12x Bordeaux 1983 vs 1993: All wines tasted single blind. Not decanted. As anticipated, the 1983 vintage prevailed in our comparative tasting, scoring 8 to 2 wins against the 1993 vintage, with two ties. The structured, classic ’83s exhibited greater depth and harmony compared to the ‘93s, which tended to be simpler, sometimes slightly green and dry, or at their best, fresh and light. However, in both vintages, aside from a few notable labels, many wines were evidently beyond their peak. The standout was, unsurprisingly, the Margaux (94pts). Tasting the some of the same ’83s a second time a few days later with decanting showed a marked improvement, highlighting the need of aeration.
TN: The nose is fresh with dark fruits and herbal hints. The palate offers a creamy texture, showcasing dark berries, earthy notes, graphite, and some cola nuances. While the main aromas suggest potential, it's slightly let down by faint faulty notes and drying tannins. Drink up now. 86pts.

Bordeaux 1983 vs 1993 face-off: Scorched earth but also wet earth, nice and fresh – maybe even slightly unripe - cherry fruit and slight Cognac aromas. Even though there were some promising elements on the nose, the palate is overwhelmingly tannic, unfortunately.

So I bought a cellar; 11/12/2022-12/31/2030: This wine was fantastic last night. Opened at our 4th Friday gathering. I opened with a Durand, but the cork was in great condition and probably would have been fine with an ah so. Popped and poured, and that was all that was needed. So thank you CT notetakers, y’all steered me right. Beautiful crimson in the glass, with a nose of slight menthol, maybe some cedar, and red fruit. Soft mouthfeel with very mild, but noticeable tannins, and dark cherry, maybe a little mocha and coffee, and just a pleasure to drink. We had it without food, and it was great. Definitely not a big wine, and any red meat would overwhelm it. It was the wine of the night for me, against some stacked competition. I wish I had more bottles of this.

Bottle (re)discovered in my cellar ... 1993 ... what a good surprise. Opened it and drank it from the bottle without decanting, very nice nose, leathery, sous bois aroma. The taste is equally nice, very subtle and somehow powerful with finesse. A lovely bottle

As usual the wine of unbelievable quality! The 93 vintage is at the pick or even slightly beyond. It was a great pleasure to drink in the first hour and started to fade after 90 minutes. So if you have a bottle of this, do not decant and do not open in advance. Very gentle wine that I think women would like more.
