  • Fin moden hvit bordeaux. Fet, litt kalkaktig på duft. Fremdeles en del frukt igjen i vinen og noe eikepreg (uten at det ødelegger)

  • Over the hill and oxidized to some extent. Green apple, candle wax and caramel notes. Acidic type finish with burnt almond and pineapple. Dense and full bodied. Just a little old. Drink up.

  • Tuesday Night $25-$40 Double Blind (Bin 75): Solid yellow with green hues; pineapple screams, baked apple, oxidative, smoke, wax; served too cold, waxy, wood tannin, barrel fermentation, good acid, ashy, grainy finish, somber; called '06 Carbonnieux due to the ripeness.

  • A very unique aromatic profile, reminiscent of a sweet wine, with overripe stone fruit like an apricot left for a long time in the summer heat. The wine's dryness on the palate really comes as a surprise given the sweetness of the nose. Good acidity and satisfying aftertaste. An obviously overmature wine but enjoyable in its own right.

  • (Grüner Veltliner Tasting at WineGate) Obviously not a part of the tasting, but I brought it as a last wine treat, last bottle I had which I had kept for an occasion like this one.
A world of difference from the previous one. Complex and oh so different nose offering ultra ripe bordering to rotten apple and pear with a few sweet spicy notes (nutmeg).
The same pattern is followed in the palate as well with spicy apple chatney being the obvious picture in my head, high acidity that keeps it vibrant, it doesn't lack body. Fully mature is one way of putting it, I dont think it can get any better than this. It has obviously been going downhill for some time, but by no means it was flawed. It is one of those wines that will make wine geeks argue for ages on what is the "proper" white wine drinking window.
I am glad I kept that bottle though, what an experience that was!
