Wines Tasted at the La Paulée Verticals Session (The Maybourne, Beverly Hills): Light ruby. Something estery and off about the nose. Medium bodied but round, glycerine feel. Smoky black fruit, some green tones, excellent acidity, long vein of earth, and a somewhat harsh, tannic finish. I wonder if this was a pristine bottle. On the other hand, I had a similarly difficult time with it last year. Certainly bigger than the 2016, but not better, at least at this point. Its hard to be sanguine about its long term prospects as it may have some problems.

Quite tight at first but breathes up nicely. There's spice laden cherry and plum fruits. It is rich, layered and generous, with a velvety feel against the gums. There's good mineral detail and an expansive finish. Mid-weight, balanced and delicious.

La Paulée de Los Angeles - The Verticals (Maybourne Hotel - Beverly Hills CA): Walkaround vertical tasting. Bigger, ripe, and bolder than the 2016 but with less energy or textural brilliance. Slightly firm still and also very cellarworthy.

The Verticals Tasting at 2023 La Paulée (Eventi Hotel, New York): Deep red. Slightly confected nose. Medium + weight. Dry, earthy finish. Hard to read now. Much more closed than when tasted in 2018.
