  • More expressive and filled out than when last drank in 2015. Colour of golden hay. Nose is initial lifted acetone followed by mangosteen, hints of durian and various fresh white nuts such as macadamia. Palate of wonderfully warm and rounded stone-ness together with fresh banana and a melody of white fruits in manuka honey with a slightly Greek yoghurt component. Rich and head-filling on a very long finale. Captivating and very contemplative. This was one of my "Cuvee Privee de La Famille Drouhin" bottles released in 2014 only after the family had re-tasted them.

  • Lunch at The Ocean (The Ocean, 3/F, The Pulse, Repulse Bay Beach Road, Hong Kong): Decanted for an hour and then drank slowly to accompany a superb 8-course seafood-themed lunch. From the Drouhin Family 2014 cellar release. Deep but bright yellow colour. Nose is very muted, understated new tennis balls. palate is dry as a Beaune, beautifully rounded and resonant with the slightest almond and lemon notes.....you have to chase after it. Palate is very crisp minerality, almost flinty...all elegance, lightness but ephemeral power. Actually, this sneaks up on you at the finale and has a very powerful reverberance. Absolutely gorgeous and perfect with the lightness and finesse of the lunch dishes.

  • A Day at the Office (Crow's Nest): I'll go ahead and assume this is past prime. It wasn't as noticeable at first, but over a little time the oxidized/maderized nose came forward. Lots of nutty qualities on nose and palate. I found this rather odd, particularly due to the fact that a year ago I had an '88 that was absolutely gorgeous? Maybe in 5 years this one will come back around? WHo knows.
