opening up with some air. Nice darker fruit with notes of mint leaves, brown sugar, leather, tar, also some menthol, a little bit of herbs. It's pretty full bodied with medium-high acidity and high tannin. Long finish. A great but still young San Giuseppe but probably not on the level of the 2008.

(at The Modern - NYC) This is a classic wine that is tightly wound at the moment. Wonderful mineral and earth marries well with rose and red fruits. Medium bodied with a good dose of tannin. This should be really good in 10+ years. (93+)

Cavallotto Tasting: Tar and charred oak, some blackcurrant and meatiness. Rather fruit forward on the palate, there is good acid but it doesn't seem to have the required structure to me.

2008 Barolo Tasting at Antonio Galloni's La Festa del Barolo (Del Posto Restaurant, NYC): Lovely dense nose of sweet black fruits with hints of exotic spices. Very sweet and long. Should drink well for 2 decades.
