  • I loved it. Great minerality, damp forest floor, morel mushrooms, pure reddish fruit marmalade. Long persistent finish.

  • Winebar [4 Whites, 8 Reds, & 6 *shared* bottles] from 01/03/19 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Frank, THANK you for allowing me the opportunity to retaste this Burgundy! :)

"The parcel of Lavières, at an altitude of 250m, is slightly sloped. Its calcareous colluvial ground at the foot of the slope is of rather deep and stony, clayey-muddy soil. The vinestocks are between 20 & 35 years old. The vines at the origin of our Nuits Saint Georges Vieilles Vignes (Old Vines), located at an altitude of 245m, grow on a shallow alluvial cone, calcareous & stony, at the bottom of the slope. On the whole, the field consists of 2.45 ha in appellation Nuits Saint Georges."

N: Vanilla slightly atop blkberries? Flowers with swirling? Intensity lurking?

P: LM body; RNDISH entry with NICE, almost swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which stays within hailing distance of the init frt as it morphs into a LONG, BALANCED finish with the potential for eventual elegance for the tangy/swt, dusty tannins. NEEDS through '22, poss '23, then drinking through '27? My EXC, higher... eventually? 91 pts WS; [This vendor's $48.95 is in the middle of wine-searcher's 3 postings.]

    Note: Today I noticed > structure than I had when tasted on 10/20/18 + 1/12 & 9/7/19.

N: Attractive blk rasps, wild straws, poss plums?

P: LM body; NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which ult quite resolves by the LONG, BALANCED finish with a potentially elegant tangy/swtness to the dusty tannins. NEEDS through '20, then drinking for 4-5 yrs more. My EXC-/EXC, trending towards the higher with time. 91 pts WS; [This vendor's $48.95 is now in the middle of wine-searcher's 3 skewed postings.]

N: ENTICING faded roses SLIGHTLY atop a melding of smoke, red rasps, & minerals, eventually spice

P: Med body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by a BIT astringent pucker which PRETTY much resolves by the LONG, balanced, but occasionally very, VERY slightly bitterish finish with a distinct swtness to the relatively few, very, VERY fine tannins. DESERVES through '19, then for 3 yrs more? My EXC-. [I could find no other U.S. source with which to compare this vendor's $48.95.]

Note: I found this more approachable than I had on 10/20/2018.
