Cork soaked 1/4, came out in one piece. This is a surprisingly rich wine for the vintage.
Dark red colour. Nose is clearly oxidized (wife balked), and protrudes Bdx earth, olive brine and undergrowth. In the mouth it doesn't quite come together. Acidity is + and delicious. Tannins are a bit coarse but foody. Length, complexity etc is all in place. With all the good components, there is still a problem with the integration of its parts. There's a fifth wheel somewhere.
Not a wine I want to revisit.

Records not handy. Bought 6b, probably at live auction 18-20 years ago for under 20/b, incl all fees and taxes; this is #1. Very dark purple; blackcurrant nose, slightly tart, some graphite; subdued but rich dark berry fruit, very good mouthfeel; some persistence. Delicious, the best Gloria I've tasted (all non-trophy vintages) and at a good place now; glad I have more. Stored horizontally in a cool, dark basement since purchase. My evaluation: For me, scores on a "100-point scale" are misleading. I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. This is notable+ when considering quality, age, and price.
Nose: blackberry, cherry, cedar, tobacco and earth. Horsehair and brett notes, but not excessive. Palate: Straightforward but four square. Great dark fruit and cedar, but slightly woody. Strong tannin and lacking finesse. Finish: Very tannic and the black fruit fades quick.

The filling-level was upper mid shoulder, the wine was medium ruby in colour and threw a notable amount of sediment. It offered roses, dried flowers, dried black currant, dried cherry, cedar, leather, tobacco, horse stable, a hint of mint and balsamic notes on the nose. On the palate the wine showed red and dark fruit, dried cherry, cranberry, dried black currant, cedar, leather, tobacco, a hint of mint and balsamic notes, with medium-plus acidity, slightly underripe and bitter tannin and average length of the drying finish. This St.-Julien has passed its peak and seemed to be drying out. I liked the wine’s classic profile and wish I had had it five years ago. Drink up.

A pleasant surprise. The cork was perfect and came out like a charm. There's a bit of funk and old leather on the nose - no mistaking this for anything but Bordeaux. It's quite dark in the glass and medium bodied, with cedar, dark berries, a pleasant smokiness, and a hint of that funk from the nose. The finish is dry and long. Delicious wine and still in fine shape.
