  • Drinking quite well. Great underbrush on the nose, palate fills in after 1 hour open. Good overall balance, but a slight bit of bitterness on the short finish.

  • Medium garnet core, wide pale garnet rim. Developed nose, showing liquorice, dark fruit, mulch notes - with a nice balance between fruit and decay. Medium bodied, attractive autumnal bilberry fruit on the attack, touch of liquorice, tannins now quite soft though still just discernible at the end. This has nice fresh acidity, and savoury notes on the medium/good length finish. Very good mature village burgundy - probably for now and over the next 5 years or so.

  • A Special Dinner (Park 75, Four Seasons Hotel, Atlanta): Berry fruit, a little spice, but lacking concentration in the middle. Not bad, and it fills in a little with air, but not great.

  • Pale/medium garnet core, wide pale verging on mahogany rim. Nose shows earthy red fruit, some spice, and a gently gamey edge. Good, fresh, slightly aged burgundy nose. On the palate this is just about medium bodied, with a nice initial attack showing red cherries, game and soil notes. There are still some firmish tannins on the mid-palate, although these do ameliorate slightly as the wine warms (served at 17C, perhaps slightly too cold for this particular wine), and the wine has nice fresh acidity. Then tannins do intrude slightly on the medium length finish, but there is some nice savoury game flavours and a touch of liquorice. Certainly an intellectual wine rather than a hedonistic one, even by burgundy standards, but not one without merit - it has nice complexity and freshness and went down well with some good pork loin chops. More time may well soften those tannins but the jury is out on whether the fruit will outlast them. On balance my vote is in favour and I think I will leave my other bottle another 3-5 years.

  • This is a wine that has very nice structure. Texture is smooth and silky. There is, however, very little aroma and flavor. It gives the impression of being closed up tight, but considering the age of the wine I'm somewhat unsure about what will become of this wine. If it opens up, then it will be outstanding. Let's hope it does before it's too late.
