Riserva which was the color of iced tea when opened yet retained a peppery, leather scented, typical nose of very evolved nebbiolo. This filled in and darkened in an amazing way looking fully red and downright youthful by the time we got to it. The nose remained very evolved with shoe leather, glue, charcoal and bouillon notes dominating with a touch of peppery spiciness. In the mouth this is fairly resolved and probably half a dozen years past peak but the more time it was given the better it got as it revealed a gently sweet core of fading fruit touched with a nuance of cinnamon like spice and lovely notes of decay. There remained solid acidity and tannins adding to the appeal of the mouthfeel. This bottle was mid-shoulder fill and showed well though I expect better bottles to offer a complete experience.
