  • Despite the bottle appearing to be in impeccable condition, upon cutting the capsule top it was clear that wine had leaked into the cap. Color was a vivid purplish garnet with substantial clear rim; nose was effusive with gorgeous secondary dark cherry, violets, spice cupboard, iron, sous bois and truffles. On first pour (post-decant) the wine was velvety and viscous, surprisingly rich and balanced. Sleek, very Vosne and satisfying. With two hours of airing, a good bit of the bloom came off the rose (so to speak). The nose grew a bit more stern, the prior balance was hindered by acidity that had been hiding behind the richness and viscosity that showed initially. While still quite good, it was not as luxuriant as it was immediately after decanting. With further airing (6-8 hours) the components seemed to harmonize a good bit more but well short of the initial intensity. I have one more bottle but will continue to cellar it indefinitely as I suspect it could use at least another 10 years to meld and develop tertiary characteristics. A volatile 92 now with a good 95 pt potential.

  • A cheeky 2000 Meo Camuzet Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Boudots for the road, sweet oak spices and premium oak toast instantly reminded me of Vosne Romanee, not surprising consider Aux Boudots is right next to Vosne Romanee. Tasted blind – Fresh mixed berries, hints of green notes but nicely integrated with the sweet oak spices. Drinking well with plenty of freshness left. Mongeard Mugneret, Vosne Romanee? 2011? (last bottle of the night!) (89/100)

  • Drank at Trivet
Could be mistaken for a Vosne-Romanee - Aux Malconsorts. Beautiful nose of blackberries and raspberries with a rich deep palate.

  • Needed about an hour or so to open, and then showed a good amount or iron and blood amidst the red fruit. With more air, opens further to flowers and fruit . . . and then the oak comes on strong.
R's bottle, Acker auction at Marea.

  • Domaine Wine Storage Holiday Party (Domaine Wine Storage - Chicago, IL): Much better than the bottle I had at Berserkerfest. This was just pure Bugundian bliss. Obviously, the style of Meo can be a bit hefty, but I've been a fan of their complexity and depth despite the influence of oak. This had a perfectly spiced nose with great earthy elements. Its palate was lithe and beautiful, a great wine of a cold night in Chicago.
