To begin with, the wine was not poured into the ideal white Burgundy glass. In the nose, I also detected an unpleasant smell that reminded me of soap, and it was still there after an hour, albeit to a lesser extent! In the mouth, the wine was light and had no high point and a short finish. On the other hand, there was nothing wrong with the bottle to say that it really wasn't tasty, but this bottle has long since passed its prime. The question is, was this a great Montrachet? I have my doubts!

I was blinded on this and totally stumped. It was obviously a grand Chardonnay, but I pegged this as being at least a decade younger. This is big and bold and floral even a touch tropical--albeit in a way that enhances rather than detracts. This has gained complexity with age but it's still lively enough. I don't think this is getting any better but it's quite tasty now.

A few highlights from a celebration (Northbrook, IL): Very ripe fruit - somewhat tropical with apricot alongside lemon and lime peel. Not much acidity. Showing its age, but I certainly wouldn't call this "premox" because the wine is showing better than most 98s I've had recently.

Slightly corked unfortunately but it’s still drinkable with some hints of floral, full body and chewy structure. Finishing is rather short.
