  • From magnum. Appealing dark spice notes, dense fruit, and earthy elements. 93-94

  • Cork wet through, and the contents haven't survived. Drinkable, but very much old wine that could be pretty much anything that started off fresh with good acidity — served blind I guessed Rioja from the 60s or earlier.

  • Nose: Very ripe strawberrry, soy, mushroom, spice, florals and old leather chair. Bit of a roasted character at the outset, but it gave way to a beautiful old wine. Palate: Thinness at the start gained weight quickly. Torched cherries, orange peel, sous bois and earthy raspberry. Complexities mixed in with nice Volnay minerality made this very enjoyable. Finish: Red berries, earth, minerals and some spice notes.

The La Pousse required some slow ox to coax all of its charms out, but it was definitely worth the wait This was the star on the table, and an unexpected one on my part. Exceptional

  • The top of the cork slightly shrank but the rest is quite sound. Bright and clear yet slightly browning. Strong note of soy, strawberry candy, Vietnamese salty dried plum soda, mineral, rusted metal, cinnamon and earth. Very clear, medium concentration but it is hard to be certain at this stage, once again Vietnamese salty dried plum soda, salty and sour, bright acidity, slightly rustic and slightly oxidative finish. Fully mature but not much sous bois, the age is expressed as soy note. With air, it gains a bit of weight, fruit gets sweeter, a hint of mint but the overall impression remains similar. My guess is that this didn’t come from a perfect sub 52 cellar but still cellared reasonably. I was yearning for sweet fruits, Asian spices and sous bois but no luck. This is very mineral driven wine with bright acidity. It is a bit coarse and rustic. Nevertheless it is still good wine that will go well with a simple and clean yet hearty fatty meat dish like Pot-au-Feu.

  • Tasted blind, this wine showed a deep red center with some orange at the rim. The medium+ intensity nose of sour cherries, stewed tomatoes, and soil was nice.

In the mouth, this wine was medium bodied with light rounded tannin and good length. It was a bit dry at first but developed with air to show more fruit.

While this wine was well balanced, it need a bit more flavor delineation to break into elite territory.
