  • Eye: A golden-straw in the center going towards a green-gray in the rim.

Nose: Grass, peach, spiced apple sauce, salt, glue, esters.

Palette: Tongue tingling High acidity. Lemon, tropical fruit, stone fruit, gin-botanicals. Quite a bit of unctuous lees character. A little cat’s pee and bitter citrus peel.

Finish: Moderate length. My tongue continues to buzz from acidity and feel the weight of the oak and creaminess of the lees for a good length of time after the taste has faded.

Overall: I highly agree with a review I saw which said this wine is more about how it feels in the mouth than its flavor. The taste is a little difficult to parse, but the varieties in mouth texture are tremendously apparent.

  • Bought at Chateau Talbot. One of the first whites produced in Medoc, made from 45 year old vines, a blend of 73% SB and 27% Semillon, aged for 8 months on its lees with batonnage in 33% new oak. Medium golden colour. Medium+ intensity rich round aroma of lemon peel, honey, acacia, mango, peach. Medium+ body, concentrated and dense with tense structure and well balanced juicy high acidity, rich layered flavours echoing aroma, lengthy clean and refreshing finish.
