  • Oxidized. Sad. Looked forwarded to it

  • Value for money, arguably the best White Bordeaux available. Mostly Sauvignon Blanc with a touch of our good friend Sémillon, it is fun on the nose and delightful on the palate with a slightly sour and long finish. It is not Y or Haut-Brion or Cos d'Estournel, but it is excellent!

  • While chatting with our neighbour, I noticed he had several cases of the 2011 Chateau Talbot Caillou Blanc under the kitchen table. I mentioned our love for all things Talbot and, voila, a properly chilled bottle was opened and poured. For the uninitiated, this Bordeaux white drop is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. We do NOT like Sauvignon Blanc as a general rule given it simply is grapefruit juice with alcohol and usually over-acidic. At least that is the experience one often has with the famous Kiwi version. This wine benefits greatly from the smidgen of Semillon in terms of evening out the acidity and providing some body to the otherwise flimsy grapefruit juice. Citrus on the nose with a hint of oak, solid on the palate with a nice, fairly long finish, we rank the Caillou as, arguably, the best value Bordeaux white. It is not Haut-Brion or Ygrec, but it is darn good, far less expensive and easier to find.
