  • Nice ruby colour no fading, not overstrong berry nose with some blackcurrant, dry medium mouthful , some acidity keeps it fresh, not a complicated wine but well made and good value.

  • This is my 2nd time in a short span and last bottle from my chiller. Easy to drink and very approachable cooler region Shiraz from Aussie. A good wine to pair with grilled meats

  • 01122022 - took leave from work today for a quick reset from a hectic Q.
Decent bottle to start the evening - rather muted nose with sour cherry, hint of eucalyptus and some dried spices.
Palate: medium body with medium acidity. Easily approachable with plenty of red fruit & minerality notes towards the finish. Enjoyed this as I was not expecting the typical punchy shiraz from the warmer regions in Aus. Great QPR and easily a daily drinking bottle

  • Clear medium ruby; clean medium plus nose of red cherries and earth; dry; medium plus acidity; medium plus alcohol; medium plus body; medium plus flavour intensity; palate is tarter; medium plus finish; drink now; decent wine - more precise than I was expecting; wished for more complexity

  • 2017 Clonakilla Hilltops Shiraz was perfumed and flavourful. The youthful New South Wales Shiraz was clear and deep ruby in colour with some rod-shaped sediments. Pronounced perfume of bramble, black plum, violet and white flowers were followed by earth, ginger and black pepper spices.

The mouthfeel was dry and medium-full-bodied, with a medium level of acidity and a rather high level of polished tannin. There were consistent flavours of black cherry, blackberry, crushed flowers and liquorice in a medium spiced finish. The 14% alcohol was well-concealed. The empty bottle weighed 468 grams. I would probably have guessed an entry-level Côte-Rôtie, had it been tasted blind, because of its expressive floral perfume and restraint on the palate.

The Shiraz grapes are sourced from five vineyards near Young in the Hilltops district of South Western Slopes in New South Wales. Winemaking information is not provided on the winery website, but the geeky technical data. The pH of the wine is 3.79, with 6.3 grams per litre of titratable acidity. The amount of free sulphur dioxide is 38 milligrams per litre. The level of residual sugar is less than 0.3 grams per litre.
