Pale purple in glass. Notes of dates, figs, sherry, though not particularly sweet. At first a little austere on the nose and palate, but opened up quite florally.

From magnum. Lovely stone fruit Pinot nose. Surprisingly forward for a de Montille, quite light and simple but delicious. Decanted for an hour or so but doesn't really need it.

Pale, limpid, persistent pinot fragrance, gently strawberry, round on the palate, no structure quite sweet - this is rather lovely, quite simple, like a very superior bourgogne - essence of pinot

Showing some development in the colour with a hint of browning at the rim. Delightful nose - best feature - classic Pommard rounded berry fruit with lots of redcurrant, a little cranberry and a hint of blackcurrant. To taste, after 3 hours from opening, accomplished in the vintage context - refined fruit with great balance but there is no denying the dilution here. Red berries again and the first signs of some secondary development but a little thin and a watery finish. A big pour brings out some intensity on the nose. This will develop but will always be a touch dilute I suspect - depth of fruit is no more than in Montille's 02 Bourgogne for me even if there is more nuance. It needs to make up for the lightness with greater intensity than it is showing at present.

(de Montille Pommard 1er Cru "Rugiens") This was a nice drink. Definetly had the stamp of the 2000 vintage in that it lacked some depth. It was pretty aromatically and a touch dilute but had good foresty and red/black fruit character along with fully resolved tannins. Did gain in aromatic complexity as it aerated and gained impressive depth on the palate. Sweet fruit and adequate acidity rounded off this puppy.

Leiden in Burgundy November 2011; 11/3/2011-11/5/2011: Red fruit nose, some mushroom. Cherry taste, very clean, soft, velvety, hardly any tannins.
