Wow this is different (in a good way). Deep yellow/gold color, almost orange. By the looks you would think it is over the hill / oxidized but that wasn’t the case. Med acidity, citrus and mineral flavors. I previously had a 2008 at a restaurant that was surprisingly good, and just picked up 12-14 thru auction. Curious how those are.

This is an exceptionally good Chardonnay in its drinking zone. While it is plenty rich and mixes honey with tropical fruit and nectarine on the palate, there is still plenty of acidity and no overt oakiness, which gives this wine a nice balance. Loads of complexity and nice long finish.

As pointed out in my detailed tasting note from October 2021, this is an exceptional California Chardonnay (assuming you enjoy the richer, more buttery style). If I hadn’t seen the label, I would have pegged this for a well aged Village or Premier level Chassagne Montrachet, or Meursault (French White Burgundy). Still a few secondary notes, but mostly tertiary, indicating this is in the early mature phase. Balanced, Lengthy, Intense, and Complex. Perfect with the baked Chilean Sea Bass over riced Cauliflower and Broccoli florets, topped with white Queso cheese. Drink through 2025+.

This is better than I remembered; it still has a lot of acidity, so it will probably last another 5 years in the cellar
