  • Cork came out clean with a pop, wet 1/3 up showing proper storage. Excellent bottle complex and delicious but a bit more advanced than some of the stars I've had from the 70s. Looking forward to opening another.

  • 3/09 Potent nose - powerful fruit with resolved refined structured finish - excellent balance - elegant - polished - opened within half an hour to fuller fruit and softer tannins - no sign of "fade" in an aspect - light sediment - perfect bottle condition - this will last thru 2030. 94 pts.

  • This bottle followed a bottle of 1961 Canon, what a night we were having. Everyone loved this mature and elegant Napa Cab. It open with cork intact, no mold and we did not decant. The nose was so spectacular I had to slow down to enjoy it and not plunge right into this wine. It was perfectly balanced and very complex with notes of warm leather, riper than ripe cassis and clean oak, we detected small hints of earth and spice but the fruit dominated here. The body was full, syrupy and dark red in the glass. As we tasted this wine the perfectly ripe fruit and oak were integrated so well with the still present tannic backbone that we all just stared into the glass in amazement. The bottle stayed strong the whole 2 hours + and developed more spice and earth in the mouth as time went on. This wine was in the California Cab style, big and fruity after all these years but Stags Leap seems bring an incredible elegance to their wines of every year I have tasted.
