  • My expectations were quite low for this wine. Not Cru-classified and given its age, the moldy cork and the soft air noise I got when I popped open, I thought it may have been a little too late. Was I wrong! First, the cork came out whole and cleanly. Although the state of the cork reflected its age, there seemed to be no leakage, so that was good news. I poured a taste and the nose was quite powerful but it needed a few minutes to release that "I've been in here for 30 years" smell. The color is a faded red with a dark bloody-brick rim. The nose is mature but pleasant, with worn saddle leather, tobacco and lots of barnyard notes. It's truly surprising and almost as remarkable as the palate. Tannins have almost faded, so the texture is silky smooth. The fruit is very evident, notes of sweet tart cherry, along with herbs, mushrooms and spices. Twenty second finish, at least. Amazing. WOTN.
