  • Last of 12, opened 45 minutes, perfect cork and level, as last October's bottle, very lovely but starting to lose fruit so drink up. VF (18.5).

  • 11th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, back on top form, grand cru structure and weight, excellent balance and drive, probably at or just past peak for well stored bottles but has stuffing to last. VF (18.5).

  • Leflaive & Rousseau dinner at Jade Palace. A "mini 99 tasting". Second "ringer". This was clearly the Sauzet. Everyone picked it up. Very different from the Leflaives on show, and just further confirms my thoughts that Leflaive is head and shoulders above any other white maker. Deep gold, darkest in colour and the most reductive. Sweetened pineapples, Indian mangoes, canned peach, manuka honey, toast and nuts. This was a somewhat "heavy" wine, but lacked the opulence, fleshiness and beauty of the Leflaives. Rather nutty on the palate, with matchstick, cinnamon, toast and sweetened fruit. Decent enough wine but not my sort of white.

  • 9th of 12, previous notes fine or better though 1 bottle corked - pale yellow, bright; mineral over flowers, fresh, classy bouquet, very pure; medium, long and persistent, notably structured and angular, mineral, misses some richness of fruit but nicely balanced, may yet improve, just pipped by Colin Caillerets 02 on same night. Fine plus (18/20).
