Lion d’Or in Geneva. Opened this after drinking a fair amount of white Burgundy on a beautiful terrace setting overlooking Lake Geneva….but with those caveats for rose-tinted glasses, this was drinking exceptionally. Reminded me of a great Cote Rotie or Hermitage w 20-25 years on it - that chiseled, taught but smooth drinking. Great minerality and wore its alcohol so wonderfully. Viva Le Velvet Club.

Somewhat of a bucket list wine for me; drank with NY steaks and baked ricotta; this is a remarkable wine in part because it has no resemblance at all to current Chateauneuf much of which I find borderline undrinkable; the nose here is earthy with tobacco, garrigue, crushed stone; then comes in ripe dark berry fruits and some hints of spring flowers; the palate is bold, but incredibly balanced; there is a lots of structure in the form of slightly rustic tannins, but the density of the fruit smoothes them over. The label says 15%, but I'd never have guessed it blind as it doesn't feel heavy or hot. It is long and complex, continuing to open and develop over 2 hours. Really incredible stuff. I need to explore Bonneau's wines further!
Starting to turn a little secondary. Some dry red fruits. Overall drinking quite well already but will certainly only get better with more cellar time.

La Tablee: Bonneau retrospective (Mercerie): Fresh and bright and big red fruits and lots of structure and much too young but this is going in a nice direction.

Rhone Dinner (Circus Private Kitchen, Kimberley Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong): No detailed notes, unfortunately - this was a very special wine but waaay too young. Come back in 10 years? Even better, I'd love to drink the 1990 which seems like when these wines reach a window that most appeal to me.
