  • I have always liked this particular wine more on the nose as opposed to the palate, where it has been consistently dilute, and my last bottle is no exception. Still, for the vintage, I don't think there can be too many complaints.

The nose is rather classic, though, with black & red fruit and tar scents. Just ends up being a little light-weight on the palate, with an abbreviated finish.

  • Opened and double decanted for sediment at the beginning of the day then rebottled and in a cooler for most of the morning/afternoon before being pulled out for dinner. I tend to think the air might have done the wine well as this was in a really nice spot. Very balanced. Still has fruit, but also more secondary. Drank next to an '00 Giacosa barolo - this was the more powerful but slightly less elegant version. Both great wines though.

  • Very complicated wine, it is one of my absolute favs ever generally, the one bottle that got me into Nebbiolo and Piedmontese wines... but that night... although the nose is nicely vibrant and fragrant, minty, eucalyptus, nice balsamic evolution, the palate is harsh and still tannic, ripeness might have missed a bit there... or needs more decanting, I did opened up 2/3 hours before , then I decanted after the first pours, did not showed so much better... one left to figure out... :)

  • A day 2 glass; I have a head cold right now, but I do like this nose.

This has always been somewhat dilute on the palate, but given the vintage, still drinking well. Decent length.

  • This really has held up beautifully. No sense of being over the hill, but also no sense of being youngish, so probably is in a very good drinkable range. A half hour after opening it started to show really well. Nose was full of roses and a bit of tar. Palate was rich with fruit, earth, licorice. Good acidity and moderate tannins carried it on for quite a while.
