My last bottle of anything 1999 from this winery, and that sucks!
Color: A deep red robe of garnet, a vibrant claret!
Nose: The youthful color deceives the taster as the nose is definitely mature with leather, cigar wrapper, but there are ripe currants and black cherry, loamy earth.
Palate: The attack is immediate, and expands over the mid palate and persists easily to the finish, a classic Napa claret, not a monster cab. Oak is just about nowhere to be found, as the currants and cherry take center stage on the palate, with classic Stag's Leap silky tannin, good acidity too.
I wish more wines were made this way in Napa these days...subtle, yet powerful in expression.

Waited too long on this one. Fading rim, slightly musty nose, fruit spent. It was probably verybgood a few years ago, but should have retired before it lost a step.

Good wine, but it is either fading or in a flat spot, very light on the fruit, but still had decent tannins and was very smooth. I think it is probably near the end of its drinking window.

Meh ...expected more. Good structure, but the fruit has faded...could this one be closing down. Lots of acidity, good finish, it just does not have any interesting flavors ... I'd gamble and wait a few more years to see if it comes out of hibernation ...
