  • From small capped bottles poured for a zoom tasting on 1/25/24. Tasted double blind on 2/3/24. This was horrible on 2/3 from a Gabriel Gold - giving almost nothing and had an odd-off aroma of burnt hair but unlike bottle #3 (07 d’Angerville Champans) this showed a little cherry fruit and spice. But I hypothesized that the week+ in a small capped bottle in the fridge may have shut this down and so I tried it again the next day (the first taste allowed air into the small bottle) and I tried it and let it breathe and warm up in a Zalto Burgundy glass.

2/4/24: The off smell is gone now. This is deep and dark and burly on the nose - black cherry and plummy fruit along with some earth and leather and some dark spices. Maybe hints of mint. Ok. The palate here is really good - black cherry and plummy fruit along with something tarter - some rhubarb. There is a savory component that is just wonderful - the fruit turns to wild strawberry and it’s crisp and light and near perfect. Air brings intoxicating rose notes and wonderful spice. Elegant with just a bit of dried orange peel. The finish shows the tart wild red strawberry with that pretty rose floral and gentle spice streak. It’s lovely and really well balanced. I always seem to find roumier to be very almost abstract and spherical. (Can still remember the 93 Amoureuses from maybe 15-20 years ago). So it’s a meld of some red fruits and florals,’savory notes with beautiful gentle spices. Finish starts off with a tart red pulse and shows the grippy tannins and the meld of the red fruits and the florals and spices fades beautifully. This is banging right now. Wow. Nose - 5-5.5/6, Palate - 5.5-6/6, Finish - 5.5-6/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5-2/2 = 17.5-19.5/20.

(Roumier Chambolle Musigny) Nice nose of cherries, barnyard, spice and some mineral stankiness. Palate was mid-weight with nice complexity and explosiveness. Good fruit but definetly not stuffed. Seamless but still seemed to be holding back. I would hold for three more years. Kept opening and closing all night and eventually became aromatically closed but definetly improved on the palate all night.
