Spent almost all of its life since 1986 at 47 degrees - unmoved. Still tannic albeit with almost monumental elegant and rich extract creeping in at the finish. Still five/ten years away, When it comes good, it will stun.

This wine has actually benefited from further ageing. It remains tough, coarse, totally not Volnay, but the power of the fruit extract has come significantly more forward. A good drink, but still a tough drink. But like pretty much all well stored 1983's that are still alive, and all of mine are, this wine has really impressive, albeit in this case quite dry, length.
24 hours on - half bottle on the sideboard uncorked - in fine shape. Not a hint of oxidation. If anything, softer and a bit more easy on the palate.

A remarkable wine it its way. When opened your basic 1983 red burgundy profile. Lots of hard tannin dry prune impact which eventually, yes eventually, gives way for a bit to a beautifully elegant and extracted red fruit finish. Originally rated the at 86, but a day later - yes a day later and this is a 1983, the wine seemed more integrated without a hint of oxidation. Like most 1983's, not an easy drink, but just maybe that exquisite fruit at the finish is worth the price of admission.

Warm spice, nutmeg, earth and cherry. Resolved palate but still vibrant and fresh. Lovely sweetness.

Pretty nose but fruit is fading fast. This bottle should have been consumed 10 years ago.
