Wendouree survey (Chicago, IL): Plenty of black cherry, with again the ripe, aldehydic notes of the malbec dominating here. Slight bitterness from the tannins on the back end that also detract. Not as convincing as the non-malbec wines.

This wine is excellent. Pours a deep purple color. Nose is brambly with blackberry patch and soil. Very deep, intenselt flavored with good acidity, not too rustic but a little.. built for age. Not to overdo it, but I thought this Wendouree was good the way that MacDonald is good. It’s concentrated without being over, ripe or over, extracted, balanced, not too much of anything. Deep penetrating flavor that comes across as really authentic.

This was terrific. Rather elegant and mid weight, with dark currants and lovely herbal character giving this lift and complexity. Quite well composed and balanced. Accessible now but as it’s perfectly balanced will age gracefully. Reminiscent of Pichon Lalande.

A Wendouree that benefited from a night to breath and being poured into the proper glass. In a Riedel stemless last night, surprisingly showed signs of fading and a good medium-bodied palate but without the intensity expected of the vintage nor after tasting the potent, unevolved 15 Shiraz Malbec.
Tonight, all is as it should be, out of a big (pretentious) Riedel Cabernet glass. Great colour, very dark. Impeccable varietal nose. Cassis, currant, some Malbec jube/gum drop, tobacco, graphite, violets even. Barely any regional/house eucalypt. Profound and lovely.
A serious but elegant Cab palate. Red and black berries, tobacco tannin, mildly grippy/chalky but in balance with the depth of dark fruit, good length with a savoury lick on the finish. A blend for lovers of not only Wendouree or Clare blends, but Cabernet full stop. 20-30 years ahead, easy.
