  • Impromptu Barbaresco and Fresh Venison Dinner (New Jersey, USA): Double decanted at 3pm and brought by a friend to our impromptu Barbaresco and Venison dinner. Decanted on arrival around 4:30 and tasted over the ensuing 5 hours. It is a translucent light to medium garnet color. The nose is very enticing with floral and herbal notes along with cherry and some earthy aromatics. Palate has good acidity but relatively soft tannin for Nebbiolo. There is plenty of tart red fruit like sour cherry, plum, under-ripe pomegranate and cranberry. Nice depth and length with an overall elegant style. This was effusive initially but the nose got more reticent over time. Early on the wine was excellent but it faded rather quickly 2-3 hours after decanting, to ultimately being overshadowed by 2 single vineyard Produttori Barbaresco’s which were slower to open up but were richer and more distinctive in the end.

  • Noble Nebbiolo masterclass with Poderi Colla at 67PM.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, bright ruby colour with translucent bricking rim. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of special red cherries, light floral rose petals, ripe strawberry. Developing.
On the palate, dry, lovely high acidity, medium+ alcohol, very fine high tannins, elegant full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of nicely ripe strawberries, classic sour red cherries, light red licorice, flower petal juice. Long juicy finish.
Very good quality. Some of these 2018s are really a joy to drink already. Some upside over the next few years also.

  • Grand Cru Portfolio Tasting (3/9 Grand Cru Portfolio Tasting, NYC): So very light-bodied; delighted to discover these 2018s! 300 yo estate. Robe is a pale brown. One of ITA's smallest parcels at 13 ha; they own 8ha. Palate is so supple on entry, sneaky tannic finish.

  • 4,1 - Geproefd op domein. Opener dan de 2017, stuk beter. Mooie genuanceerde wijn, bloemig, lekker fruit, gelaagd.
