  • A vestige of its former self. I once rated this wine a near perfect 98. A glimpse of a nectar honey slightly off on the finish with a tinge of rust. Much less unctuous than at its peak.

  • Passed its prime, but still a good drink. Bet this was a good one in its day, but I had it buried at the bottom of the chiller and forgotten until I entered it here. Darkened color and a fruity nose, paired pretty well with orange chicken.

  • This bottle was a mere shadow of the wine I tasted and scored a 98 several years back. I am hoping it is more a question of bottle variation than decline in its overall vitality. Half of the bottle remains so a second tasting is due this evening.

  • This was served with a smoked trout, goat cheese appetizer. The wine was amazing. Deep honey golden color in the glass. Dessert like richness, unctious nectar. A big wine, probably better served on its own. Maybe after dinner?

  • This still has a lot of fruit, and the years have mellowed it considerably. This is now just about perfect. Color is straw yellow, mouthfeel is silky, and the cloying, overpowering character of this wine when young has now gone, leaving a dryer, more integrated presentation. But I fear it will start to decline soon, so drink it in the next few years. Interesting contrast with the 1994 ZH Riesling Brand, which has dried out even more. That could simply be a matter of bottle variation; I only had one bottle of each so I don't know.
