Dauvissat "La Forest" (mainly) Vertical (1995-2009) (RN74, San Francisco): From magnum. Very mineral and racy (if not altogether youthful), this was nonetheless the first sample to display the truffle or mushroom profile of mature Chablis. Again proving that bottle size matters, quite fresh and stable long after being opened, and a reminder that not all '98s suffer from premature oxidation. A solid end to the flight.

Fifteen Year Dauvissat Vertical-Focus on La Forest (RN 74, San Francisco): From magnum. Deeper color than the '99 Preuses. Less fine and airy smelling than that wine, but still pretty classic initial impression. As it opens, some wood begins to stick out and then a mature mushroom/truffle aroma. Pretty big wine with lower acidity than most of the others. This is completely mature and needs to be consumed. Better than my expectation, though, perhaps because of the larger format bottle.

syrah smackdown (Barrington IL, Wally's house): nose: like walking into an armory on the nose as it is dominated by gun flint and gun powder tones with loads of minerals, sea shells and lemon peel tones behind it. good depth and really nice evolved flavors
taste: good light feel that is lacking on the mid palate with tones of gun flint, sea shells, and lemon peels with some bits of white fruits. The acidity is well in check right now. While it is very intriguing on the nose, it lacks a bit on the palate as it just doesn't carry through the depth that was present on the nose
overall: an interesting and mature chablis. Really nice on the nose, but lacks a bit on the palate, of course this was a pop n pour, so there may have been some added depth with more air, but I didn't get a chance to revisit this

Pre-Birthday Warmup Dinner with Friends (Yusho - Chicago IL): Fairly fresh orchard fruit aromas, certainly more mature and simple flavors, also slightly short.
