Splash decanted directly prior to service, the 2018 M-S-D pours a deep ruby with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose the wine is youthful with powerful notes of ripe and tart red fruits: red cherries, red brambles, red flowers, some herbs and a healthy dollop of warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and luxurious. A fairly flashy wine and, to my palate, the oak is showing prominently right now. Not out of balance, but close. The alcohol is up there…but it is pretty well disguised. Not wimpy, that’s for sure. While this is certainly full of energy and character right now, I think this wine would enjoy some time in the cellar to show even better. Drink from 2028 through 2043.

It’s Dujac. As others have said not the biggest MSD nose but rich flavors, deep, complex, delicious with all the unique Dujac characteristics. It can go a few more years.

WhiskySomm comes into town pt. 2 (Carlton, OR): Even on pop and pour, this was a beauty. There is just so much purity and balance with just a bit of shyness that forces you to come closer. The theme here is: red. As in red fruits. They are showing off a lot of balance and poise with red cherries, raspberries, spice notes, plums, red berries, violets, rose petals, some herbs, and a touch of baking spices. The Medium bodied feel is poised and balanced with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. This certainly shows off the more forward side of the vintage, but it doesn't come close to being overbearing on the fruited side. Instead, this is a giant, delicious bowl of cherries that is immensely enjoyable from the first sip until the last.

I thought this put on a much better showing than half a year ago. Elegant and spicy, ripe strawberries, with good floral aromatics. Over time the fruits turned candied and sweet, but not in the cloying sense. This is one of those vintages which shows why stem inclusion works so well.

Nice red fruit. Great structure did acidity. Not exactly as fragrant for MSD as I would’ve thought but I do like this is easy 93.
