  • This was from my father in laws cellar. Pop and poured, with filter. Gorgeous deep crimson color with orange on the edges. The smell was complex, cellar floor and mushroom. Some cherry notes and a nice bite. Same as reviewer below, while past it’s prime this was fun to try and the bottle was gone at end of the night. Would have loved to have tried this ten years ago!

  • Purchased from winery a few years back. Opened for NYE 2020. The bottle had a good amount of sediment (no surprise there), but carefully filtered that out and was left with a nice wine. Cork was in great shape.

Definitely a bit past its prime. All the fruit has left, but it had the nice tertiary notes - sour cherry, a bit acidic. However, when all was said and done, the bottle was empty at the end of the night. Really nice to see how this wine can age, even if it was a bit past its prime. I prefer my SLVs around 5-10 years of age. Drink up.

  • Praelum - American Beauties (Praelum Wine Bistro): Quite a clear garnet colour. Expansive nose of undergrowth and mushrooms. Acidic, and a intense hit of sour cherry, cassis, strawberry, fern, dried lavender, and smoked meats. On the finish, the sour fruits quickly fade, leaving the dried florals and cocoa. While quite obvious that age has long caught up with it and hence the fading fruits, I still thought the balance was pretty good

  • I was a little wary when the cork crumpled on opening (stored properly). Thankfully, it was not flawed. Visually, the wine presents a deep garnet with a brick red rim. It has aromas of stewed prune, earthy tones of forest floor, and cedar. I was surprised with its vibrant acidity and tartness with flavors of dark cherry, prunes, tea leaves, and a touch of licorice on the finish. Medium+ body, medium+ finish, medium+ acidity, medium- alcohol, with gentle tannins. It’s still very drinkable for an old dame, certainly not past its prime. It was the last bottle of this I had in the cellar, so I won’t have anything to compare later. I’d recommend drinking now or within the next 3 years.
