Very consistent Cab. Enjoyed a glass on night 2 and it's still very powerful. Solid QPR. Recommend an hour or two decant. Tannins are present but silky and very much add to the complexity in a positive way.
Opened 24 hours earlier. Howell Mountain fruit to a T. Leaps from the glass with scents of tobacco leaf, blackcurrant, plum, and black pepper. Palate is well-structured with enough acidity and tannin to complement the plum and blackberry jam.

This was good but too young to drink. And it seemed more than just temporarily closed, it was stunted; as if not developing properly. Day one; it released very little fruit and only mildly attractive nose. Day two was better but not by very much. Darker fruit like blackberry and cassis, along with some oak, smoke and tannin. This producer has lost a step or 2 over the years. Another overhyped wine with wildly inflated scores from RP and others.
Three hour decant. Very very deep dark magenta color. Blackberry, blueberry, dark German chocolate cake, fennel, thyme, and pumpernickel. Very tongue drying palate, with sandy acidity. Firm tannins on the longish finish.
This has shut down a bit since my last bottle (a year ago). It would be great with steak, but it’s not great on its own. It’s austere and Bordeaux-esque at the moment. I expect major improvement a year from now.
I decanted this for the better part of the day before digging in. This was plush and aromatic right away that only comes from a mountain Cab. This has excellent depth and balance to the tones of dark red cherries, raspberries, licorice, chocolate, oak, plums, vanilla extract, black currants, toast, nutmeg, and violets. The Full bodied feel is larger scaled, yet balanced with silky, high tannins and crisp, medium acidity. At first when I checked on it, the oak was a bit too prominant. But, with ~7+ hrs of air, the oak does integrate better and reveals a classic Howell Mountain Cab.
