Christie's Dinner After HdB Tasting (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): Two more bottles opened tonight, both again from the Charlie Trotters cellar. First was very advanced and tired. Second was much better to start with ripe and age appropriate stone fruit aromas and flavors. Very charming when first poured, this was very good for 15 minutes, then started a slow decline, but still good when finished at the one hour mark.

Christie's Smith Haut Lafitte Dinner (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): Two bottles opened, both from the Charlie Trotter cellar sold a few years back. first was golden and advanced, but nicely drinkable, probably 88 points to start. Second was gloriously concentrated and intense with buckets of ripe fruit and just enough acidity. Bottle was popped-and-poured, then kept getting better and better for 30-40 minutes. Less intense or powerful when re-tasted a few hours later.

Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Tru - Chicago IL): Starts with wintergreen, ripe apple and faint tropical and vanilla hints. Same flavor profile with very good concentration and excellent structural balance for the vintage. This was popped and poured, best (93) when first poured vs an hour later (91).

Unlike my previous bottles, this was in perfect shape, and was head and shoulders above other 97s I've drunk. A very mineral nose with a touch of bacon fat and some wood showing. A rich palate with surprising acidity. A bit too short to be great but a wonderful surprise from this premox-dogged year (and producer).

A delicious white wine from a vintage that really wasn’t destined to age. There was some fruit rind development characters along with a hint of vanilla. It was round and relatively complex with sneaky persistence.
